Product Description

"...do not read it without all the lights on, the doors locked, and the phone close by. "
--Sue Hartigan, All About Murder Reviews

"Chilling and nerve-shattering...will drag you into a world of darkness and evil that'll leave your mouth dry and your pulse near the heart attack zone."
--Margaret Marr, Nights & Weekends Reviews

Behind the walls of Darkness...the Night Demons wait...

Fictionwise #1 Bestseller...Eppie Award nominated...

Deep within the blood-drenched walls of an ancient mansion Nathan Courtwright initiates a bizarre rite that will free every depraved soul since time immemorial to prey upon the living. Halted on the verge of success, he discovers the cost of failure is far greater: living interment in the family mausoleum, his demon soul consigned to a netherworld of suffering for all eternity. But when the mausoleum is torn down a century later, the evil that was Nathan Courtwright escapes...an evil capable of prying into its victims' deepest fears and blackest nightmares.

Haunted by frightening visions, Paul Stanford returns to the fate-shrouded town of Dark Harbor, Maine--a town filled with sorrow and dark memories. Within days he finds himself locked in a desperate and terrifying struggle that spans a century-old feud and demonic desires. Only he holds the key to the door of the damned-a key that will cost him the life of the woman he loves and his very soul. A key that will fill the world with Night Demons...

"...one of the best horror authors to come out of Maine since Stephen King—and Night Demons, with its deep characterization, its exceptional realm of horror, and page after page of super suspense proves that tenfold. Don’t pass up this extraordinary novel by an extraordinary author."
--Margaret Marr, Nights & Weekends Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars NIGHT DEMONS, March 14, 2007
By
Susan Hartigan (Riverside, California United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: NIGHT DEMONS (Paperback)
Can a person's dreams answer questions that elude them in their waking hours? Can they lead you to the place, or person, where these questions will be answered? And do you really want those answers?

These questions seem to rule the life of Paul Stanford. Every since running from Dark Harbor, Maine, as a young man, he has never been able to stay in any one place, or have a long lasting relationship with anyone, because of his dreams. Dreams that seem to haunt him everywhere he goes.

But now, it was time to go back to Dark Harbor and face these dreams, and face the woman he left so many years ago, because of these dreams. He needs answers, but even more, he needs Jenny Gazio, the girl he left behind ten years ago.

Upon returning however, Paul finds much more than just answers to his questions. He finds evil. An evil that wants to consume Paul, and the entire town of Dark Harbor. An evil that crosses a century. Only Paul can stop it before it devours the entire town. And only he can save Jenny from this Demon that is determined to win. A Demon that is so evil that both he, and Jenny could very well lose the battle.

I have to admit that I am not a horror fan. Not one bit. But Howard Hopkins is a genus when it comes to writing this genre. He not only scares a person to death, but he can also hold ones attention so well that no matter how scared you are, you cannot look away from the pages. NIGHT DEMONS grabs your attention on page one. But at the same time the horror is woven around a wonderful story. A story that really keeps you guessing, and wondering, what will happen next. But like Paul, do you really want to know? And also like Paul, you just have to know.

I can rave enough about NIGHT DEMONS. It is such an absorbing story, and so horrifying at the same time. If you are a horror fan, NIGHT DEMONS will put all the others you have ever read on the back burner. If you are not a horror fan, you will become a Howard Hopkins horror fan immediately. I know, I have. NIGHT DEMONS is one book you just have to read. But do not read it without all the lights on, the doors locked, and the phone close by. Because you just never know.................the Demon may be very near by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night Demons, July 30, 2011
This review is from: NIGHT DEMONS (Paperback)
NIGHT DEMONS is truly gripping! I have to say that this is my favorite book to date by Mr. Hopkins. I'm a big Stephen King fan and I felt like I was reading one of Mr. Kings books right from page one and all the way to the end. From the very start of NIGHT DEMONS I felt the same excited anticipation that only Stephen King has been able to give me in a horror book.

Mr. Hopkins delighted me with his visual detail and his excellent way
with words. He has written a great book of horror and suspense and I loved every single minute of NIGHT DEMONS. I was so surprised and absolutely thrilled while I was reading, to find that Mr. Hopkins had surpassed himself. I didn't think it was possible.

If you love true horror, the kind that really creeps you out and won't
let you read without all the lights on, then you will absolutely love
NIGHT DEMONS! I haven't been this frightened by a book in quite a while and I loved it! Mr. Hopkins is a true master at scaring the socks off you. He sure didn't hold back his imagination while leading me through a hell of a terrifying ride. I've been an admirer of Mr. Hopkins work for quite a while, but now I consider myself one of his biggest fans. Grab NIGHT DEMONS if you sincerely want the scare of your life!

5.0 out of 5 stars YES!!! You WANT to read this book!!!, July 21, 2011
This review is from: NIGHT DEMONS (Paperback)
"Paul turned, about to get back into his car when something caught his attention. Again, the sense of dread crawled through him, the sense that something hidden was calling to him, though much weaker than before. His gaze seemed drawn to one of the boarded-up windows, to an uncovered dusty pane, as if the strange feelings were emanating from the glass. As he watched, Paul swore for an instant, a face, tenuous and childlike, appeared in the window. A boy's face. The remnants of a child's gleeful laugh seemed to echo from somewhere, nowhere, everywhere, as quickly dissolving in the wind. "Tommy..." Paul whispered...". What better way to let others know what an amazing writer Howard Hopkins is than with his own words? Mr. Hopkins captivates, no...captures his readers and takes them on a wild ride. You aren't an outsider looking into his stories, you are a part of them. The people and places are so believable and his discriptions make it so easy for them to spring to life. Whether it is Night Demons or any other of Mr. Hopkins' breathtaking reads, you won't be dissapointed!

More About the Author

Howard Hopkins' life took a dramatic turn after picking up his first Doc Savage book at the age of 13, though he wouldn't realize it until a number of years later. On a snowy November day, the daydream prone, shy child began a journey into escapist fiction that would later inspire him to write over 40 novels in the horror, western, comic book, science fiction and pulp adventure genres. "I never realized at the time how much the author of that book would inspire me to create my own stories and fire a passion to help others escape from their own problems, even if only for a few hours." Many years later Howard sold his first short story, a horror tale, to a small press magazine and not long after completed his first novel NIGHT DEMONS, a generational horror tale set in the supernaturally cursed town of Dark Harbor, Maine. A second horror novel, GRIMM, soon followed, which spawned his most recent supernatural/mystery series THE CHLOE FILES.

Now Howard is the author of numerous horror novels/western novels/comic book fiction, as well as over 50 published short stories, one recently appearing in THE SPIDER CHRONICLES with John Jakes (The Spider being that uber violent and trifle psychotic crimefighting pulp hero of the 1930s. He recently coedited, wrote the intro and two stories for THE AVENGER CHRONICLES, a short story anthology dedicated to the greatest pulp hero of the 40s, The Avenger) and has upcoming work in the Captain Midnight and The Green Hornet anthologies.

Besides NIGHT DEMONS, GRIMM, and THE CHLOE FILES, his novels under his own name include, THE DARK RIDERS (a vampire western) and his short story anthology DARK HARBORS, which were EPPIE nominated finalists and Fictionwise top five bestsellers. He also write a spooky series for children (8+) called THE NIGHTMARE CLUB, the first called THE HEADLESS PAPERBOY.

His recent trade paperback novel PISTOLERO combines horror and mystery with his second writing love, westerns, which he authors under the penname Lance Howard. So far he has written 32 Black Horse Westerns in hardcover and trade paperback, the most recent being COYOTE DEADLY.

His comic book and graphic novel scripts include, The Spider: Judgement Knight and the upcoming The Strange Case of The Spider and Mr. Hyde, and he is a big fan of the pulps, especially Doc Savage, The Avenger and The Shadow.

"I love entertaining people and taking them away from reality and giving something back to others. I started writing because Doc Savage, and other pulp heroes helped me through a difficult period in my life and awakened a creative spark that turned into a roaring fire. Writing is my passion and being able to touch others' lives through words drives me to tell stories. I invite you to take a look at my personal website for excerpts, contests and more info about my work."

Howard lives in a small southern Maine coastal town and his interests include bodybuilding and playing multiple instruments.
