Editorial Reviews

Snake Eyes - Set in Atlantic City, an assassination attempt thrusts a detective (Nicolas Cage) into a murder case with 14,000 potential suspects and a deadly conspiracy where nothing is what it appears to be. Face/Off - John Travolta stars as FBI agent Sean Archer doing the unthinkable to stop the elusive terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage). Watch the bullets fly and the action explode as master action director John Woo ( Broken Arrow) detonates the screen in this special collector’s edition DVD. Loaded with high-voltage special features, this two-disc set redefines the action genre like never before! Bringing Out the Dead - From acclaimed director Martin Scorsese (Casino, Taxi Driver) comes one of his most compelling and unforgettable movies. Nicolas Cage stars as Frank Pierce, a paramedic on the brink of madness from too many years of saving and losing lives. One fateful night, Frank meets Mary Burke (Patricia Arquette), the daughter of a man Frank tried to save. Together, Frank and Mary confront the ghosts of the past, and discover that redemption can be found amon the living. Co-starring John Goodman, Ving Rhames, and Tom Sizemore.

4.0 out of 5 stars I wish Martin Scorsese would stay in NYC and just make stories about NYC and New Yorkers, May 9, 2010
This review is from: Nicolas Cage Triple Feature (Face/Off / Snake Eyes / Bringing Out the Dead) (DVD)
I wasn't too excited about seeing Bringing Out the Dead and Snake Eyes since I was only interested in getting a copy of Face/Off. Well, Face/Off turned out to be less interesting after so many years even though I rewatched it several times when it first came out on VHS. Bringing Out the Dead was a pleasant surprise and was an impressive example of Martin Scorsese's skill and talent. Maybe you have to be a true NYer like the director to make a movie like this that actually FEELS like New York. I was watching an episode of CSI:NY and something felt off even though they used NY locations. Bringing Out The Dead is more than location authenticity though. It really captures malaise and the burden of working poor in Manhattan. It's uniquely shot and the random encounters with strangers in their own world are similar to the style of After Hours but this story is much different and even though his character is overworked, Nicolas Cage's face looks remarkable in this movie. Snake Eyes was the best of the three movies in this triple pack. It's perfect storytelling with not too much thrown into the 90 minutes but what is there is controlled and never excessive. It's a really good twisty movie. I recommend getting this triple pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps it should have been just a Double Feature..., August 30, 2009

This review is from: Nicolas Cage Triple Feature (Face/Off / Snake Eyes / Bringing Out the Dead) (DVD)
This was the perfect buy for me becuase I had already seen both "Face Off" and "Snake Eyes", and I was willing to take a chance for yet another Nicolas Cage film that was nicely included in the price.

But maybe I'm more of an action film kinda guy after all, because even though I somehow managed to get all the way through "Cast Away" (the film with Tom Hanks stuck on some island somewhere) I couldn't make it all the way through the third film in this Triple pack, "Bringing Out the Dead". Perhaps too many video games in my youth have shrunken my attention span...

With that in mind, I'd still give this Triple Feature pack 5 out of 5 stars becuase I was able to get 2 great action films starring Nicolas Cage for under $6!
