5.0 out of 5 stars Lyrical writing will lull kids to sleep!
The lyrical and melodic writing in this book is very appealing to small children - not to mention the beautiful illustrations. It's an ideal book for helping to soothe 'revved' engines at bedtime!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as Good
I picked this book up from the library after my son (20 months) and I discovered "Wake Up Engines". Neither one of us cared for this one at all. It was missing the fun truck sounds that made him love the "Wake Up Engines" so much. The pictures are still beautiful but we didn't enjoy the story. The most enjoyment I got out of it was the look of horror on my son's face...

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully helpful book !, October 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Good Night Engines (Hardcover)
This is a delightful book for little children that will help them make the transition from their busy play time to settling for the night in a tranquil and soothing manner. The words and pictures work well in portraying the winding down of all sorts of engines, both mechanical and internal! Reading this to their children will also help Mom and Dad leave the work-a-day world behind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Boy Book!, March 18, 2008

My son is 23 months old and just loves this book! Since he learned how to walk, he stopped sitting on my lap to read his bedtime stories and would motor around the room as I read his book. However, we started reading this book a month or so ago and he now wants to be on my lap again:) He enjoys the story (rhyming words with a nice rhythm that catch his attention) and just loves the pictures! He especially likes the two pages with fire trucks on them. My son is on the go the entire day and has a short attention span, but this book makes him slow down and sit with me! Great book! I'm going to buy WAKE UP ENGINES next!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will be a classic, December 28, 2003

What a delightful new book! This is a beautifully written book with a gentle lyrical quality that makes it a pleasure for the reader and the listener alike. As a mother of two toddlers, reading Good Night Engines is a smooth transition to bedtime. I save it for last and always hear "Again, Mommy" which is fine with me. The illustrations are lovely also. I just wish the publisher would release this in a board book which would hold up better to all the wear and tear our copy is likely to receive.

Good reads for toddlers. Short rhymes per page, with transportation every. We had originally gotten them at the library, but found we needed our own copies at home. Don't forget Wake Up Engines by the same author.

It was missing the fun truck sounds that made him love the "Wake Up Engines" so much. The pictures are still beautiful but we didn't enjoy the story. The most enjoyment I got out of it was the look of horror on my son's face when he mistakenly brought me this one instead of the "Wake Up" book. Back to the library it went with no regrets.
