5.0 out of 5 stars "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
The particular charm of this much-loved Christmas poem is found in the illustrations, late nineteenth and early twentieth century full-color plates from a collection of antique picture books. The original text is familiar, beautifully balanced by page after page of images that evoke another era, when life was simple and children fell asleep on Christmas Eve with visions...

2.0 out of 5 stars Small Book!!
I have this book at my home, where I have read it many times for my own children growing up. When I ordered this as a gift for my employer's new baby, I was shocked to see how small this book is when it arrived.

This is the size of a pocket book, and does not lend well to sitting a child on your lap and allowing them to read along. The illustrations however...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!", November 9, 2005
The particular charm of this much-loved Christmas poem is found in the illustrations, late nineteenth and early twentieth century full-color plates from a collection of antique picture books. The original text is familiar, beautifully balanced by page after page of images that evoke another era, when life was simple and children fell asleep on Christmas Eve with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads, slumbering boys and girls protected by a hovering trio of angels, "mama in her kerchief and I in my cap", Santa whipping his reindeers through the snowy night sky and a brightly decorated tree surrounded by toys and packages to delight the children on Christmas morning. Over the years, this popular holiday poem of Jolly Old Saint Nick has been printed in many forms, editions of every size for every age; this 2005 Chronicle edition is perfect as a small gift for a favorite child or as a stocking stuffer, easy for small hands to hold, the illustrations as enchanting as the poem. This is the size of a pocket book, and does not lend well to sitting a child on your lap and allowing them to read along. The illustrations however beautiful, are too small for young children, and even some adults reading this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic Book, just very small, January 7, 2008
Ordered this book to read to my son and wanted it to be a classic, old looking book but thought it would be bigger - it is tiny! I would have preferred it be bigger, never thought to look at the measurements since it was a children's book, just assumed it would be good size.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Twas the Night before Christmas, January 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a wonderful version of Clement Clark Moore's Twas the night before Christmas that I bought from Amazon.com. The drawings are all from different artists of the time the book was written, and it is interesting to see the different Santa Clauses. A very nice little book.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice book, February 27, 2009

This book is one I got for my 1 year old. It's smaller than I realized but still gets the story told and has nice pictures. I only wish I had gotten one that was bigger and more "1 year old friendly"

5.0 out of 5 stars Twas The Night Before Christmas, January 7, 2009

My daughter has read this every year to her almost-12 yr old and has started reading it to the little almost-3 yr old. The older one remembers each year getting the cookies and milk ready for Santa, and, the carrots for the reindeer after the reading. He now helps his brother gather the goodies. It has been a wonderful tradition!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, large book, March 28, 2008
By
This review is from: The Night Before Christmas: A Classic Illustrated Edition (Hardcover)
Beautiful illustrations reprinted from over 40 sources. All illustrations are credited on last page. Book measures 9"X11.5" Only down side was that the price changes by the day. One day it's almost $11 another it's $8.97. But that's just the way Amazon works; something to be aware of. (It's worked in my favor often while shopping at midnight--price suddenly went down!)

5.0 out of 5 stars MY UNCLES VERY BEST, November 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Night Before Christmas: A Classic Illustrated Edition (Hardcover)
Clement C. Moore is my Great Uncle . From what I understand via my family, he wrote this and gave it to the city of New York as a gift one might say. My family has never profited financially from its popularity but we know that it brings so much love and happiness to others during this time of year, we profit every time a child reads it for the first time. I am curious to know of anyone who may have details of my uncle that may be little known. This story has been under my families tree and read at our tables for so many years. My name is Allison Cross and I live in Arizona. When I read this poem I feel like I am at home by the fire with snow on the ground and eggnog on my breath, I long for the snow during these times and reading Clements works eases me and enables me to imagine the traditional Christmas that makes this time of year so special to me. Please E-mail me with any comments or stories you may have about this work.(DAMATHEY @prodigy.com) " Merry Christmas to all...."
