This is amazing? Really?,
This review is from: Night Enchanted (MP3 Download)
I've been an incredible fan of TSO, not having missed a concert in four years, owning all of their albums. Additionally, I own every Savatage album, and some of Jon Oliva's side project too. So, with an extensive history in TSO, 'tage and O'Neill, I say: This is amazing?
Beethoven's Last Night is incredible. The pacing of songs is well done. This song, however, is merely a chorus. There are no catchy riffs, no emotional buildups... I'm not saying that talent-wise, this track is poor. The vocals are impressive, especially the beautiful female singer. However, there is more to music than technical talent. This song is just plain boring. It has no builds, no crescendo. It fluctuates, sure, but the song as a whole builds to nothing. I find the chorus more obnoxious than well-utilized here - there is simply too much of it. The chorus works so well in Beethoven's Last Night because it is used sparsely and wisely, at excellent moments of crescendo or power. In that album, the chorus is my favorite aspect. Here, however, the chorus dominates the entire song here. Additionally, the overproduction is just painful. The song is so clean, it's sterile. I truly wish that this song had more soul - it SHOULD. By utilizing a chorus, the song attempts to be "epic", surely. But the fact is that the song hardly achieves that goal, because it fails to build to a climax. There are many small ones, but they only serve to make the song disjointed. There was a level of majesty that could have been reached in "Night Enchanted" that was not. This is disappointing because their rendition of Carmina Burana is truly marvelous. I have high hopes for this album and certainly I will buy it the minute it's released. If it mirrors this track, however, it will be a disappointing purchase. Too much of a good thing is a time-tested adage, and it proves true here as well. Perhaps in the context of the album this song will be better. At least it tells us something - they've actually written more than one song, so maybe this album does exist and will be released one day.

Disappointed,
This review is from: Night Enchanted (MP3 Download)
I'm quite disappointed by this track by TSO. First, I found it overly produced. Second, after the first 30 seconds to a minute, I couldn't help but think how much better the Dies Irae from Verdi's "Requiem" sounded (the classical piece this track borrows heavily from).
So, I did a very unscientific test. I played 30 seconds of this and then 30 seconds of the Dies Irae, for my girlfriend who had not heard either. She too liked the Dies Irae better. The percussion is more powerful and the chorus sounds better as well. My recommendation on this is to stick with the original.

Diss-Enchanted,

For something TSO has been promoting for over 3 years, this is a very dissapointing intro. In fact, this song should be just that, an "intro" that should be cut down to 1/4 of the length. The first 25 seconds sound pretty good, but what are they trying to accomplish with this song? A messy compilation of everything they've ever done? I found myself bored within 2 minutes hoping it would end.
I love everything TSO has done 'before' this release.

Is this all?,

As a long time TSO fan I was so excited to be able to hear something new from them. I kept waiting for the music to build or the vocals to be outstanding or a wonderful solo by one of the talented musicians. I kept telling myself listen to the end. Don't judge to quickly. Boy was I wrong. If this song is any indication of how the album will sound, I will be very disappointed. It does not compare with any of their previous work.
I really would like to have new music by this talented group, but if this preview is what we are getting..............

Inspiring to the Soul Within,
This review is from: Night Enchanted (MP3 Download)
I saw the TSO last evening in Philadelphia and it was mind expanding, moving, and the performances were absolutely moving! I have followed TSO for many years but this was my first opportunity to experience them in person and I plan to do so again. I think each of us gets into it where we are spiritually and physically. My heart is totally opened into magical possibilities if it wasn't before.
These musicians are definitely Masters of their craft upon this Earth. Christine

Just saw TSO Nov 29 in Philadelphia awesome, power, precision, absolute great show. Even the hair bobbing of the singers was perfect. The pyrotechnics, light show, and staging were incredible. The absolute power of the music took my breath away. They span all generations, it is a must see at least once in your life time.

I'm disappointed in Night Enchanted. It's too mellow and not instramental. I don't want to hear sappy Christmas music. I want the edgy, powerful instramental music I feel in love with. Night Enchanted is lame. TSO, bring back the hard rock! That's what your fans love. We are metal heads!

I was so looking forward to a new TSO album, but this song really disappoints. By far, their best songs are instrumental first, solo singers second, chorus third. The chorus on this song is just too boring. Sorry, TSO, I really love you!

I have also been a loyal TSO/Savatage fan for a long time. Seen them many times in different cities.
I happen to really like the song. It's not going to be my next favorite but it is good. Very rock-opera like. I like that it slows down and speeds up. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album. I will be buying it when it finally, finally comes out!

TSO is DOA?,
This review is from: Night Enchanted (MP3 Download)
Oh come on, guys! This piece is so boring. The other reviewer is right, it doesn't go anywhere. When you put out a free download as a teaser, it's supposed to excite you to by the album. I actually want to go run and hide from it. It's like they are just trying to ride on the coat tails of Beethoven's Last Night and that's just not going to cut it for me.
I seriously hope the rest of the album is blockbuster great. But this is not. |
