Personal and powerful,
By A Customer
This review is from: Nicole C. Mullen (Audio CD)
Like most others, I was introduced to Nicole through hearing "Redeemer" on the radio. The first time I heard it, I turned it up about halfway through realizing it was a nice song. The next time, I recognized it right away, cranked it up, and was sobbing by the end of the first stanza as I motored down the highway. It really speaks to me about who Jesus is and what He did for us all. I really like the rest of her CD, but I think my favorites (aside from "Redeemer") are "Granny's Angel," "Black, White, Tan," and "Homemade." Nicole's got a great voice; it's beautiful, rich and soulful, and not overly high-pitched or screechy. For those of you who like to belt out tunes on your way to work, this is a great one. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I haven't really gotten into some of the faster, more raucous songs on her album. That's not to say I won't, but overall I think I prefer her when she's singing slower.

Nicole In Control,
By A Customer
This review is from: Nicole C. Mullen (Audio CD)
I received this CD for Christmas. I have heard "Redeemer" on the radio. And that's why I wanted the CD. As soon as I opened the package I played the whole CD. I was truly amazed. My favorites are "Ready for This" "Butterfly" "Granny's Angel" "Family Tree" "Redeemer" "Freedom" "On My Knees". Once you listen you are hooked. I taped the CD so I can listen while I drive. I can't wait until she performs live in the Washington D.C. area. I only have I complaint, the first song "Ready For This" should have been named "I Believe In Jesus".

Going by what I know,

I must first admit that I have not heard this entire album. I was once walking through Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville, Texas and Nicole C. Mullen was performing a free show there. I just caught the end of it and she was performing "Redeemer." I'd heard the song on the radio and was glad to be able to put a face to the name. But I was also blown away by her performance. The song had already been able to stir up emotions in me and seeing her live was extremely impressive. The only other song I've heard is "Black, White, Tan," which to me is just as beautiful a song, but still slightly lacks in its ability to create emotion. It boggles my mind how I read some reviews which suggest that Nicole C. Mullen should cut back or completely avoid any mention of race. That is exactly why there is still a problem with racism today, because people want to avoid it. What's the saying again? That the most segregated time in America is 11 AM on a Sunday morning. If she can't talk about such a tragesty on her own CD, then who can and where can he or she do it? People who want to avoid it need to open their eyes and realize that it needs to be dealt with. I support anyone who is trying to do that.
