NIGHT KITES,
By A Customer
This review is from: Night Kites (Turtleback)
I thought Night Kites was a good book. I usually do not read books, but this book was good to read. I am glad I readed it. The book was about. Erick liked his best friend's girlfriend and she liked him back. But Erick had a girlfriend too. He broke up with his gf to go out with his friends gf Nikki. That would have made me mad. If a friend did that to me. Erick's brother Pete was gay and got AIDS but did not tell anyone at first. Pete told his mom. He trusted her not to tell anyone. At the end of the book. Erick lost his bestfriend Jack and his new girlfriend Nikki because her father find out that his brother had AIDS and he did not want her around him anymore. YOU SOULD READ THIS BOOK. YOU WOULD REALLY LIKE IT.

Well-written, serious teen drama,
By Matt Hetling "Matt" (Bethel, ME USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night Kites (Paperback)
This is a serious teen drama novel that weaves the very serious issues of hiv and sexual orientation in with a realistic quiltwork of the more typical issues that contribute to teen angst.
Erick is the main character of the book, and it seems like there is no end to his troubles. His perfect big brother, Pete, comes out of the closet as a gay man and then reveals that he's tested HIV positive. This horrifies his straight-laced and traditional parents, who are simultaneously disturbed by their son's sexuality and horrified at the disease that he faces. In the meantime, Erick has other problems. His relationships with his girlfriend Dill and his best friend Jack are threatened when he and Jack's girlfriend, Nicki, develop romantic feelings for each other. Nicki is an strong, loner character who hides a secret vulnerability behind an aggressive brassiness and sexuality. On the one hand, this book's plot seems like an after-school special tailor-made to deal with the issues that teens face. On the other hand, M.E. Kerr brings a strong, professional touch to the writing, and the characters are deeper and more realistic than you would find in a made-for-TV deal. I think that the love triangle and the realism might make this an entertaining read that will be more digestible than a straight story about the more serious stuff would be.

Erick finally learns the true meaning of family being first.,

This review is from: Night Kites (Turtleback)
The story "Night Kites" by M.E. Kerr takes place in a small town in New York called Seaville. It is a realistic story but a misadventure at the same time. Erick, the main character is 17 years old and has red hair. He has an older brother called Pete. Erick's girlfriend is Dill, she is a tomboy. jack is Erick's best friend they have been friends since they were young. Jack is 17 as well. His girlfriend is Nicki and she has blond hair, blue eyes and always dresses in seductive clothes. Nicki is a very attractive girl and sometimes it's hard for Erick to take his eyes off her, or is she the one who can't take her eyes of him?I liked this story a lot. It is very realistic. The author expresses the idea of family being first when they need help and that you should help them because they would be there for you. I recommend this book to teens. I wouldn't recommend it for younger readers since they probably wouldn't understand the story and because of that they wouldn't be able to enjoy the story. If you haven't read the book yet I strongly suggest you start reading it. I give this story "Two spirited thumbs up".

I wrote this monologue on Night Kites. The speaker in the monologue is Erick, the main character. His subject is his brother Pete. Hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.Have you ever seen a kite flying in the humbled night?

Was a great high school read!,

This review is from: Night Kites (Paperback)
As I was posting reviews for a few of my favorite books, I remembered a book I had read long ago. When I was in high school I didn't read for pleasure...I only read when I had to. I did a book report on this book by M.E. Kerr. I was delighted to find that I enjoyed the book. In fact I read it in one day! This book has stuck with me, even until today. I was so impressed with the writing style of this author. I felt like she placed me right in the middle of the story! The characters were so colorful. I can still see them in my mind. The story is a wonderful "coming of age" novel. It caught my attention at age 15. That's why I still think this is a great read. In fact, I just may read it again. I would highly recommend this to readers of all ages.

Very good book. It deals with subjects that affect teens today. This is a very real book, but may not be for anyone under 13.

Pretty cool,
This review is from: Night Kites (Paperback)
Hey, I'm not really into books at all, and I wouldn't even read them if it wasn't for summer reading. Well, I picked this one up because it had 5th grade reading level, easy A. I didn't expect it to be any good, just a book to get the grade. Well, I was pretty much wrong, like I said, I don't read much, but I finished this in two days. The plot isn't what I expected; a boring teen book made for teens by an adult. It really gets you involved with the characters. It will pull you into it's world. It all flows naturally. I don't care for the ending, but it really makes you think. Good for a non reader, or reader.

CHECK IT OUT THIS IS A REALLY GOOD BOOK!!!!!!,

This review is from: Night Kites (Paperback)
The book that I am reading is Night Kites. The book is fiction, which I really enjoy reading. So far in the reading the charters grab your attention. This book sort of pulls you in; my personality is like just like Dills so far I am only on page 54. I can definitely tell in Chapter 3 that Eric's brother had something wrong with him. I can sense that someone else might be sick. Or perhaps maybe Eric and Nikki might be together, after you have to admit Nikki does flirt with him lot. I like how much the book empathizes Eric's character. He is very plain in every way rather than he's Brother Pete. I like Petes character because he is very dangerous and I absolutely love his personality. Actually he reminds me of my brother; you know more about the book than what I do. I don't usually read books because they never interested me, but this book dose. I LOVE IT. EVERBODY SHOULD READ THIS BOOK.

I read this book when I was a sophomore or Junior in High School, which was eight or nine years ago. I've thought about it many times since, and was so happy to finally find the title again! You wont regret this one!
