Book Description

A young woman struggles to reunite with her estranged father. The only problem? She has to get through the zombie apocalypse to do it.

A Colonel in the U.S. Army, Steven Bennett represents the last best hope for his daughter, Nicole, but they don't speak to each other much, and when they do, feelings get hurt. With the zombie virus unleashed, her father called from his secure military compound buried deep in a mountain in Colorado and urged her to come to him. Now Nicole Bennett must try to remember some of the things her father taught her if she is to escape the zombie plague.

Though not her first choice, along the way she gathers a rag-tag group of survivors and together they battle across the Deadlands, formally known as the United States of America.

On the road, you will meet:

Nicole Bennett: Daughter of Colonel Steven Bennett, estranged. She set out to be a veterinarian, but her plans were put on hold by the Zombie Apocalypse. She now seeks the refuge and safety that she hopes to find with her father in Colorado.

Sam Jennings: A boy in his late teens. His reaction to the Zombie Apocalypse was not a good one. He struggles with the reality of his surroundings and copes the best he can. Living in the Fair Valley Home Improvement Supercenter, his life will change again when Nicole Bennett blows through town.

Walter Jeffferies: A "Dude" who believes in taking it easy. He likes to drive a bus because buses are for people and people go on trips. He is the happiest oddball to ever survive a Zombie Apocalypse. He's a pacifist who happens to be a pretty good shot.

Paul Baxter: An engineer who studies how things work. With his daughter, Jordan, they hold up in Liberty Bell Stadium, home of the Wranglers. They have it pretty good and aren't that happy to see Nicole...at least not at first.

Jordan Baxter: Young daughter of Paul Baxter. A handful for her father, and the only thing that scares him more than the Zombies. She had her fifteen minutes of fame before the Zombies took center stage. Its okay, though, she's about to meet her biggest fan.

Billy Watkins: He prefers Billy, but nobody ever called him that. It was always "William" to his parents, who didn't really want him around. His friends didn't call him Billy either, cause he never really had any. When the Apocalypse hit, Billy lost alot, but he gained much more. He is Jordan Baxter's biggest fan and will prove his worth.

Rubetta Pride: A prime specimen of the "greatest generation". She is a farmer's wife and knows what hard work is. Even in her advanced age she can still shoot a shotgun and drive a harvester and uses both to dispatch the Zombie "interlopers" that stray across her land. She made brownies.

Dermot Mullney: "Derm the Worm". He is disturbed creeper who wanders the Deadlands. He is not a good man.

Steven Bennett: He has stood on the wall between us and all enemies foreign and domestic. It cost him the love of his wife and his daughter. When the Zombie Apocalypse hits, Col Bennett hopes to get at least one of them back. He fights the good fight on the other side of the Deadlands.

About the Author

I'm the Dude, so that's what you call me--Oh wait, that's just the voice in my head. Really, though, I, like the Dude, don't want a real job. I have one now and well... The real job feeds the body and lets me live indoors. The writing feeds the soul and lets me live in my head. Thanks for stopping by. I am excited to get my writing out there, and interact with readers who maybe, just maybe, find some enjoyment in it. What a long strange trip...it will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining as H.E.L.L. April 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of zombies or funeral home rejects as one of the characters in this book calls them. I know...I know zombies are all the craze right now. I do like "Walking Dead"...what I've seen of it and I liked "Zombieland" and the first "Resident Evil" movie...yeah way back in 2002. I also enjoyed the Star Wars zombie novels "Death Troopers" and "Red Harvest." But my biggest issue with zombie stories is that the focus is usually more about zombies than it is about characters and zombies as interesting as they are don't make good characters. Too many zombie attacks are like too many explosions or car chases...it dulls the senses and quite frankly turns me off. But you don't have to worry about any of that with this book. You are in good hands with author Phil McClimon. His story puts characters first. Don't worry there are still plenty of zombie attacks to keep you more blood thirsty readers entertained. Phil's structure and pacing are flawless. His action scenes are as detailed as his characters. He really knows his craft. Reading this book is like a good roller-coaster. It's filled with ups and downs, twists and turns. I don't want to give too much of the story away so I'll just say that it's like The Stand but with Zombies! Phil has a real knack for fiction and I look forward to reading anything else he publishes.

Awesome read. Our heroine Nicole is trying to get to Colorado to her dad a general. He taught her how to be a survivor. On the way she picks up survivors who make the journey with her. I loved the battle to get there with her friends. Heartwarming read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Character Driven...Zombie Infested! May 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a fan of zombie novels. Always have been. Probably always will be. I have read some zombie novels that are fantastic, and some that are below horrible. With that said I place Philip McClimon's novel up there with some of the best I have read.

For me what makes a good zombie apocalypse yarn is the characters, not the zombies. Zombies are a given, but it's the characters in the novel need to carry the story. In NICOLE'S ODYSSEY, the characters certainly do drive the story forward. The way the author presents his characters soon has you drawn into their plight. You find yourself caring for them, and wondering what will happen next when you turn the page. Yes, it's a page turner!

What I liked: deep characters, driven dialog, great descriptions, the zombies.

I think there will be more great stories coming from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars H.E.L.L. Yes! May 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book, without a doubt, is on my A list. I really love the zombie genre and have read from the really great authors to one's who should go back to their day jobs. McClimon brings you in close to his main character, Nicole. Whether you like her thinking processes or not she still is a hero we all need. There is a lot of growing up and facing who she is as every character in this book does. I laughed at some points in the book that were so funny! Hey, even in an apocalypse there is humor. My eyes misted over at others, with Ruby and Nicole's ultimate meeting with her Dad. No spoilers here!
Not too many typos, but it could have used a second read through before publishing. I don't like getting caught up on misused or misspelled words.
I certainly hope Philip McClimon gives us more of his wonderful talent! I can't wait for his next book! Hopefully, book two of Nicole's journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! May 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
H.E.L.L. Nicole's Odyssey is a great adventure that is well worth the price of admission. Great zombie adventure story, that doesn't rely on mindless zombie attacks. You genuinely care about the characters and whether or not they complete their journey, and isn't that what we really want out of any good story? I was hooked through the entire story, the character interactions seemed natural and the zombie attacks... uh, yes, more please; I will never look at a big box hardware store without contemplating my exit strategy. My only complaint, let's make this clear, ONLY COMPLAINT...I WANT MORE!!! This story and this world are so fantastic, I just want more. I think that when this world is really explored, it could be on the level of Stephen King's - The Stand. I hear through the grapevine that author Philip McClimon has more stories in the pipeline, so keep an eye out for his stuff on his Goodreads account and Facebook.

5.0 out of 5 stars a honest review from the bookqueen March 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't usually leave a review unless the book was awesome or a Stephen king book which I am a fan propably number one, because I love all his books old Stephen new ones. Anyway I am truly a zombie fan as well and I have read lots of zombie books which I have paid my money for. I am got. I brought this and paid 3.99. I purchased the sample first and 10 to 20 pages in, I knew I wanted to buy this. I think it was the strong female lead in Nicole or backward Sam. But the character development was great. I laughed at Walt and cried so much toward the end was, to say the least a big accomplishment toward the end.A zombie book with action real emotion and real zombies. Mrs ruby and her actions were spot on. The book, tied the cause of the zombie apocalypse.
.. overall without to much spoiler alert the ending was a nice touch even the suspended hand hold at the end with a zombie... its a nice way of saying goodbye. This has all the signs of a good walking dead,( which I love the show) feel.and Mr.Climon gives you a free prequel to the advents in the series. Going to read the other two books now. Will pay and will enjoy my free book as well. I took a gamble and I'm glad I did. Kind of like At the end of all things zombie book not a lot of reviews nor books but a real gem like this one. There's a few other ones I could name but this post is for h.e.l.l and it was one h.e.l.l of a ride. I stay up until 4 am reading and I am tired. Its 6.49 I'm gonna catch some zzz 's then get on the prowl to feel my kindle with more horror. More zombies or just great books.
