This review is from: Night Angel: The Complete Trilogy (Night Angel Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
There is something about Durzo Blint that is immensely appealing. Other characters came and went. The main character, Kylar Stern, alternated between cold-blooded killer, immature teen, and weepy pacifist. Yet Durzo was always Durzo, a cold-blood assassin (excuse me, *wetboy*) that was better than anyone in the art of killing. That he has a secret past is no surprise, but when the surprise is revealed in book two, it feels both insane and incredibly amusing.
The first book in the series starts off dark. There's child molestation, murder, and an overall feeling of despair and surrender to everything evil inside men's hearts. While some might not be prepared for how far the author goes, the setting is necessary for Kylar's development, as well at he redemptive themes that become far more prevalent in books two and three. Despite Kylar's random mood swings, he was an overall enjoyable main character. Like Durzo, he is a killer at the top of his game. The special powers he inherits halfway through the first book are both over the top and yet consistently controlled. It may feel like the author is cheating, but at the same time, I know he's not. Don't read The Night Angel Trilogy expecting anything mundane. Mr. Weeks wants to kill gods, destroy cities, and have his characters play with artifacts older than entire civilizations. It gets a little overwhelming having ten different world-destroying creatures, weapons, and artifacts all being swapped, stolen, and revealed, but by the third book things calm down and start making sense. Speaking of making sense, Mr. Weeks is not the best at introducing characters you don't know. There are plenty of times I'd be reading, start a new chapter, and then wonder if I had skipped a part somewhere along the line. Random people in random locations get thrown out often. Have faith in the author, though; they'll come around in time, and make perfect sense. Mr. Weeks might not be subtle, but he's effective at not messing around. Would I read more by Mr. Weeks? Most certainly. Other than a few odds and ends, this was a series after my own heart. And all because of Durzo. He's the star of the show whenever he makes his entrance, and by the end, you might find yourself wishing for another book dedicated solely to him.

I have re-read this book trilogy three times. My friend picked it up one day randomly because he liked the cover and id been harassing him about not reading ever. (He literally hadnt read a book for enjoyment in 5 years) After he read the trilogy in the matter of days, I picked it up and did the same. You never once want to put this book down. This is one of my first recommendations always when someone asks me. The characters are pretty well developed and the description is amazing. The use of "magic" is well thought out and it is good to see varying types of it. Highly recommended. His follow up to the series was Black Prism, which is good but not as good as this series...yet. (still has a few more books to put out before a final determination can be made.)

Although my usual reading preference is epic/high fantasy, the Night Angel trilogy was on my recommendations page from Amazon so I figured I'd give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by what a fantastic read it was. The characters are multi-dimensional, experience realistic growth, and the author really makes you care what happens to them. There are several emotional scenes where I really felt for the characters. There's a lot of action, with just enough "down time" for character introspection. The plot becomes increasingly complex as the story progresses, with more characters becoming important to the central plotline as events begin to build toward the climax, which I thought was highly satisfying, if slightly faster-paced than I would have liked. This trilogy has a lot of graphic, explicit violence, not just murder (although there's a LOT of that) but also torture, rape and cannibalism, so it's not for the feint of heart. I didn't find the violence excessive for the type of story this is, it helps to emphasize the cut-throat world that these characters live in, but it is something to be aware of.

its one of those coming of age stories that u cant put down. although the 3rd book is slower than the first 2 its still a good finish. i was tired of reading books that falls flat at the end but this was a refreshing one. thank god that weeks is not one of those author who feels that if you tie all the loose ends at the end then you are not being artistic.

I began reading The Night Angel Trilogy 5 days ago and did not put it down until I finished today. The entire series will keep you interested from beginning to end. I recommend to anyone that enjoyed the Inheritance Cycle (which is currently getting ready to release it fourth and final book) and even to those who liked Harry Potter. Loads of Magic, Fantasy, Suspense, and even a spalsh of Drama here and there. My advice is to buy it, get a couple Mtn. Dews, and begin reading this immediately. :)

Definitely one of the best Sci-Fi fantasy series I have ever read. So sad it was only a trilogy but now I eagerly await the second novel in his Lightbringer series.

For me, the book started slow, but did it pick up or what. Took me a week to break through 5 chapters and finished the remainder of the trilogy in 3 days.
I am looking forward to reading more books from this author.

I purchased this trilogy for my Kindle because I've given away all four paperback sets that I have owned. I picked these books up on a whim, and I couldn't put them down. Brent Weeks is among the best new authors out there in any genre. I typically don't read this genre; but I'll buy every book that Brent writes. This series is great for older teens and up; I would'nt let my 12 year old read it. Read one of the books, and you'll be hooked.
