I always try to suspend belief when I read these romances. That being said, I thought Pru was a little too prudish in the way of the world. Her being a virgin didnt bother me as much as she seemed a little too over protected from things especially living with 3 men: her grandfather and two brothers for heaven sake!!

Roarke was great but I had to remember this...

She had never longed for love like this...

Rebecca Cullen didn't want to fall in love with Rourke Kilpatrick. At 24, she was saddled with the job of raising her teen brothers, tending their Georgia farm, and earning a living--responsibilities that all but choked her hopes for a personal life. Then Becky's brother was arrested on drug charges, and she had to see the district attorney. D. A. Rourke Kilpatrick was notorious for his hard line against drugs. His good looks struck Rebecca as forcefully as his misbegotten blind justice. But to her surprise, he telephoned her, showed sympathy, and seemed to want to get to know her. Then, one night, his lips touched hers, and all she wanted was to feel his strong body against hers--forever. But was the man she fell in love with just using her to investigate a crime? And could she really trust a man who had the power to destroy her--and break her heart?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Classic!, January 6, 2006
Diana Palmer's "Night Fever" is a classic romance that's being re-released for the first time in over a decade. This read is very romantic and sensual and one that will entertain the reader for sure.

Rebecca Cullen has a hard life but she doesn't let that get her down. Her mother died when she was young, her father ran off, one brother insists on hanging with the wrong people, and her grandfather is sick. She works all day at the law office, and comes home to take care of her little family. She is twenty-four and has no social life. What she does have though is a rather entertaining relationship with a man that works in her building. He annoys her, she snipes at him...it's not perfect but it's something. Than her brother Clay gets arrested. It's a well-known fact that the D.A. is hard on crime and harder on crime related to drug use. She knows that there is little she can do but with the help of her boss (another lawyer) she hopes to talk this strict D.A. to accept a possible plea bargain. Imagine her shocked surprise when she finds out that the D.A. is none other than the obnoxious elevator man! No what?

Rourke Kilpatrick takes his job of D.A seriously. When the pretty but young Rebecca comes to is office trying to help her brother he reluctantly agrees but warns that he won't do it again a second time. He has enjoyed their sparing matches in the elevator and he didn't like seeing the downtrodden look in her eye when she came to him for help. This is just the beginning of a relationship that neither can imagine having but at the same time turning their backs on. Will these two lonely people finally find the love that they each deserve?

Rourke and Becky were wonderfully drawn characters. Their romance is very sensual not in action but in how they grow together as a couple. Although at times Becky's naïve nature wears thin, it's still true to her character so readers should be patient when coming to this portion of the story. Ms. Palmer tackles a very dark subject regarding drugs, which is sadly always timely so this read won't seem dated despite the fact that it was originally penned in the early nineties. Truly this is a classic love story and one that I highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars reprint (under the name Susan Kyle) of an engaging legal thriller romance, November 30, 2005
Twenty-four years old Rebecca Cullen works as a "mule", the lowest ranked employee at a law firm just outside Atlanta while living nearby on her grandfather's farm in Curry County. She has raised her two younger brothers Mack and Clay since their mom died eight years ago; their dad deserted his family years earlier. Though she worries about their mounting debt and expects to sell the farm soon even knowing that will kill her beloved granddad; her biggest concern is Clay running with a fast crowd whom Becky knows uses crack.

Curry County police arrest Clay on drug charges. County D.A. Rourke Kilpatrick is known for being tough on drug offenders, even young ones as he feels strongly about keeping drugs out of his community. However, to Becky's shock, Rourke is gentle with her and with her sibling who he sees as possible bait to catch the real felons. He also wants more from his virgin that he cherishes, but she fears that his tough love approach to her brother will break her heart.

This reprint (under the name Susan Kyle) is an engaging legal thriller romance starring a courageous heroine who gained too much responsibility too soon and a justice driven D.A. who will do anything legal to keep drugs out of the county. Though the romance seems more fairy tale than real, readers will commiserate with Becky, who has no time for courtships. The legal aspects are cleverly designed so that the audience obtains a taste of justice in that rare metro Atlanta region lacking a population boom (then again this tale takes place in 1990) and the pairing though seemingly odd at first make for a fun Georgian Cinderella romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent hero for a change!!, January 5, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Usually Diana's heroes are macho men without much common sense, this hero was thoughtful and did seem to reach out to her entire family in their time of need. Being the D.A. and tough on drug offenders her brother put their relationship in a great deal of jeopardy. Rourke was tough but really great with the conflict in her family concerning their relationship.

I never got the feeling that Rourke was using Rebeccah to find evidence against her brother or the gang that was trying so hard to get him involved. To me it was an excuse to get close to Rebeccah. I thought this was a nice easy read and enjoyed the book. I also recommend Lawless although the hero in that book was a bit thick.

Roarke was great but I had to remember this was 1990 when every other sentence with him in it had him attached to this cigar! In the elevator, cafes, hospital whatever!! Have you ever kissed a man who has been smoking a cigar? Well, I have and it is NOT pleasant. Let's hope it was a cheroot!!! :D:D:D:D:D But the rest of him was written quite well.

It was an amusing romance, sensuality a 6. Drugs and law are popular topics; never seeming to go out of style, unfortunately. Read the book quite quickly and it moved along nicely. Now on to more serious reading. These foo foo books are raising my blood sugar!

5.0 out of 5 stars Night Fever, January 21, 2006
This was an wxcellent book. When it started Becky kept running into this man with a cigar in his hand and she was getting annoyed by him. Then when her brother got into trouble and she had to talk to the District Attorney and found out that it was him she was shocked. As the book went on I started to hate the District attorney Mr. Kilpatrick because he was using Becky to get to her brother.

Suddenly I started to feel sorry for him because he relized how he felt about her and he knew that she was pregnant but she wouldn't have anything to do with him. I cheered when she married him and I cried at the end when her brother got out of jail thanks to Mr. Kilpatrick.

I definitely recommend this book to read.

I enjoy reading Diana Palmer's books. She tends to have a happy ending. Her alpha male in Night Fever is a take charge District Attorney Rourke Kilpatrick who hates drug pushers and will go to any lengths to prosecute them.

Becky Cullen is a country girl who's taken on the responsibility for the care of her two younger brothers and her grandfather, after he had a heart attack. Their father abandoned the family two years ago. She supports her family on a secretary's salary which isn't much to live on. Becky has to be frugal with her paycheck. She is the sole support of her family. Becky is twenty-four years old. Her brothers Mack is ten, and Clay seventeen. Becky likes her job. She works for a law firm. In Becky's law firm they all know how insufferable Kilpatrick is and they don't like to plea bargain with him. She has heard a lot of stories about him, but hadn't met him.

Becky's law office is in a new high rise. She has to take an elevator to the floor where the law firm is located, and often shares the ride with a tall and sexy man who smokes mini-cigars. Becky has been throwing insults at the man about his cigars. That led to other insults from both sides, but ironically, neither of them was truly offended. Unknown to Becky. the man on the elevator was none other than DA Rourke Kilpatrick. Rourke took a liking to Becky, because no one has ever stood up to him like that before. Whenever they rode on the elevator, they would start in needling each other. Kilpatrick looked forward to their fencing so much that there were times when he would wait for her to appear before jumping on the elevator.

Becky received a call at work that her brother was in jail for drug charges. Her boss is a defense attorney. Becky and her boss went to see Kilpatrick. She was shocked that the man from the elevator is Kilpatrick. Her one word: You!! Kilpatrick dropped the charges for lack of evidence to go to court. He wanted Clay to seek counseling. Becky is trying to keep her brothers together and help her grandfather. It hasn't been easy for her, Clay hanging around with kids that are pushing drugs into the mid-middle schools.

Kilpatrick and Becky were attracted to each other. Kilpatrick's persona in Public, or in the courtroom, is intolerable, but when Becky is in Kilpatrick's company, he is very kind and protective.

Diana Palmer does not disappoint with Night Fever. Recommend!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good love story, poor editing, April 12, 2006
By
Rebecca Cullen is 24 years old and struggles to support her two brothers and her grandfather. She is determined to do it all without asking for anyone's help. Her mother died when she was younger, and their father left them. Rourke Kilpatrick is the local district attorney with a steely determination to bring criminals to justice. Rourke happens to be working temporarily in the same building as Becky. Their first meeting is not exactly a romantic encounter. Things are not easy as Becky falls for Rourke at the same time that her brother Clay is getting in trouble with the law. Overall it was a decent love story but editorial errors spoil the smooth flow of the narrative.
