4.0 out of 5 stars Right rate:3 stars1/2; instead 4 stars skipping 2 popsongs.., December 10, 2002
By
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
Well actually 4 stars is a bit superior than the right rate, as for the presence of a couple of pop songs, such as "As long as you want me here" and "Nothing to lose", (even if this one is arranged in a remarkable way, by means of an amazing violin and a pretty moog-solo as well!!) which can be skipped; these songs being not useful in comparison to almost the whole usual UK's prog stuff!!
Instead, talking about the ballad "Rendez Vous 6.02", it's a very sensible song, which keeps on growing in a very aggressive manner, by means of a splendid moog-solo in the final part and an unforgettable music crescendo too!!The track "Alaska", following after the already mentioned "Nothing to lose", is characterized by the memorable performance of Eddie Jobson at the keyboards (such a pity you don't find here the incredible solo of "Carrying no cross", the best track of the album "Danger Money");while the fantastic track "Presto Vivace", where these three valuable musicians perform a magical - short and stormy too- instrumental, is the right intro for another jewel,"In the dead of night",an excellent symphony taken from their debut album. Afterwards you can listen to a memorable violin-solo, in the funny track "Caesar Palace Blues"(you have already appreciated a great electric -experimental- violin, in the track "Time to Kill"), which is an example of Jobson's grandeur... well at last I prefer the previous album "DANGER MONEY", but also this live is quite essential (expecially the fantastic performance by Terry Bozzio, an amazing drummer, the magic interplay with the keyboards and the memorable playing of Wetton on bass/voice too!!)

Recommended, but first start with "Danger Money"

3.0 out of 5 stars Look For Concert Classics Instead, August 15, 2001

JOHN SPOKUS (BALTIMORE, MARYLAND United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
To me, UK became a lot less interesting once Alan Holdsworth and Bill Bruford exited. I was not ever a big fan of the Danger Money LP. It seemed like John Wetton was just leading the band down a sappy commercial road, which is especially apparent on the newer tracks on Night After Night, that he would further pursue with Asia. And musically they were becoming little more than a minor league ELP with the absense of a guitarist.I don't need to hear guitar with every band I listen to,but in this case it's tough not to miss Holdsworth (one of the best) when he has played with a better line-up of the band. Jobson does a commendable job covering some former guitar lines on keys, but really they should have gotten another guitarist especially for live shows.Bozzio is a great drummer too; I just prefer Bruford's style. He and Wetton are in my opinion the greatest rhythm section ever, going back to their association in King Crimson. If you really want to hear UK at their best live, seek out the out of print (pulled because Jobson didn't approve the release)Concert Classics release(I've got It !), which is far superior and features Bruford and Holdsworth and does contain material that made it to Danger Money(with their prescence it could have been almost as great as the debut LP,as this recording proves) as well as the greats from the debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars So how does Amazon's react? Can they check the CD's content?, June 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
As far as I can see, the most recent reviews say the content of the sealed disks are not what is expected. So I will buy this CD when Amazon will respond to this review and assure myself that they've done some checking.
If it's too difficult for them they can send me the CD for free, and, as I own the studio vinyls, I will be able to tell them if it's UK performing or not.
I put five stars without having heard this CD because I know the band is fantastic prog rock, and to be top on the list to warn other potential buyers of potential problems that three review below tell us about (misprinted CDs).
I understand anyway that this is certainly not Amazon's fault.
