It will work if you do it right,

This review is from: Nicorette Gum Starter Kit, Mint, 2 mg, 110 Count Box (Health and Beauty)
Are you tired of throwing away big money day after day for what basically amounts to a slow, painful death? Sick of coughing up phlegm when you wake up each morning? Maybe you're just tired of smelling like a casino? I smoked for over 10 years but got off the death sticks with the help of Nicorette. I tried the inhaler and hated it, felt like I was breathing hot pepper into the back of my throat. In all fairness I really didn't give it a chance as I lost it the day after I bought it after only a couple uses. Most people I know haven't been able to quit using the patches alone but your results may vary. Personally, the gum satisfies the urge to keep my mouth busy. If you're a nailbiter or you chew on pen caps, etc... you probably have the same oral fetish and the gum is your best bet. This will not take care of that strange craving your lungs get for nicotine (only smokers will understand this) but it will take care of the cravings your body gets as long as you do it right. First, quit the stupid rationalizations and realize that you ARE an addict. You can tell yourself that you can quit any day you want but we both know it's a line of B.S. If that were true, you would've have quit long ago. Nicotine is as addictive as heroin, just a lot more subtle. The more you realize that you are in a battle against an expensive drug, the more determined you will be to keep going. Second, understand that you will have to chew a lot of gum before you can quit successfully. The first time I tried to quit I got back on the smokes because I stopped the gum too early. Start with one box just to find out if this will get you off the smokes. Once you do quit, and you find Nicorette to be an acceptable substitute, then make sure you have plenty of boxes so you don't run out and immediately bum a smoke off of someone. Chewing eight pieces a day, you only have a couple weeks worth in this starter kit. Get the larger boxes of refills to save money. Third, this is important, you MUST chew at least eight pieces a day! There's a reason the box is explicit about this. Don't wait until you start craving a cigarette, keep the gum in your mouth beforehand so you don't get the cravings at all. If you do this, you'll be surprised at how easy it is to quit. Fourth, this is not regular chewing gum. The common complaint is it upsets the stomach. You don't chew it constantly like regular gum, instead you only chew it until you start to get a peppery taste in your mouth (the nicotine) then park the gum between your cheek and gums until it goes away. Chew a little more, park it, etc... until the nicotine is gone. You probably will get an upset stomach at first as your mouth is not used to the taste and is generating more saliva. This goes away quickly though. Finally, if you are a habitual smoker (i.e. first thing in the morning, while driving, right after a meal, etc...) just get used to having the Nicorette around. Instead of reaching for a cigarette first thing in the morning, chew a piece of gum first thing, and so on. All of the above are in the instructions but the steps bear repeating because they are all important. Even if you do start smoking again, don't throw away the progress you made. Just admit it was a mistake, throw away the rest of the pack and get back on the gum. Quitting smoking is not impossible, people do it every day so there's no reason you can't quit too. Just set a date and do it. Best wishes.

I attended St. Helena Hospital's smoking cessation program in May. They, along with the Mayo Clinic, support "nicotine replacement therapy" 100%. 14 people from around the U.S. attended this program and not one of us has returned to cigarettes as a result of NRT. Yes, I chew the gum all the time but I no longer am being poisoned by the hundreds of poisonous substances in cigarettes. Thank heavens for Nicorette.

I was a bit skeptical when trying this product, however upon actually using it for a couple weeks now, I see that it actually works.
However, it doesn't make quitting smoke a breeze, but it certainly helps overcome cravings. It's just important to read the instructions of how frequently and one should chew the gum as well as HOW one chews it, because I originally made the mistake of chewing it like regular gum and nearly made myself ill. All in all, quitting smoking is tough and to my surprise Nicorette actually makes it seem possible.

If you are serious about quitting smoking then don't hesitate to pick this up. It's one of the better if not the best flavor in the bunch. It helped me quit smoking, and it's not hard to quit the gum if you want as well =).

I could not have stopped smoking without the help of Nicorette gum. At first it tastes rather strange, but once I got used to it, it helped tremendously with cigarette cravings.

one of the best ways to quit smoking. The only problem with it that its hard to get the gum out of it's sealed pack. I believe it should be packed in a much better way.

I used these the first time I quit smoking in combination with the nicorette inhaler. They worked great. I actually like the taste of the gum, reminds me of chicklits. The hardest part is remembering not to chew it like regular gum. If it wasn't for my wife passing away unexpectedly, I would not have started smoking again.
The first thing is to work on the triggers before you start to quit. What I mean by that, change up the times you have a smoke, make your self go outside to smoke. Little things like that can make or break the attempt to quit. I would actually find myself looking forward to the gum on the ride home at night. No after taste to the gum that I can tell, just like regular gum. This can definalty get you past a craving. Getting over the nicotine is pretty fast, getting past all the psycological triggers, that takes the longest.

FALSE ADVERTISING,
I consider this false advertising. This product was not Nicorette and is inferior to nicorette. It was Rite Aid. Will definitely be hesitant to order on Amazon where there is another seller.

I have both the Ice Mint and the Original Flavor. While the Ice Mint tastes really good, the extreme mintiness can make it hard to tell when the peppery flavor has ended. The original flavor tastes like your basic bubblegum, and so it's really easy to know when to stop chewing. This helped me a lot. When I chewed the Ice Mint, I kept forgetting and chewing it like normal gum-- that was causing excess salivation and swallowing. In layman's terms, chewing too much makes your throat burn as you swallow nicotine. Also, follow the instructions exactly and use Nicorette on a schedule. If you reward your cravings with the gum, you run the risk of getting addicted to the gum. The only downside to the original flavor is the terrible packaging! It's so hard to get a piece out of the foil wrapping, which is NOT what you want to happen when you're already irritable from the stress of quitting.
I do highly recommend getting some sort of NRT if you have decided to quit smoking. Let me tell you, even with nicotine in my body, (from the gum), it was still extremely difficult to quit. We're talking crazy mood swings, tears, irrational demands, exhaustion, etc. But I did it! Glad I had this tool in my arsenal. Hang in there-- if you're thinking about quitting, I just want to say that as much as I loved cigarettes, (and oh, did I), being an ex-smoker is 1,000 times better.
