Nicotene Patches are a life saver - REALLY!!!!,
By L.A. Weller "Strawberry_cats" (Clifton, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NicoDerm CQ STEP 1 - 3 Week Kit - 21 Clear 21 mg Nicotine Patches (Health and Beauty)
I was a horrific smoker for 22 years - I smoked well over a pack and a half a day... I am not proud but with the aid of the patch. I quit! I am now entering my 38th week with out a smoke...not even a drag! I encourage others but I don't preach... nobody likes and ex-smoker :) Just remember that what your doing is hard at the end of step one if you do not feel you can handle going to step two...stay on step one and extra week or two..everyone's different and we all can't follow the schedule on the box. Do what feels right for you! I went from Step one to step two and I couldn't handle it...I was cranky and I cried and... I stepped back up to Step one for an extra week and I was fine! Give it a try and All the best of luck to you.... and if you screw up you screw up ... take a deep breath and try it again :)

Finally!! Smoke Free,
By Dxer (Roanoke, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NicoDerm CQ STEP 1 - 3 Week Kit - 21 Clear 21 mg Nicotine Patches (Health and Beauty)
I have been a smoker for to many years to count...as I was approaching the age of 60, I have been trying so hard to quit the habit. I figured the time was right for me, smoking has become more and more socially unacceptable, the price keeps going up and trying to justify a habit that has been eating up all of my money and time for so many years just seemed so hard to do.After trying cold turkey, then nicotene gum I was still a failure. September 13, 2010, I finally decided to try the patch. My first reaction to putting one on was one of total panic, I was pushing away an old friend that had helped me through all of my life, through hard times and times of celebration, and times of just kicking back and relaxing. I wanted to run out and buy another pack just for a few more puffs and to keep a back up just in case I failed again. But I was determined and fought off the urges and got started on Step 1. The first couple of days were hard, but I found when the triggers came (and I have so many triggers) that they would soon pass and all was well. Now that I am on my 6th day, I have noticed the triggers are happening less and less, the past 3 days I didn't even miss smoking, however waking up this Saturday morning after coming home from a long road trip, I found myself once again wanting to smoke a cigarette...(think that is the reward/and wanting to kick back and relax trigger) But a fresh patch on this morning and I still remain smoke free. So far no noticeable side affects, other than some minor itching when I first put the patch on. It does leave a red mark on my arm, but no big deal, it goes away once the patch is off and I alternate sites like they recommend in the instructions. One other side affect I have noticed is bizarre dreams. Nothing scary, in fact they are kind of cool, and all in living color. I may miss them once I am finished and may have to keep a patch around just for night time adventures :) Anybody who has been or is addicted to cigarettes knows just how hard it is to quit. Part of the habit and perhaps the biggest part of the addiction is mental. So to be truely successful you need to be mentally ready to quit. I was at this point in my life so I know I won't be a failure this time. If you are at this point in your life, then don't be afraid to step off the edge with this first step. It does work. Just keep your eye on the mark, and don't forget to reward yourself with all of the money you are saving by not buying cigs... A quick update... I am beginning my 9th day of being a non smoker, so far I haven't stumbled along this new path, but I will admit it has been hard, but you just need to keep focused and your eye on the prize. One day at a time. The vivid dreams have gone away, guess my body is adjusted to the lowered nicotine doseage, but the patches still itch like crazy when you first put them on, but it goes away after awhile. So far this is working for me, and I was hardcore, so give it a try, you have nothing to lose and lots to gain by quitting.. October 4th 2010 Update... I continue to be successful in my journey into the world of non smokers. Counting my patches left, I have 20 more days to go before I complete 6 weeks of Step 1, and then I get to graduate to Step 2 for 2 weeks. It seems each day gets easier, though the urge to smoke still creeps into my thoughts. I notice when I am around people that smoke now just how strong they smell, I never even noticed it when I was a smoker. Scarey to think that used to be me! The itching is pretty much gone, or not noticeable to me any more. I do still get crazy dreams, but not as much as when I first started on the patch. So far Nicoderm CQ has done the trick for me and I encourage anyone who is considering stopping smoking to give it a try.

12 Days After 40 Years,
This review is from: NicoDerm CQ STEP 1 - 3 Week Kit - 21 Clear 21 mg Nicotine Patches (Health and Beauty)
I had smoked for 40 years and up to 2.5 packs per day.Doctor said I would not live to 65 years old if I didn't quit. (I'm 57 now) I had tried the patch before and had no luck. I had also tried Chantix with no luck. I recently tried again on the 1st day of this month. It did not stop my cravings. I continued to smoke with the patch for 3 days. Being desperate, I tried a patch and a half (I cut a patch in half). To my surprise, the next morning when I woke up, I had no cravings. I continued this for 4 days. I then went back to a single patch.... I'm starting on day 12!!!!........ I feel great!!!!!

I know this is different for everyone, and some cessation methods work for some, and not for others. It really boils down to if it's the right time for you to quit.I've used these patches many times before - about 7 times I believe. I've also tried the Gum, Inhaler and Pills. I failed at every attempt. Made it a day, sometimes 3 days... and then back to it. The smoking and craving for a smoke ruled my life ever so much. There was no way I could avoid it when I was awake. I would plan things around my smoking even. I would put the kids in the car after shopping and have a quick few puffs before I got in. Land after a flight and go smoke before I even got my luggage. It was wild when I think back. After 21 years of smoking 20+ (up to 40 a night when out partying), I am now free from it. The secret I think this time, was I was just ready. My body was ready. My Mind was fed up of smoking. I also decided to not put any pressure on myself and this is a HUGE part of it. I didn't tell anyone I was doing it. The first day I put a patch on, I tried to not smoke, but lit up five - but none of them were finished as they just tasted bad. The second day I lit up 11. I was concerned a little that it was going up as in previous patterns of trying to quit, but kept telling myself not to worry. You can do this. They didn't taste good and I was a little ashamed - but again, no pressure. Third day I lit up seven and took maybe 3 puffs of any of them. I am sure of the fact that I was doing it out of habit now and not out of nicotine need. The fourth day I woke up and stuck my patch on. Easy as pie - didn't smoke all day until I lit one up at the end of the day. No biggie - I had done ever so well. What was a few puffs? Didn't matter really - it was a million times better than smoking 20+ full cigarettes in a day. I was proud of myself. Fifth day I woke up and did the same thing - but didn't smoke at all this day. I found it easy. I wasn't even that busy. I had a few cravings but they were easily overcome. Sixth day was tougher, but I found it was only in the afternoon about 4pm. Not knowing about the patches really being time release, I took off the patch and put a new one on. I didn't have another craving all day. Seventh day - same thing. Swap out the patch at 4pm. I continued to do this, even though it was essentially just psychological and a bit of a waste of cash. But hey it worked for me. I stopped switching out the patch after 10 days. Still going strong now after 25 days. Still get cravings on occasion, and nowhere near an ex smoker in my mind, but there's no pressure. If you slip up - meh... carry on with what was working for you. If you fail on this attempt, then maybe it's just not your time to quit. Don't get down. Don't be upset. Carry on smoking and try again when you feel the time is right. Six weeks

Been smoking for over 7 years and have tried to quit a few times. Only this time I bought these nicotine patches to help me. They won't completely kill the urge to light up, but it does make the cravings a lot more bearable. For those who are ready to quit...this will make it easier. No question. I have not experienced any allergic reactions to wearing them. Although they do itch when you first put them on.Also, I was told by a couple of people not to get the cheaper brands because they don't work/stick as well as NicoDerm does.

This is a strong dosage patch and is irritating to sensitive skin. The clear patches were nice so it's not as noticable as the older patches. The down side is they fall off if they get wet or if you get sweaty.
