Nicotine rocks!!!!, August 28, 2000
This review is from: Nicotine & Gravy (Audio CD)
This CD rocks!!! At first, I was a bit dissapointed at Nicotine & Gravy video, but after viewing it while I was inspired, I loved it. About the tracks, Nicotine & Gravy is one of the best from Midnite Vultures. It has that special style that drives you into the song. Midnite Vultures is one of the best songs I have ever heard (it is a shame that it wasnt included in the album that has the same name). Zatyricon is a good track, but the other too are much better. So, what are you waiting to buy this CD!!! If you think you are a Beck fan, buy it now, it is a must in everyones collection.

For "completists" only., December 23, 2007
This review is from: Nicotine & Gravy (Audio CD)
This review is for the two B-Sides and the video of 'Nicotine and Gravy' only.
Another reviewer's comment that the song 'Midnite Vultures' should have been included on the album of the same name is, as is everything written here, a matter of opinion. In my opinion Beck was right to leave it off the album - it would have been a real low point and out of step with the rest of that release. It plods, is only an average Beck song and it is in no way similar or as good as 'Nicotine and Gravy', 'Pressure Zone' or the equally slow 'Beautiful Way'.
The track Zatyricon is the worst thing I have heard Beck put his name to.
Which leaves the video - a cut and paste, animation affair that actually detracts from the great track it accompanies.

2 great tracks., June 9, 2001
This review is from: Nicotine & Gravy (Audio CD)
i am a beck completist. this means i will buy any beck i can afford and dont already have. now this a really really good single. the first two tracks are great, we all know "niccotine" from "midnite vultures". this song has heavy middle eastern influences and has great lyrics with a long unwinding jam at the end, and a funk sax solo in live versions. "midnite vultures" is a great tune that is diffucult to describe. its piano-driven and a little bit loungy, its great to chill out, its about 7 minutes long and has those crazy lyrics that dont make any sense, except from beck. his voice sounds very deep on this recording. this song should have been on the album with the same name. now here is where the trouble comes in. "zatyricon", well, its experimental, but it doesn't do anything for me. its basically a phone call from a guy to a plastic surgeon. the guy wants to get a tail or something. the video for "niccotine" is a pretty dope flash animation. so i would get this for "midntie vultures" alone, but dont except to love "zatyricon"
