Editorial Reviews

Review

"Santore has illustrated many classic stories, including Snow White, The Wizard of Oz, and The Little Mermaid, and he now brings to life Moore’s 'A Visit from St. Nicholas' in characteristically elegant and detail-rich paintings. His is a very traditional vision, as he brings readers inside a stately colonial home, tastefully appointed with wreaths, garlands, and stockings. In a particularly nice bit of design, when the narrator 'Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash,' readers can do the same, opening a double-page gatefold that reveals a quiet village blanketed by snow—and a sleigh silhouetted against the moon. It’s a gorgeous interpretation of a beloved holiday classic. All ages. (Oct.)"

This is a wonderful version of The Night Before Christmas. Contrary to the other review, I was SO GLAD he is smoking a pipe in the book - this is a classic poem and I don't like the versions that take out the verse about the pipe to be politically correct. The ilustration is wonderful and I would recommend this book to anyone.

This is the older version of The Night Before Christmas. It has the neat pictures in it that I remember when I was small and I am nearly 70 years old. It will be good to read to my great grandchildren.

If you're looking for a great book to read to your child, friends child, or your grandchild on say....Christmas Eve...this would be the book. What I like is that the words are original and the book reminds me of when my own Dad read it to me!
If it's going to be a gift, I like the nice blank square on the inside of the front of the book where you can write a little something to the person or child you may be giving it to.
In my case, I wrote.... To my precious Grandson Judah, born this year, 2011 on September 26th, With all the Love you can imagine, from your Grandfather...

This book makes an awesome gift! Happy Shopping!

The illustrations in this version are the best I have seen. Realistic down to the smallest details. The book is also quite sturdy and seems it will last for many years of traditional Christmas Eve readings and hold up to being passed down to our children to read to our grandchildren.

This was a gift for my grandson's first Christmas- My daughter in law said it was the most beautiful book and she loved having it to read year after year - I haven't seen it yet but the reviews of Amazon buyers was as usual outstanding so i am sure i made the right choice. I wanted classic and beautiful illustrations and didn't want the original story i grew up with messed with and it seems this book was the one to fit all my criteria - thanks to all the people who take the time to write these reviews - I can't wait to see it myself and bring me back to my childhood - pipe and all -

I loved the illustrations. My mom use to recite this to me as a child from memory. My main reason for purchasing this book is to have a copy of the original classic with the part of St. Nick and pipe.

I thought the book was a masterpiece on it's own, but this gift set enhances our holiday Christmas Eve reading of this delightful poem. There are three wonderful, solid, and hand painted ornaments within the set (and they arrived in a package that we can keep the ornaments safe year-in and year-out.) Each of the ornaments depicts a scenes from within the book so they compliment the store completely. Our children enjoyed hanging these on the tree this year. We have three sons and each one was able to decorate the tree with their personal favorite ornament. I'm sending my sisters copies for their families. I know they'll appreciate the sets immensely. I highly recommend this collection.
