A New Davern,Condon and Gang Discovery,
By Steve Emerine (Tucson, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night With Eddie Condon (Audio CD)
Arbors Records is one of the best-kept secrets in today's jazz circles, but this discovery of a 1971 Syracuse concert by an Eddie Condon-led septet may help shine a light on the company's outstanding products. Guitarist Condon chose Davern, a young clarinet and soprano sax player, to work with veterans like trumpeter Bernie Privin, trombonist Lou McGarrity, pianist Dill Jones, bassist Jack Lesberg and drummer Cliff Leeman on 12 classical jazz standards. The result is 70+ minutes of great music and brief wit from Condon that sounds as good today as it did 30 years ago. This will make a fine addition to your Condon, Davern or classic jazz collection.
