4.0 out of 5 stars Right rate:3 stars1/2; instead 4 stars skipping 2 popsongs..
Well actually 4 stars is a bit superior than the right rate, as for the presence of a couple of pop songs, such as "As long as you want me here" and "Nothing to lose", (even if this one is arranged in a remarkable way, by means of an amazing violin and a pretty moog-solo as well!!) which can be skipped; these songs being not useful in comparison to almost the whole usual...

3.0 out of 5 stars Look For Concert Classics Instead
To me, UK became a lot less interesting once Alan Holdsworth and Bill Bruford exited. I was not ever a big fan of the Danger Money LP. It seemed like John Wetton was just leading the band down a sappy commercial road, which is especially apparent on the newer tracks on Night After Night, that he would further pursue with Asia. And musically they were becoming little more...

Well actually 4 stars is a bit superior than the right rate, as for the presence of a couple of pop songs, such as "As long as you want me here" and "Nothing to lose", (even if this one is arranged in a remarkable way, by means of an amazing violin and a pretty moog-solo as well!!) which can be skipped; these songs being not useful in comparison to almost the whole usual UK's prog stuff!!
Instead, talking about the ballad "Rendez Vous 6.02", it's a very sensible song, which keeps on growing in a very aggressive manner, by means of a splendid moog-solo in the final part and an unforgettable music crescendo too!!The track "Alaska", following after the already mentioned "Nothing to lose", is characterized by the memorable performance of Eddie Jobson at the keyboards (such a pity you don't find here the incredible solo of "Carrying no cross", the best track of the album "Danger Money");while the fantastic track "Presto Vivace", where these three valuable musicians perform a magical - short and stormy too- instrumental, is the right intro for another jewel,"In the dead of night",an excellent symphony taken from their debut album. Afterwards you can listen to a memorable violin-solo, in the funny track "Caesar Palace Blues"(you have already appreciated a great electric -experimental- violin, in the track "Time to Kill"), which is an example of Jobson's grandeur... well at last I prefer the previous album "DANGER MONEY", but also this live is quite essential (expecially the fantastic performance by Terry Bozzio, an amazing drummer, the magic interplay with the keyboards and the memorable playing of Wetton on bass/voice too!!)

Recommended, but first start with "Danger Money"

To me, UK became a lot less interesting once Alan Holdsworth and Bill Bruford exited. I was not ever a big fan of the Danger Money LP. It seemed like John Wetton was just leading the band down a sappy commercial road, which is especially apparent on the newer tracks on Night After Night, that he would further pursue with Asia. And musically they were becoming little more than a minor league ELP with the absense of a guitarist.I don't need to hear guitar with every band I listen to,but in this case it's tough not to miss Holdsworth (one of the best) when he has played with a better line-up of the band. Jobson does a commendable job covering some former guitar lines on keys, but really they should have gotten another guitarist especially for live shows.Bozzio is a great drummer too; I just prefer Bruford's style. He and Wetton are in my opinion the greatest rhythm section ever, going back to their association in King Crimson. If you really want to hear UK at their best live, seek out the out of print (pulled because Jobson didn't approve the release)Concert Classics release(I've got It !), which is far superior and features Bruford and Holdsworth and does contain material that made it to Danger Money(with their prescence it could have been almost as great as the debut LP,as this recording proves) as well as the greats from the debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars So how does Amazon's react? Can they check the CD's content?, June 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
As far as I can see, the most recent reviews say the content of the sealed disks are not what is expected. So I will buy this CD when Amazon will respond to this review and assure myself that they've done some checking.
If it's too difficult for them they can send me the CD for free, and, as I own the studio vinyls, I will be able to tell them if it's UK performing or not.
I put five stars without having heard this CD because I know the band is fantastic prog rock, and to be top on the list to warn other potential buyers of potential problems that three review below tell us about (misprinted CDs).
I understand anyway that this is certainly not Amazon's fault.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Brian Eno Apollo disk in the UK Night After Night case., September 24, 2005
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
Just got my Cd in today and when I unwrap and open it, there's Brian Eno's Apollo inside.

Does anyone have information about EF records? I know here in the US they are distributed by Caroline but I think EG or Caroline should be issuing replacements.

Other than the boring Eno, the UK Night After Night rates 5 stars.

This album is a perfect compliment to the preceeding two studio albums. If you have heard any live recordings with Alan Holdsworth and Bill Bruford, you have to admit this trio is better and tighter (with incredible drumming from Bozzio).

The two songs not included on the studio albums ( As Long As You Want Me Here & Night After Night) are both first-rate. UK seemed to be moving toward a more pop direction (read: Asia) and that would have been great too.

I would have enjoyed hearing an entire show (2 cd's worth), But hearing Wetton speak japaneese is worth the money alone.

Buy this CD !

1.0 out of 5 stars Misprinted CD; wrong album, February 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
I received this CD from a couple of different sources including Amazon.com. In both cases, only when I played the CD did I know it was the wrong album ("Voices" by Roger Eno). Both the cover and CD are printed as "UK Night After Night".

5.0 out of 5 stars The finest "LIVE" recording of the early 80's!! Killer, August 6, 2002
By
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
I certainly wish Wetton/Bozzio/Jobson would go back & find the
original tapes they recorded that nite in Japan & fill an ENTIRE
cd w/the contents, as I always thought that "Night After Night"
was the finest "live" recording of the early 1980's! I must disagree w/the reviewers that think the only GOOD UK cd is the 1st w/Holdsworth & Bruford! I also wholeheartedly disagree that
the songwriting went downhill after the 1st. To me, UK is a perfect form for a 3 peice "supergroup"! Many people may only know of Eddie Jobson from his UK days or tv writing, but Jobson
did a sucessful stint as Frank Zappa's keyboardist and played for
Jethro Tull as well as others.

I love the 1st UK album, but also think that "Danger Money" &
especially "Night After Night" are killer albums! Sure Holdsworth
IS a great guitarist(bet you can't begin to count how many albums
Alan's been on!??)& Bruford's best playing was w/early Yes & more
importantly, his King Crimson days!(I don't care for EVERY solo
cd Bill's done!) But just because those guys left to persue other
musical career's(& I'm so glad they did, KC anyone?) I feel John
Wetton's voice & bass playing are best represented by UK(and KC)
and think him, Bozzio(who is a genius)& Jobson were the true UK!

It's beyond me why people think UK became some "Pop" outfit w/o
Holdsworth & Bruford. When 3 guy's can carry off and make a trio
sound every bit as good as a quintet, I think it's marvelous. To
hear John's beautiful voice singing the beautiful lyrics of, "As
Long As You Want Me Here" "Night After Night" "Nothing To Lose"
"Rendevous 6:02" & "Caesar's Palace Blues" is joyess! Terry Bozzio can play ANYTHING but knows when to play & how much to play which is so important. Terry really added to UK. Jobson's
soaring keyboards & Violin(I think Fripp should have used Eddie
in KC even tho I love David Cross)are simply tremendous! I find
the theory that Wetton & UK became like Asia(I agree Asia was a
one song band that continued on & on)just riding the crest of what had been done on the 1st UK album foolish to say the least.

UK was an incredible trio & quintet. I just happen to prefer the
trio. So if you've never heard UK this was their finest hour, go
buy this disc, you'll never hear anything quite as beautiful or
as powerful!! STEVEN MUNARI

1.0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE REMASTERING!, November 4, 2009

Stay away from Edduie Jobson's alleged "remasters" of the three UK albums, "UK," "Danger Money" and "Night After Night." All three sound horrible! They are muddy with all the high frequencies rolled off. Save your money and look for the Editions EG versions. They sound MUCH better.

1.0 out of 5 stars CD being sold is Eno NOT UK, May 31, 2006
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
Heed the warnings here (like I didn't) that the CD comes in the correct case and is also labeled as UK but actually contains Eno music. I love Eno but I wanted to hear UK. Do not buy this CD until this problem is corrected

5.0 out of 5 stars Best UK release., October 17, 2002
This review is from: Night After Night (Audio CD)
Despite being lumbered with one of the worst names in rock history (apart from Bankstatement) UK were a force to be reckoned with (on the progressive circuit anyway). On this live album (in Japan, where else??) they are reduced to a trio. Ex-King Crimson vocalist Wetton contributes bass guitar and his distinctive foghorn tenor, ex-Frank Zappa whizzkid Terry Bozzio on drums and keyboard/violin prodigy and whizzkid, Eddie Jobson doing everything else. UK sounded like an English/US cross-bred progressive rock band, i.e. conventional songwriting structures, musical virtuosity, stack harmonies, and songs about (gulp) love. Both UKs studio albums are OK. Just. But live, these same songs became unstoppable juggernauts. Showstoppers In The Dead of Night and Caesars Palace Blues are high and mighty; far superior to the studio versions, with Wetton signing the roof off and Jobson making a big, fat cathedral of noise with his keyboards and violin. Newcomers to UK should get this and avoid the studio albums, which sound like farting mice in comparison.
