I am a retired but active senior and enjoy time with my wife, Barbara, and family (we have six children and fourteen grandchildren), writing, photography, Bocce Ball and horseshoes. I also like to travel, speak to students who wish to write and writing groups and clubs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read June 24, 2011

Night of the Cossack is a fast paced adventure about a boy thrust into manhood in less than ideal circumstances. The author uses vivid imagery and historical fact to weave a compelling and interesting journey. This book is life as it is and not as we would like it to be. We find tragedy, heartbreak, heartache, and constant adjustment through the story of Nathan Hertzfield, much like we find in real life. This made it easy to identify with and appreciate the circumstances in which Nathan found himself and for me made the book all the more enjoyable. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in a good story and learn some things along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night of the Cossack by Tom Blubaugh - A Must Read! July 30, 2011
Format:Paperback
Nathan Hertzfield is a young Jewish boy who was kidnapped by a Cossack named Nikolai and so the story begins. Nathan went from a boy to a man rather quickly. He had no choice. This story is full of suspense and you will cheer for Nathan from the beginning to the end. Nathan always wanted to do the right thing. His Momma taught him well. I was so caught up in this book that I read it in less than a day. When it ended I still wanted more. I hope that Mr. Blubaugh is writing a follow up to this book. There is more to learn from Nathan. I want to know what happens to him! I loved what the Captain said to Nathan in the last two pages of the book. A book well written Mr. Blubaugh!

I won this book in a contest. I was thrilled to say the least. Thank you Mr. Blubaugh for selecting me. I am doing this review on my own. That wasn't a request from you for winning this book.

I also want to thank Bound By Faith Publishers for sending this book directly to me after I won in such a timely manner! Thank you Mr. Vance! (Please encourage Mr. Blubaugh to write a follow up book to Night of the Cossack. His readers want more! God Bless!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the book - good for kids, too June 13, 2011
By LHinKC
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book after my 12 year old read it and loved it. He is a voracious reader (Harry Potter books, the Hunger Games series, Rick Riordan and the Percy Jackson series etc.) He read the book from start to finish in one session and declared it one of the best books he has ever read. Naturally, I decided to read the book and I am glad I did. It is a very engaging story that you can't wait to see what happens next. The characters are very moving and well written. There is an excellent plot and the story really drew me in. This is a great story that kids as well as adults can both read and enjoy. Wonderful book, and I really hope there is a sequel.
