From the Back Cover

The world is ash, destroyed, and now controlled by Strangers. Survivors live in constant peril. But in the heart of Envy, resistance grows . . .

Somehow Bruno "Fence" Washington survived the apocalypse—emerging from a Sedona cave into a strange and terrible new world . . . fifty years later. Now, scouring the ruined earth for answers about the malevolent Strangers, the former extreme sportsman encounters an Amazonian beauty who calls to his every desire, but whose secret could mean his end.

Ana grew up in the ocean, diving far beneath the waves to the remnants of a world she never knew. Try as she might she can't resist the man who tempts her in ways she never knew possible . . . whose touch elicits truths she swore never to reveal. But the passion between them won't be denied even though it means facing a new evil rising up from the roiling waters to blanket the world in unending night.

4.0 out of 5 stars Night Forbidden July 31, 2012
By Vanessa
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am positive this just became my favorite book of the series. I loved Fence. His personality is great. I loved the constant jokes and comments he made in (and out) his head. The fact that Ana got his humor and he made her laugh as often as he did just adds to the many reason they are a great couple. Ana is a very enjoyable heroine to read. She brings a very unique ability to the series. She also sheds some more light on the mysterious crystals that the Cult of Atlantis/Stranger/Elite is adorned with.

The new danger to Envy is definitely attention grabbing. Bounty hunters are after Quent because of what he took from his father. The Elite have been informing the Atlanteans that the residents of Envy are stronger than they appear and need to be stopped before they rise up. Ana is in tune with the ocean enough that she knows something is wrong deep in its depths, and then something strange washes up on the shore of Envy.

I was glad to read pieces where past couples were involved. Zoe and Quent had larger roles than some of the other past couples. I was never a Zoe fan. She has been my least favorite heroine of the series. The fact the she got as much page time as she did annoyed me. I'm still very curious about Wyatt and when he will get his book. I think Joss may have set that up some at the end of Night Forbidden. I'll keep my fingers crossed on that wish.

This is an easy series for me to love. I love paranormal romance. The paranormal element is also different from most. The majority of the characters were born human and the Change has changed them. The readers are still learning new things about the force behind the Change. I love reading worlds that have been affected by an apocalypse. The Envy Chronicles puts both of these elements into one book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Way better than Night Betrayed September 12, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well I certainly adored!!! The first three books for this series. The characters were interesting and to be honest it was the right mix of gritty and tidy loose ends in other words nothing too disparaging but also not silly. Ms. Ware's take on the apocalypse is also a bit different I enjoy her mix of urban/paranormal/zombie land/wild west setting. However with Theo's book I didn't much enjoy any of it and thought oh crap here we go downhill with yet another author... but with this book that was definitely NOT true!! I read Night Forbidden in one day. I loved how quickly it read. I didn't think I was a big fan of Fence but to be honest I really liked him and Ana I really enjoyed her character. She was realistic, curious, flawed and a good person. Her reactions to things would be my reactions... In any case this book was WAY better than Night Betrayed though not my favorite it was still pretty awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the series August 25, 2012
By MrsMO

These books keep getting better and better. The only negative I have about this book is that I miss the other characters. We didn't see much of Lou or Theo, none of Simon, Sage. We saw a bit of Zoe and Quent, but I actually miss some of the other characters. We did get a lot of our questions answered, and I can't wait for Wyatt's story!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Wait is Finally Over August 8, 2012
By Shae
Format:Mass Market Paperback
It felt like I'd waited for this installment in the series for five years! However, it was only a year and a half. Hehehe

I will just start by saying, "I love Fence!" he is cute, witty, and sexy! I enjoyed the fact that Joss gave you just enough info to remind you of important events that occured in previous books. (I hate it when I have to go back to a previous book to browse a detail because I'm lost.) Things are getting complicated in the city of Envy, but that just means another book is on the way. Yay!

The thing I liked the most about this book was being able to get a brief update on all of the characters. I also enjoyed Fence falling in love, but it seemed to happen rather quickly. Fence is a flirt and I was hoping for more scenes of him flirting with random people, but the sex scenes made up for my brief disappointment. LOL

Thanks Joss for another wonderful installment of this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! August 7, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Joss Ware has succeeded again in mixing elements of paranormal romance, post-apocalyptic drama, intense romantic situations, erotic moments and even humour into a brilliant suspenseful story.
Fence and Ana's story is heart warming but also at times heart wrenching.
There were so many twists and turns in this book. It never disappointed.
I jsut love how through the fifth book of the series the author sets the scene and characters for book six. Joss Ware is truly a gifted writer.
Fence and Ana's story is one of the most romantic of the chronicles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great post-apocalyptical/Atlantis story! August 4, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Review Courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy

NIGHT FORBIDDEN could very well have been a solo story rather than the latest installment in the Envy Chronicles series and it would have worked just as well from a story perspective. I enjoy a good post-apocalypse story and what made NIGHT FORBIDDEN uniquely exciting was the addition of Atlantis being a reason for the Earth's near total destruction. I thought it was a cool idea to have Fence his friends be from the past (our present) though I would have liked to see some more differences or adjustments for them which they probably dealt with in previous books.

With many apocalypse stories we get zombies and NIGHT FORBIDDEN is no exception, but they were barely seen which I found odd since they kept referencing them. They seemed like such a small threat that when they did show up I just didn't care and wanted to get back to talking about the central mystery of the story.

Fence was a fun character and I enjoyed his heroic acts just as much as his corny jokes and hilarious comments. He and his friends came out of a Sedona cave 80 years in the future and some of them came out with some unique powers. I kind of felt bad for him throughout most of the book as he's the one guy that survived the apocalypse but didn't get any special abilities. On the plus side, he does get the girl. I loved how well Fence and Ana got along almost instantly and how Ana really `got' and liked Fence's humor and personality. I really liked Ana's backstory reveal as it links her to Atlantis and the big mystery surrounding it in this story.

While I enjoyed the central story about Atlantis and the danger surrounding the town of Envy, I would have loved to have learned even more about the fabled lost island.
