The characters, the environment, the lighting, the filth...it's just great. This is a film where the story briefly leads your imagination onto the more optimistic side of life but the reality and circumstances surrounding that sense of "being alright" suddenly violate your expectations. Watch it.

The story of two men who have been friends since childhood. Separated for the last seven years, their individual plans for the immediate future are as diametrically opposed as the U.S. State of Florida and anywhere else in the civilized world. Yes, that's a shot at Florida, because there is very little difference between The Golden Eagle Hotel and then State of Retirement and Death (FL).

Meant to be a brief stopover befiore starting their new, "straight" lifes together (not meant in the "gay way," but as in lawful citiizens without crime). That commitment goes haywire and the plans go to hell in a handbasket.

There is a considerable amount of black humor mixed into the blending of depraviety, disappointment and depression. Unless a person has witnessed this style of life by living it, I can't imagine how an innocent, inexperienced person could understand the characters (as developed)and the lifes they lead. This is really a true depiction of a particular level of society. Sad as it may appear, it's truely sadder when experienced first-hand.

Well written, well directed, well acted and well produced. Well, well, well... I Liked It!!!

Little known, most entertaining movie on DVD in 2.35:1 widescreen. Night at the Golden Eagle pulls no punches and though it was made on a rather low budget it certainly delivers the goods. A very dark depressed atmosphere is created almost from start to finish and unlike most 5 star classics you probably would not want to keep in your dvd player for more than a play at a time... Still this DVD is a must for the collector of classic films. Watch it with the director commentary on after you have watched it regularly and you will get a great, incredibly interesting in depth perspective about the making of this rather unique, contemporary classic.

To those who have not seen this movie,be warned.The subject matter of this film is dark but well written.It has a sense of realism that anyone can identify with and not always see the people in this preconceived notion that blinds us.To those who love movies where things don't always have a cut and dry happy and realize that even best of people don't always make the right choices,this is your film.

Both Detroit Rock City and Night At The Golden Eagle are perfect films in my mind. So, why is it that Rifkin doesn't get more attention as a filmmaker? See this movie...It rocks! Very depressing but powerful and attention grabbing the whole way through.
