5.0 out of 5 stars Entelligent Hard Rock at its Best
Icon's debut album showcased the band's talent and knack for writing in a style similar to Dokken, but Night of the Crime is their pinnacle of creativity. It is a concept album(except for two songs) that tells a story of murder and love played out in strong, well-crafted songs. The music maybe more pop-oriented than their debut, but one doesn't mind...

1.0 out of 5 stars Lame, sell-out sophomore effort
Their debut release, ICON, was a straight-forward rocker, with tons of talent and possibilities... Night of the Crime sees Icon totally trying to get air time on the radio waves, which proved disastrous for them. Not only did they sell-out to mainstream pressure, they sucked at it!!!
I highly recommend getting their first release, but stay away from this one as...

Icon's debut album showcased the band's talent and knack for writing in a style similar to Dokken, but Night of the Crime is their pinnacle of creativity. It is a concept album(except for two songs) that tells a story of murder and love played out in strong, well-crafted songs. The music maybe more pop-oriented than their debut, but one doesn't mind after hearing tracks like "Danger Calling" or "Out for Blood." The vocals sound not unlike that of Paul Stanley and the music is out of this world! It is hard to believe that this album and band did not become huge in the 80's, because Night of the Crime is one hell of a hard rock album. Trust me. There are not very many CD's that I would rate five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Hard rock releases from the 80's, January 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Night of the Crime (Audio CD)
This album is a little more polished than the debut. But it still rocks. The band matures on "Night of the Crime". Their songwriting vastly improves. Every song on this Cd is great, trust me. From the opening track, Naked Eyes, you see that the sound of the production is wonderful and the band uses more keyboards this time around. But the guitar work is better than ever and vocals are big and powerful. Dan Wexler was one of the most underrated guitarists of the 80's. The best songs on the CD are all of them.....but my favorites are Naked eyes, Danger calling, Shot at my heart, Frozen tears and Hungry for love. If you like great songwriting, great production and power rock...then pick up this CD.

It's a crime when theres no more stuff like this, though their first album
was heavier and melodic but this serves it's justice.danger calling,
hungry for love and out for blood are probably the best.Still worth having in your collection.

Many times people tend to look for the well known bands that had established themselves such as Dokken, Ratt, Quiet Riot, to name a few and forget other Bands like ICON. I have been a long time fan of Icon since their first S/T Album. I have searched many sites only to find that this album is always limited, so take it while you can. There are 4 Albums which ICON made and if you like this one, it sets you up for the other three. If you love melodic rock, this is it. Head to Head with Dokken, these guys would win you over any day. As I have said there are 4 albums out there. 1.S/T, 2.Night Of The Crime, 3.Right Between The Eyes, and 4.?, Still looking for that one. But in all, the greatest Arizona band, wish they had a greatest Album out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked Masterpiece!, June 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Night of the Crime (Audio CD)
Icon was a great band that somehow fell through the cracks during the 80s metal years (I just recently discovered them myself). This CD combines Dokken-style guitars (Dan Wexler can give George Lynch a run for his money) with possibly Europe-style vocals. Almost every song on here is a keeper! Try to find their out of print 3rd album, "Right Between the Eyes" if you like this one. It's at least as good as this!

5.0 out of 5 stars JUST AS GOOD AS THE DEBUT, July 21, 2005

But alot more melodic and emotional. This album always stabbed me in the heart and made me wanna cry because it reminds me of some of my past troubling romances that I had.

A very heavy, melodic, metallic, power-rock album that should not be ignored. This along with their debut are very essential. The third album is good but not as essential - only two songs on that album are worth trying to find this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Iconic melodic hard rock form the mid `80s!, December 25, 2011

"Night of crime" is the second studio album by American melodic hard rock band "Icon", originally released in 1985. "Night of crime" signified a critical turn in "Icon"s career as the band moved from the heavy metal of their debut to a glamorous melodic hard rock approach similar to the styles of "King Kobra" and "Vinnie Vincent's Invasion".

The line up features lead singer Stephen Clifford, guitarists Dan Wexler and Joun Aquillino, drummer Pat Dixon and bassist Tracy Wallach. Without any exaggeration this line up of "Icon" proved one of the most technically accomplished synergies in mid- `80s melodic hard rock. The level of musicianship is something else which combined with powerful-sexually driven songwriting nearly touch the absolute in `80s hard rock. The warning of "Danger calling" the romantic-dramatic "Shot at my heart", the protestant "Raise the hammer", the raging "Whites of their eyes", and the predatory anthem of "Hungry for love".

Stephen Clifford is every bit the melodic hard rock voice managing intensity and precision complemented by a vocal range that makes everything possible. The guitar formation delivers everything form shredding, to melodic guitar lines to twin guitar solos plus a rhythm section that witches from speeding hard rock double bass drumming to subtle AOR beats. If you are a fan of intense and colorful `80s melodic hard rock, you probably have "Icon"s second album already in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great AOR Album of All Time, June 26, 2011
This review is from: Night of the Crime (Audio CD)
My introduction to Icon was very late (In the 2000s).I always thought Strangeways had the greatest AOR album but that changed after I listened to "Night of the Crime", I was stunned, i just froze in trying to making sense of the epic greatness of this album.the atmosphere, the arrangement, the playing, the songs, the vocals, the mixing, the production, the sounds, the lyrics, pure bliss and perfection! ...The definitive AOR Pop Metal Masterpiece. This is undisputedly the greatest AOR album of all time. For hours after the first listen, I was trying to figure out how a godly masterpiece like this was made by mere mortals . Credit to Ron Nevision Too! . It is unfortunate that Icon didnt have more albums or never made it big but I'm glad that I got to experience the greatness of their Masterpiece "Night of the Crime".
P.S: SCR3W The H8rs
