Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 4-6-This straightforward, heavily illustrated book offers an organized and current look at this vital African nation. The clear sections and efficient captions bring the facts into focus for report writers as well as those with a general interest. The ancient empires and current times are discussed, but the focus is on modern Nigeria and how it has been shaped by its history. The section on Nigerian-U.S. relations includes examples of the cultural exchanges between the two countries. Color photographs clearly illustrate the subjects and show both rural and city life. There is a blank reproducible outline map as well as a detailed map showing the states, cities, and important geographical sites. The glossary includes Nigerian and English words. The "Nigeria at a Glance" page, the overview, and the explanation of the origins of the flag will help students who need just a few facts. A welcome addition to collections needing information on this country or wanting to update older materials.
