Charming version of a classic,
By 3 polkadots (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Night Before Christmas (Hardcover)
There is something magical about any of Gyo Fujikawa's books, and The Night Before Christmas is no exception. From the enchanting illustration on the inside of the book cover to the peek inside provided by the cross-section of the house on the title page, Fujikawa's version of this classic poem immediately draws in the reader. Two of my favorite pages include the children sleeping amidst their sugar-plum dreams, and the illlustrations of Santa that accompany the descriptions of his eyes, cheeks, beard, round belly, etc. The illustrations will definitely appear vintage to current readers, but this only adds to the charm of the book. This is indeed a Christmas treasure.

Magical,

My absolute favorite version of The Night Before Christmas. I adored it as a child, and am so happy it is still available so that I can read it to my children. A true delight.

The best illustrated version of The Night Before Christmas, hands down! I had this book when I was a child and have very fond memories of my father reading it to me at Christmastime. I adored the beautiful illustrations. Gyo Fujikawa is a wonderful children's book illustrater. The drawings are classic and precious, beautifully detailed without being too busy. Now I plan to read this to my own daughter!

I bought this book for my family when my children were very little. My daughter knew it by heart when she was 2 1/2. The illustrations are adorable. I buy it for baby showers and baby gifts because I believe it is the one and only edition to have and a must-have for a child's library. The illustrator's vision of Santa is delightful. I love this book!

I had this version of the book when I was a child. My father read it to us every Christmas Eve. I still have the original but I was so happy to find it again. I bought it for all my brothers. The illustrations are adorable. Everyone should own some version of this Christmas Classic.

I had this book as a child and now my kids have two copies. If you want the sweetest, warmest illustrations to tell the tale of the magical night of Santa Claus, look no further.

Special version of this classic tale,
By BostonMama (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Night Before Christmas (Hardcover)
I collect children's books, and have an extensive collection. I decided before I had children that, for each child's first Christmas, I would buy a version of The Night Before Christmas for that child, write an inscription in it, and give it to him/her on the first Christmas Eve. I had my own fond memories of reading The Night Before Christmas every Christmas Eve, and I wanted to share with my children something they would have throughout childhood and pass on to their own children. My first child's first Christmas came, and this is the version I chose for her. The drawings are sweet, magical, timeless, and a bit vintage without being stuffy. Fujikawa has captured the magic and imagination of the holiday and of Moore's tale, and I know we will settle in every year to read this book in great anticipation. I know I will find lovely, gift-worthy versions to gift future children, if we are so blessed--the Mary Engelbreit version is so vibrant, for example-- but this version will always have a special place in my heart.
