5.0 out of 5 stars "Night Light"... A Great Sequel to Blackstock's "Last Light"

3.0 out of 5 stars night light
certainly made me think, most of us cannot imagine life without electricity, but here we have people who learn to manage. I don't think I would have done as well as them.

"NIGHT LIGHT" is the second book in author Terri Blackstock's current "RESTORATION" series. It is a truly great sequel to her compelling "LAST LIGHT," which launched this gripping saga of what might happen in the event that this earth were to suddenly, and inexplicably, lose its sources of power and communications...no electricity, no telephones, few operational motor vehicles...all of our 'taken-for-granted' conveniences stripped from our lives--with no idea as to when, or if, they will ever be reinstated. Will today's generation cope as well, having lost these 'entitlements,' as the generations before us functioned without ever having, nor expected, marvels such as those to which we've grown accustomed? And how is God perceived during such a time of crisis? Is He indifferent to our problems, or might this be a way for Him to capture our attention, when some have been oblivious to the ruler of our universe, having been lulled into a state of complacency as we've relied more and more upon technology as our source of power and problem-solving? As I wrote when reviewing "LAST LIGHT," those who have read any of Terri Blackstock's more than two-dozen books can attest to the undeniable fact that she is truly an extraordinary writer. Her suspenseful novels meet or exceed the best of this genre, while remaining true to her deeply held Christian faith (her books are always '...lovingly dedicated to the Nazarene'). We eagerly look forward to the third "RESTORATION" novel...and all of Ms. Blackstock's future books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first one, December 28, 2006

The first book in this series is so good, I wasn't sure how Terri Blackstock could top it. But she did. She really managed to flesh out some of the characters a little more, and give us some real insight into their personalities, hopes, and dreams. I like the way she's making the character Deni grow up right before our eyes. She's becoming someone I'd like to know instead of someone I'd like to throttle, like in the first book... LOL

The part of the story surrounding the four children was even emotionally difficult to read because of the realism. (But don't let that stop you!) The older brother is another character she fleshed out quite well.

As always, I would recommend any book by Terri Blackstock. If you're looking for realistic adventure/drama that is clean and edifying to read, she's your author. I appreciate the way she always weaves in some strong spiritual growth into her character's lives. I'm looking forward to future books in this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book, August 24, 2006
Terri Blackstock has done it again. This book made me think of the end of time... when we all must come together... trust in God for our needs and know he will provide as he says in scripture. What an awesome book and ending!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really lifelike, made me a believer!, July 23, 2006

These two books are so well written, I would find myself thinking, "I want to read some more, too bad it is dark and there is no power", and related things. I cannot get enough of this author and these books. A must read for anyone who loves mysteries, real-like scenarios (the what ifs), and Christian Fiction in general. I have not finished Night Light and already cannot wait for the next one!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great second chapter to the series!, August 4, 2006

I really loved this next book and now can't wait for the third book in this Restoration series. In this book, services and functions improve a bit (using pre-computer technology) and the people become very practical. Concerns of left-behind children, etc. come into the picture.

Excellent series and kind of comforting to know we can survive a crisis of this type.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terri does it again!, March 8, 2007

Having been "in the dark" following Hurricane Rita, I really identified with the story line. I didn't think Terri could top the first one in the series. Wrong! There are a lot of life-lessons to be learned through the series. Frighteningly realistic, extremely eye-opening, and the great story line continues. Well done! (We have even used some of the tips to prepare for our next "in the dark" experience)

5.0 out of 5 stars incredible book, December 11, 2006
A Kid's Review
This is the book to buy! I loved it. Terri Blackstock has always been one of my favorite authors and can't put her books down once I've started. Also, I love how she always manages to weave in the spiritual side, that trusting in God is the only way to go. This is one of my favorites!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first!!!!, May 6, 2011
Ms. Blackstock did a fantastic job with this, the second book in the series. It kept me reading late into the night. The promotion of compassion over our personal "rights" is what the Gospel is all about, and she wrapped the concept around a delightful story line that raises the ante on what she started with book one. A definite must read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Night Light - Becoming Light to a Darkened World, February 24, 2011
By
Dawn Kurtz "Victorian Gal" (Barberton, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
Night Light is the second book in Terri Blackstock's four book Restoration series and sequel to Last Light. God's amazing love shines once again through the Banning family when they take in four orphaned children who are abandoned by their drug-addict mother. Doug Banning must convince the oldest of the children, who trusts no one, that he really cares about them and does not have ulterior motives. Opportunity presents itself before long and God's love shines into the young child's heart. This restoration series is so close to what really could happen that it makes one stop and think. It challenges our own definition of what it means to be a Christian. I can't wait to find out where Terri takes this story in book 3 - True Light. I highly recommend this series for all who call themselves followers of Christ and who are concerned with the condition of this world. God put us on this earth to make a difference and we can do it - one person at a time, working within our sphere of influence. Cudos to Terri Blackstock's insight into the last days before the coming of Christ.

This was the 2nd book in the Restoration Series by Terri Blackstock. It was as good as the 1st book. I have since finished with the last 2 books, True Light and Dawn's Light and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Very gripping and inspiring. I've often wondered and especially lately with all that's going on in the world, what I would do if everything we use everyday was taken from us by some sort of catastrophe. These books show how we can and more importantly will adapt to whatever happens as long as we have GOD at the center of our life.
