Grade 4-8?Colorful, well-structured overviews that deliver basic information on geography and history and identify major ethnic groups. Contemporary national problems are mentioned, e.g., tribal conflict in Nigeria and poverty in Mexico. However, the strength of these titles lies in their descriptions of the cultures: unique customs and celebrations, education, distinctive foods, sports and recreational activities, music, dance, and visual arts. Each book opens with an account of a legendary figure: Sarki the Snake in Nigeria and Emiliano Zapata in Mexico. The conversational tone and highly readable texts invite readers to learn more. Highlighted boxes scattered throughout feature interesting information on star athletes, literary figures, proverbs, and government. Captioned, full-color photographs and sections of country facts enhance the presentations.
