LRB 2004 is ONLY a great "Covers" Band .. FULL STOP!!,
By CT (Vancouver) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Night In Mississippi (Audio CD)
Reading all the reviews up to date, tells me 3 things: 1. The reviewers haven't heard the CD or seen the DVD Birtles Shorrock Goble "Full Circle"...go listen GUYS then rethink !!! 2. There are NOT ONE original or near Original members in the Current LRB...LRB now is living off the the LRB Name... 3. Who wrote 95% of the HITS ...not the current band but Birtles, Shorrock and Gobles !!!! So guys listen to the Original Singer and composers, instead of listening to in actual fact "Covers" version of the SONGS and BAND!!! Listen to the original albums...then listen to this new CD and then listen to Full Circle..then tell me who are are the REAL LRB??? It's only legal reasons that the current band has the LRB name!!! Try this...Imagine if Mick and co are not in Rolling Stones 2004 ..would you say the band is still Rolling Stones!!! or if Don, Glen & co are not in Eagles now, would you still call them the Eagles??? it would be "Sacrilegious"!! Glen Shorrock's voice is Original...So do yourself a BIG favour...go listen to BSG "Full Circle"

Simply a great CD,

Simply a great CD: you owe it to yourself to buy it. Great tunes, artfully fresh even when Classics, and a top quality sound throughout. There are few CD's that I will play end to end: this one makes the cut. Road trip in the future? Whether it be the tunnels into Manhattan, or cruising I-20 past the monuments of Vicksburg, or winding back from Santa Cruz, you now have great music to be with you, wherever you are.

The real facts about little River Band albums.,
By A Customer
This review is from: One Night In Mississippi (Audio CD)
. . . Little River Band did not release 19 albums(as one poster claimed)and this tribute group's dreadful album is not by the real original band.Little River Band was formed in 1974 and released twelve albums-"Little River Band,After Hours,Diamantina Cocktail,Sleeper Catcher,First Under The Wire,Backstage Pass,Time Exposure,The Net,Playing To Win,No Reins,Monsoon and Get Lucky".Any other releases were simply compilation albums(greatest hits etc).None of the originals play or sing on this album.Minor backing players Steven Housden and Wayne Nelson, who joined eight years after the band was formed, wrote none of LRB's 13 US Billboard top forty hits.Steven has been in the tribute band for many years, not the real band.Fans should also note that this tribute band's owner took court action to prevent the original three founding members(Goble,Shorrock and Birtles)from reforming as the real LRB and recording a new album.A truly despicable thing to do that has penalised the original band's fans. This tribute band did not "morph" from the original, the present owner simply bought the rights to the LRB name after the original band split up.If you want the real band's albums then check out those listed above or get the greatest hits albums like "Reminiscing,The Twentieth Anniversary Collection".But read the reviews carefully to avoid this tribute band imposing their(so far)two albums onto you.

This is not the real little River Band,
By
This review is from: One Night In Mississippi (Audio CD)
Fans are entitled to know that this is not the real original little River Band. This recording is by a tribute band. The album does not have the original lead singer or any of the founding members and it does not sound at all like the original band.Buy it at your own risk. It's a bit like former Beatles drummer Pete Best releasing an album as "The Beatles",although as outrageous as that seems,at least Pete Best WAS an original founding member of The Beatles whereas the members of this weak and insipid LRB tribute band were definitely not. They have just hijacked someone else's legacy, which is disgraceful.

The Tradition Continues,
By Lawrence Smith (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Night In Mississippi (Audio CD)
In looking over some of the previous reviews submitted to this site it pained me to see pot shots being taken at the makeup of the present band. While it is true that this band is not original, they are the LRB as it has morphed over the years. And they are very good. I have heard this album and seen them in 2002 concert and I can truthfully say, as a die hard LRB fan I was on my feet the entire time. As for the album in question, it represents the best of LRB captured in a dynamic environment. Anyone who has appreciation for the continuation of the LRB's legacy will no doubt like what they hear.

Cover Band Garbage! Buyer Beware!,
By CALLAHAN "HARRY" (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Night In Mississippi (Audio CD)
After seeing all the reviews here and then listening to this CD vs. the Beeb Birtles, Gleen Shoorock, Graham Goble CD & Live DVD "Full Circle"......THIS BAND IS IMPOSTERS, A COVER BAND, and NOT THE ORIGINAL LITTLE RIVER BAND at all!! This is my opinion on the matter. It'd be like saying there is a new Beatles Recording because Rigno Starr perfomed on it, and Ringo went and called his fake new band The Bealtes. And actually, another reviewer is 100% correct. This band contains NO ORIGINAL LRB memebrs from the heyday of all their hits. I think it is a shame that this cover band of imposters gets away legally somehow with keeping the name of the band when there is no original members in this line up. Especially because they kept the other original Little River Band memebers (Birtles, Shoorock & Goble) from touring and basically dissed all the orginal LRB fans. This band might be ok musically, but no where near as talented as the original members that played on the REAL Little RIver Band Live recording "Backsatge Pass" or the 2003 Birtles, Shoorock & Goble's "FUll Circle" CD & DVD. Ths fake cover band couldn't dream of performing live the orignal band's song "Light Of Day".

Don't know about the politics of the band--who's in, who's out. What I can tell you is One Night in Mississippi is an excellent CD--enjoyable, well-mixed, good balance of what a live CD ought to have. If anyone can listen to Who Made the Moon and not be moved, he/she must have no heart. Truly a beautiful song, and worth the price of the album all by itself. Don't care if you like the rest of the album or not--however, I did.

A live CD worth spinning,
By A Customer
This review is from: One Night In Mississippi (Audio CD)
Although I've frequented more concerts than I can remember, I am not a fan of concert CDs, but I do give this one heavy rotation. This is a quality release with its clarity of sound (spoken & sung vocals, instrumentals). Audience responses and verbals do not overwhelm the music. The release contains the harmonies and musicianship that the icon Little River Band represents (regardless of its incarnation). Segues are well paced. The set includes a mix of old classics and recent tunes (1999 to present). Musically, there is a mixture of things on this CD that appeal to me, including variety with the lead vocals. While the genre of soft rock is not what I prefer at live concerts, my taste for faster and harder rock is treated with drummer Kevin Murphy leading their latest rendition of "It's Not A Wonder." I am further treated to the catchy bubblegummy "I think I Left My Heart With You," with guitarist Greg Hind singing lead. The tune is more bubblegum-apparent, however, in its studio version than in the concert mixes; live, the tune is heavier on guitar and has more of a rock flavor. While I do get tired of hearing "the classics," certain songs I connected to in childhood are never let go, and I continue to love them regardless of who covers them -- included is "Reminiscing." For anyone who is a fan of what the icon LRB represents -- superlative harmonies, top musicianship, a tight band, etc., "One Night in Mississippi" is a worthy addition to one's library. It's a must have for anyone who is a fan of the band... and I agree with their die hards that this release does not compare to seeing and hearing them live.

Still a Great Band,
By
This review is from: One Night In Mississippi (Audio CD)
Much has been said about whether this is the origninal band or not. All I can say is that they are still a great band. I have seen them live recently and they blew the place down. There is a difference between a group of guys suddenly creating a band and saying they are the Little River Band and a group that has been together for years and the members have just changed. The Little river Band never really disbanded. They've just had some major changes in the line up. Wayne Nelson joined the band in 1980 and sang lead on some of their biggest hits like "Take it Easy On Me", "The Night Owls" and "Man On Your Mind"; all which appeared on the album TIME EXPOSURE. Steve Housden did not play on the album, but did play on that tour. Both are still with the current line up--and both sound great. The current Little River Band is NOT a tribute band. True, it is not the original band from the 70's, but they do have two members from their most successful years in the 80's. Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles and the other original members quit and new members joined to form today's Little River Band. Other bands such as YES has changed it's line up as much or more, and no one calls them a tribute band. Why call the Little River Band a tibute band, then? Just play the samples a judge for yourself. If you are dead set on hearing the original 70's line up of the Little River Band, then this album in not for you. But if you want to hear some great music from a great band that brings's back fond memories, then you should buy this album.

Save your money and don't buy this CD. If you're looking for a live CD by the REAL Little River Band, pick up "Backstage Pass". "One Night In Mississippi" was recorded by a band of imposters - not one member was an original band member. The classic LRB harmonies are not here - pass on this CD.
