Wonderful read couldn't put it down,
By Danielle (Fl - United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nicole of Prie Mer: Book One of the Latter Annals of Lystra (Paperback)
This book was one of the best books I have read in a while. Completely captivating from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down (literally!). I finished in one day. If you are a fan of the original Chantaine's Guardian series this book is an absolute MUST have! The earlier books are not necessary to understand this one, but if you have read them this book takes you right back. You'll feel as if you never left Westford. I can't wait for her second in this new series to be released this coming October. If you are a long time fan check out the author Robin Hardy's site at robinhardy.com to see new information.

Roman and Deirdre have been replaced,
By Christy Fisher (Tulsa, OK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nicole of Prie Mer: Book One of the Latter Annals of Lystra (Paperback)
I was so thrilled to see the continuation of the Lystra series. Like some of the other reviews, I miss hearing about Roman and Deirdre, but I am grateful for the glimpses that Robin offers.
Nicole is a wonderful character, I liked her right away. I never thought anyone could replace Roman, but I have got to say that Ares is so hot. Parents should take caution and read this book before allowing teenagers to read. The bedroom scenes are a bit steamier than I was used to with Christian books. I agree with Robin's views on it, and they aren't explicitly detailed. Your mind plays a lot into it. Robin has proved that the series can get better with age.

I waited for an addition to the Annals of Lystra for at least a year after finishing the first series. I can't tell you how excited I was to read this book. The characters are so real and so much fun to read! If you've read the first Annals, you'll find some similarities between Roman, Deirdre, and their descendants, which just makes the book that much more enjoyable. It's a delightful read, and I highly recommend it!

Nicole of Prie Mer,
By Rebekah Martin (MI,USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nicole of Prie Mer: Book One of the Latter Annals of Lystra (Paperback)
When Nicole, daughter of a humble tailor, is given the opportunity to travel to the palace at Westford, she sets out with her fathers instructions: to marry a man of wealth and power.
At Westford, Nicole meets Ares, the Commander of the Lystran army, who does not care about her lack of upbringing, wealth, or title. She in turn is not repulsed by the scar on his face that had caused other women to reject him. The two are quickly married and Nicole begins to adjust to her new life. In a palace where people are not always what they seem, Ares and Nicole strive to continue to live a godly life despite the palace intrigue that surrounds them. Unlike Chataine's Guardian, Nicole of Prie Mer is written for young adults and up only. There is some sexual content that makes it unsuitable for children and younger teens.

The Story of Lystra continues--,
By
This review is from: Nicole of Prie Mer: Book One of the Latter Annals of Lystra (Paperback)
When seventeen-year-old Nicole of Prie Mer set out to visit the Chataine Renee, the charge from her poor but honorable father to marry well was a burden she could hardly manage. The intricacies of palace life along with her own trusting naivete made matters that much worse. Yet somehow, Nicole's sweet and honest nature and good heart see her through.
Hardy makes her long-awaited return to the award-winning Lystra story vibrant, refreshing and surprisingly new. She once again relates the struggles of good and evil with the affection, humor and humanness that characterize the greatest stories of our time. No previous experience with the Annals of Lystra are necessary; Nicole of Prie Mer stands alone in its own right, but readers familiar with Hardy's previous works will be delighted with the first book in the Latter Annals of Lystra.

New Adventures,
This review is from: Nicole of Prie Mer: Book One of the Latter Annals of Lystra (Paperback)
Robin Hardy takes her readers back to Lystra for more medieval adventures in the first of another series. One hundred years have passed since Roman and Deirdre ruled, but the royal court is still full of adventure and intrigue. And, with Ares and Nicole, there is love, heartache and romance in abundance.
I always love Robin's heroes, and Ares is certainly no exception. Scarred inside and out, he is a strong, fierce, gentle warrior-protector and perfect romantic hero.

This is a wonderful addition to the Lystra series the only thing that I was sorry about was the fact that you don't really know what happens with the Roman, Deidre and Ariel. It does make this part of the series more stand alone though, and also gives us another view of the same place later on. To anyone who enjoyed the first you will enjoy this one, even though it is different from the others.

I was so thrilled to find Robin had continued on with the stories of Lystra. I loved Chataine's Guardian and wasn't disappointed with Nicole of Prie Mer. Throughout the story, I found my emotions tossed around, wanting good things to happen for Nicole. Her innocence, but wisdom in how she reacted to things she couldn't control was commendable. Everything was so vivid and somewhat fast paced. I couldn't put it down, though I did so the story would last longer. :) Can't wait for the next installment. (Please have it in Kindle format!)

I was disappointed with the Latter Annals of Lystra. They had many unnecessary references to sex which actually detracted from the story. Instead of focusing on God and His power and working in lives (as in Robin's previous books with Roman & Deirdre)these Annals focused on the physical relationship of the 2 main characters. I would not recommend these books to anyone. I think Robin can write great stories without resorting to the use of sex to grab the reader's attention.

I have been a big fan of Robin Hardy books for over a decade and I was so excited to see she had continued the Lystra series. I was so let down after reading this "Christian" book. Please be warned this is not appropriate for those who want to keep sexually pure thoughts. Robin has decided to write a book that depicts a wonderful marriage bed. She explains in her web site her mission to balance what the world is selling as sexually appealing. But this book needs a heavy warning on it as the Bible says " think on these things...". It is very hard to have a pure thought life after reading about what others are doing in thier bedrooms.
