Having just learned how to knit socks on double-pointed needles, I was excited to try my hand at Christmas stockings for my family. Needless to say, I was disappointed to find that all of these designs are knitted flat on straight needles. The embellishments are knitted separately and sewn on (or embroidered on,) then the stocking is sewn together. Once I tried it, though, I was very pleased! Even a beginning knitter like my daughter can knit one of these treasures. And with 12 designs, there is a design that everyone in my family really likes and wants me to knit for them.

Now for the cons. First, all of these stockings use Lion Brand yarn, many of which are discontinued. Second, there is no guage listed for any of the designs, so it is hard to figure out how to substitute yarn. Third, all of the stockings use the same pattern, but different weights of yarns and different needle sizes, so the finished products vary a lot in size. The first stocking I knitted was humongous, the next one was small.

Overall, I am glad I bought it and my family is happy with the finished product.

Beautiful photos of the stockings with easy to follow step by step directions for each stocking. Also includes interesting ways to embellish the stockings.

My wife was looking for patterns for knitting xmas stocking. Your book had a few but with few attractive designs.

Read over the materials quite a bit and thought the instructions were easy to understand. Can't wait to try these.
