Christmas Specials are fairly common, but there was a time when Halloween Specials were common too! This is one of those specials(better known as "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't")! I'm so happy to have found it on video and can't wait to order it in time for next Halloween! I haven't seen it since I was a kid! If my memory serves me right, here's the story. All the famous monsters, Dracula, Wolfman, etc...are worried that there won't be a Halloween this year. The reason is that the Witch has lost the Halloween spirit, and doesn't want to make her anual broomstick flight across the moon! Dracula and the monsters get together to try and convince the witch how important she is to the children of the world! There's a very "Love at first Bite, for kids" feeling to the whole thing, which makes it that much more enjoyable! If you love Halloween and tend to be saddened by the fact that there seem to be very few specials for the Holiday, you need to pick this one up! Also pick of the version of The Worst Witch that stars Fairuza Balk. It's sort of a low, low budget Harry Potter! Ha ha! And don't forget Disney's Masterpieces, Hocus Pocus and the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, and Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow! Happy Halloween!

I agree, when will this movie come out on DVD! I remember watching this movie when I was a kid. It made Halloween twice as fun and special. I don't know what it was about the movie that I loved so much, but there was definately something magical about it. I also remember how depressed and saddened I became when the T.V. network pulled the plug and stopped showing this movie. I didn't even know it was released on video back in 92 or else I would have bought the movie! Now I want it on DVD----BAD! I would love to show this movie to my son and have the magic of the movie touch him the way it touched me! Ah yes, the good ole innocent days of Halloween, seen through the eyes of a child.

Will they ever put this on DVD or will I spend the next 50 years of my life wishing I could see it one more time before I die?
I saw this short movie on TV on halloween night as a kid. I loved it.
I taped it once on VHS-but I lost the tape in the mess of 300 VHS tapes I own in what was my desparate attempt to record and capture special tv movies/shows from my childhood.
Even if I had the tape-it was all fuzzy and going bad.
It's the best traditional family fun short movie comedy that I've ever seen. There's nothing out there like it. I WANT THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THIS ON DVD!!!!

For years I searched for this movie! At last I've found it!

I remember watching it every Halloween on the Disney Channel when I was a child (in the eighties). My sister and I just adored it but then Disney stopped airing it sometime in the nineties. Years later I would recall how funny it was but had no idea what it was called. I used to ask friends if they remembered a Halloween movie in which Dracula saved Halloween by persuading a witch to fly over the moon, but I just got a lot of weird stares. However, I can see from the reviews here that this short little movie obviously left an impression on several kids.

This movie MUST be released on DVD. It's such a shame that it isn't. It might not have the highest production values, but the humor is rather addictive.

By the way, for those of you craving to see it again...it's on Youtube. Search under "The Halloween that Almost Wasn't." It was great to see it after all these years!

Halloween specials sure don't get any more magical than this!
Trust me, this one's a real treat!

I tried searching for it as "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't", which was the title it originally had back when I first saw it on TV in the late eighties. Thank God for Amazon's user reviews for letting me know the title's been changed.

There's a genuine Halloween flavor to these unforgettable 30-minutes of your time that you just couldn't resist, and has left me personally with some wonderful and very distinct memories of the whole thing.

The monsters are all super fun to watch, especially as they all get together to try bringing back the witch's Halloween spirit. Some really funny moments too.

If they're gonna release some really dumb movies out there on DVD, how could they let this one slip by, especially since it seems to have cast a spell on just about anyone who's seen it.

I have been telling my friends about this movie for years trying to find someone to tell me what it was called...all I had was a vague recollection of watching it before going out trick-or-treating when I was little and a little memory of the plot, something along the lines of "the witch didn't want to be apart of Halloween but she had to because she was the one who started Halloween and Dracula had to convince her that the children loved her so she would fly across the moon" Not to much to go on but finally I found it...I told them I wasn't making it up!! This movie is one of my favorite things about Halloween to me it was Halloween's version of a Christmas Carol! Now if it would just come out of DVD!!!

Seriously, this really is a fun Halloween story that I know kids would like. The little ones will dig the story and the older ones will enjoy the cheesy 70's-ness of it. I know my brother and I certainly did when we first saw this on the Disney Channel in the mid-80's. The sequence where Judd Hirsch is forced to go "Disco DAN-cing" is almost enough to make me pay $50 for this film - but I'd much rather save my cash and wait for it to be released on DVD. Is there any way we could petition Judd Hirsch to get is support for this effort?
