Night Camp is bound to reach middleschoolers with its blend of mystery, horror and humor. Each chapter leaves the reader eager for more of the twists and turns of the vampire-related plot. And what pre-teen won't relate to the concept of a camp where you are not only allowed to but must stay up all night and sleep all day? My 11-year-old grandson read it and in his words, "liked it allot." If you want your children to enjoy reading, this is the book to get them started.

Vampires With a Surprising Secret,
This review is from: Night Camp (Kindle Edition)
Night Camp is a fun read from a gifted writer. From the moment main character Shane picks up the brochure for a summer camp that takes place at night, I knew something weird was going to happen and I was not disappointed. The book is funny and I laughed out loud in places as Shane and his cousin along with their friend Nicole got into one mess after another. I could never have guessed the secret, but the book had exactly the right ending. Highly recommended.

Good read for the middle school set. Shane and friends find out things aren't always what they seem. My niece and her friends will enjoy this book about vampires. Not too scary for good younger readers either. Great pace, great story, great ending!

A different summer camp adventure,

Linda Evans has written a novel that is aimed primarily for teens/young people. It is something everyone will enjoy - it is a different take on summer camps - very different!
When I was a kid at grade school, there would be assemblies showing different day camps with horseback riding, fun around the camp fire, etc. I'd go home pumped wanting to go to summer camp, and to my dismay, my folks said - NO WAY - Wasn't the money - My 1st generation Greek American parents didn't want their kid to go somewhere they didn't know - So I have no first hand experience with going to Summer Camp - at least sleepover Summer Camp. Apparently Shane Andrews does. His parents ship him off to Summer Camp each summer, and then strike out to do their own vacation adventure. Usually they pick a camp for him - this year they promise it will be his choice where to spend these weeks. Looking at all the brochures before him, he picks the one camp that sounds so off the wall - all activities will be held at night, etc. He chooses this camp hoping his parents will be freaked out by the camp's strangeness. But NO! They are cool with it and drop him off at the designated place. The 'camp' is a castle! The 'counselors' are nice, but really strange. All activities are indeed done at night time and for those who object to having to go to bed before dawn are looked at directly in the eyes and zap! they fall asleep! Something is happening here! Shane and his cousin, and new friend, Nicole, soon think the camp is run by vampires! They think the campers are meant to be 'lunch'! Therein lies the understory of the book - does being different mean being evil, or bad? Night Camp is a really cute book with a message that won't hit you over the head. It will be enjoyed by the young it was intended for, but kids of all ages. Perhaps older readers will recall their summer camp adventures - or like me, wonder about how cool summer camp must have been. Especially a camp as different as Night Camp. Cute, good read!

Incredible, fantastic fun. This story is great for pre-teen and teenagers but at my ripe age of 55 I enjoyed it as much as the kids I read it too. Exciting, scary and intriguing walk through a dark castle, late night hikes guided by possible vampires... this story is a page turner and perfect for any age.

I loved this book. I felt like I was 11 again. Wonderful plot, incredible chararacter, great morals, a very pleasant read. My boys are a little young for it right now, but I look forward to having them snuggle up under some blanket while I read this to them. Thank you Mrs. Evans for the incredible story.

While I'm definitely not the intended target age for this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book was fun, light and well paced. I've never gone to camp and if I were a kid again, Night Camp would be something that would interest me...can you imagine being able to sleep the day away and stay up all night long? Unconventional but intriguing.
The plot is well thought out and not too scary. I'd recommend this for the middle school set and a bit younger. Vampires and a wild imagination make for a fun adventure and wild ride at Night Camp.

My son and I just finished reading "Night Camp." We started it a while ago and used it for his daily required reading. I believe he was to read at least a half hour per day for school. This book really held my son's interest. What more could you ask for - spooky castles, caves, mysterious camp counselors, cute girls, dungeons, bats, and adventure. I asked my son to provide his own review of the book. Here are his insights: 10 out of 10 Suspenseful Fabulous Interesting A great kids book I can't wait until she finishes Knight Camp (Me again: I have no idea if L.C. Evans is writing `Knight Camp' but my son would sure like her to.) Great book. Thank you Ms. Evans!!

So good the kid stole it out of my bag for a 2nd read.,
This review is from: Night Camp (Paperback)
This is an excellent book. A dear friend was kind enough to let me borrow it before a 4 day weekend taking care of 2 kids (8 and 11). We spent hours each night reading "Night Camp". I've never seen these kids sit still. I don't know that I even ever sit that still. I loved Goosebumps books as a kid, and this book has blown all of those out of water. It is definitely not too scary, but it's also captivating enough to have kept me wanting to read it all those hours, instead of just tucking the kids in bed early to read on their own. When I got home after the weekend, I couldn't find the book anywhere in my bags, and it wasn't until Monday that I had realized Jeremiah (8), had snuck into my bag, stolen the book, and started over from page 1.
Thank you Linda, it's rare that I find a book the kids and I all enjoy so much.

Night Camp - A Fun Adventure!,

This review is from: Night Camp (Paperback)
Night Camp is a wonderful adventure story aimed at 9-12-year-olds, but even though I'm an adult I thoroughly enjoyed this young adventure tale. Night Camp perfectly captures the spirit and identity of kids around the age of 10 years old, who are starting to grow up yet are still driven by their imagination and desire to explore. The story centers around a young boy named Shane, being sent reluctantly off to summer camp. This is an annual occurrence he dreads, and so when his parents cast the usual stack of brochures advertising all kinds of camps his way, the last thing he wants to do is actually choose one. However his parents forced the issue, so he chooses the one that is different from all the rest -- Night Camp. It promises a summer camp experience like no other, where the kids sleep during the day and at night explore the nocturnal world. Once there, Shane and his cousin Brad soon begin to notice that there is way more different about this camp than they bargained for, especially when it comes to the camp counselors who display some very strange behaviors. They soon begin to suspect that these camp counselors are actually vampires and set about to prove their theory. Night Camp really shines in how it presents the bravery of these young kids, which is mixed with big doses of nervous anticipation, trepidation, and fear. Humor and suspense are woven throughout the story, which kept this reader quickly turning the page. Night Camp has a lot of heart and is a memorable adventure that made this adult reader feel very young at heart. Highly recommended!
