The Night Before Christmas, originally entitled, A Visit from St. Nicholas, was written in 1822 by Clement Clarke Moore to entertain his nine children. It was first published in The Troy Sentinel, a newspaper in upstate New York, and has since been translated into many foreign languages and illustrated by countless artists. Some historians believe that Moore's description of St. Nicholas is the model for today's Santa Claus. Moore was the first to describe St. Nicholas's appearance, his flying reindeer and sleigh, and his journey down the chimney on Christmas Eve. Open each of the 24 windows in sequence, day by day beginning December 1 or all at once, and follow St. Nick as he visits a 19th century, Victorian household on Christmas Eve. Amusing illustrations and Clement Moore's text are hidden behind each window. This elegant Advent calendar is the perfect holiday gift for children or adults. The calendar measures 11 x 15 and has an easel back. It comes in a resealable poly bag.
