5.0 out of 5 stars 70's funk with 2000 style
This album is the perfect party album whether there are two of you or 100. Dimitri moves away from the lounge style of Sacre Bleu and with tongue in cheek gives us 70's funk with a 2000 feel. 3.0 out of 5 stars Disco-ey
Not as good as Sacrebleu, but I love the 60's retro lounge stuff. When I ordered this, I wanted something loungey but this is a little too 70's disco for my liking. But, if disco is your thing, you'll like this. I gave it three stars since the recordings are not bad, just not my taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars 70's funk with 2000 style, August 29, 2000

This album is the perfect party album whether there are two of you or 100. Dimitri moves away from the lounge style of Sacre Bleu and with tongue in cheek gives us 70's funk with a 2000 feel. This album has Hip Hop, House, disco and a beat that just gets you moving. This album restored some faith in 70's music and reminded me that it wasn't all bland disco but also a decade that created some incredible funk. Dimitri remixes such classics as Ashford and Simpson's 'Found a Cure', Outro Lugar (great Latin beat), Give me Love, Shangri-La and Reach Inside. However, he does not just re-mix but transforms them into amazing house beat rhythms. It was amazing to hear the bass line from Give Me Love as it launces into a full house mixed version of the track (this bass line has been sampled in numerous house tracks over the years).

This CD is party central. It is joyful, soulful, funky and above all pure dance. The liner, notes as always with Dimitri, are wonderfully tongue in cheek as he rips apart the world of faux-sophistication. Buy this CD and dance!

5.0 out of 5 stars If You're Looking For The Funk..., October 24, 2003
This review is from: A Night At The Playboy Mansion (Audio CD)
This is the funkiest, bounciest, wildest most fun record I have. I'll sum it all up with a brief anecdote...My friends came over my house after school the other day to do a report. None of us are really big fans of dance or disco music, but for some strange reason, I then thought about how I liked this album when my older brother used to listen to it, so I decided to put it on while we were working. I didn't know what they'd think of it. I thought at least they'd get a laugh out of it, as this album is like nothing they had ever heard. My presuppositions couldn't have been more off. After about two minutes into the first track, we completely abandoned our report and just danced around the room like freaks for the duration of the 70 minute disco-funk parade. It's seriously that entrancing. Never put this on if you're trying to get work done. You really won't be able to do a thing but groove. For all other moments in your day though, I highly recommend this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disco with Soul, August 28, 2003

People who have a bad image of disco usually think of such cheese as Ring My Bell. But there is a lot of disco that came straight out of Philadelphia soul, the Gamble & Huff school and the like. Dimitri from Paris perfectly captures this more soulful vein of disco on this perfect mix. This disc is a great favourite of mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funky Fresh!, June 15, 2000
By
This review is from: A Night At The Playboy Mansion (Audio CD)
My only concern with this CD is that people will begin to dance uncontrollably! Some of the freshest funk and disco grooves I have heard ever! If you even remotely like 70's disco & funk then this is the album for you. If you remotely like house music, this album is for you. In fact I'll make it simple, this album is for you. Dimitri mixes with such incredible talent, and his selection is exquisite. from "Star", to "Shangri-La", to "Give me love", this Mix provides your RDA of funky grooves. Big Beats, WaWa guitars, and orgasmic trumpets top this album off making it one of the all time greats. Also try "Cassius" and "daft Punk."

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Cool, May 2, 2000
This review is from: A Night At The Playboy Mansion (Audio CD)
I can never find the fog machine when I want it! I have to say.. I own Dimitri's "Sacre Blue" CD and was impressed with THAT one, but THIS is so cool. I can already feel the polyester working its magic on my body, as I groove on down to the local.. the local... WHAT THE HELL AM I SAYING?

You see? That's the effect this CD has on me. I want to surround myself with naked women and chat with James Cann in the grotto. I want to pull a gun like Starsky, but rid myself of Hutch. I want to be the Huggy Bear who scores at Hef's place. I want to keep listening to this CD...

Sweet

Dimitri works his magic again...very rarely do you come across well mixed disco house cd's...but if you like the genre, you've got to get this. From start to finish, Dimitri lifts you as he spins his reworked cuts. This cd ranks as one of the best I've heard in a long, long time. If you like this, I recommend getting louie vega's mix cd "mad styles and crazy visions" which remains the best disco house mix cd in my opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remixed 70's groove with the latest beats, November 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: A Night At The Playboy Mansion (Audio CD)
Unlike Madison Avenue's "The Polyester Embassy" this album produced by Dimitri from Paris leans much more towards polishing the 70s funk and groove with danceable beats than the other way around. The tracks flow together with a groove that hasn't been seen on the dance floor for 20+ years. Dimitri has a real run mixing one great track after another with Down To Love Town (#4), Shangri-La (#5), and Talkin' All That Jazz (#6) though the entire CD has it's share of vibe ripped right from the polyester age. For those who grew up with Shaft, disco music, and polyester suites and relish the opportunity to break out some funky dance music to set the mood then spin this disc.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a real disco and funk album, April 28, 2000

I don't like it as much as Mixmag Presents... but it has some good tracks and if you're a fan of Dimitri from Paris, you should pick it up. I really like 'Reach Inside' and a few other tracks, but be ready for some real disco beats. Dimitri has some nice trumpet and saxaphone work as well which makes the record sound a bit jazzy. I like it, but if you don't have MixMag Presents, I'd go for that first.

This is definitely one of my favourite CDs to play at countless occasions; when Im driving, when Im havin a party, when I'm getting ready to go out.. I LOVE THIS CD!!!! I fell in love with it the first time I had ever heard it, and had a bit of trouble finding it. I also have some other collections by Dimitri from Paris, and though I like the others too, this is definitely my fave. Great tracks to party to and to chill out to. "Reach Inside" is my favourite hands down.
