Book Description

July 1, 2002 Zebra Romantic Suspense
No one creates heart-stopping romantic suspense like Janelle Taylor. Now, the New York Times bestselling author delivers the compelling, passionate tale of a couple fighting to protect the child who has brought them together--and plunged their lives into danger...

No One To Trust

Single D.C. caterer Jordan Curry has no idea what to do with a four-year-old boy, but she does know one thing: her best friend Phoebe says her son is in mortal danger. Before vanishing into a stormy night, Phoebe entrusts Jordan with her child's life--and makes her swear not to tell a soul where he is. At first, keeping imaginative Spencer occupied seems more difficult than keeping him safe, especially when handsome architect Beau Somerville pops up unexpectedly. Jordan half expects Beau to run in the other direction, but he seems drawn to the boy. Before long, Jordan finds herself falling for Beau's gentle strength--a strength she needs to trust when she hears that Phoebe has been brutally murdered...

Nowhere To Hide

Beau understands what it means to protect your family. He failed that duty once, and the price has haunted him always. Now, he'll do whatever it takes to keep Jordan and Spencer safe from the shadowy stranger who has started asking questions. . .following them...getting far too close. Spiriting woman and child away to a deserted house on the Outer Banks, Beau gives them a chance to forget grim reality, to spend time together--almost as a family. But they soon realize that they might not be alone at the isolated seaside haven. With the weather turning ominous and no way back to the mainland, Beau fears that he may have delivered them all into the hands of a cold-blooded killer...

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Writing in a style uncluttered by romance clich‚s and trite descriptions, Taylor (In Too Deep) delivers a well-crafted romantic suspense set in Washington, D.C. When Jordan Curry's best friend, Phoebe, asks Jordan to take care of Spencer, her four-year-old son, for a while, Jordan doesn't hesitate, even though Phoebe's ominous parting words "Nobody can know he's here... it's a matter of life and death" leave Jordan confused and on edge. Jordan, a successful caterer, hasn't a clue how to feed or entertain a small child, so she turns to her blind date, wealthy workaholic Beau Somerville, for pointers. Beau, whose wife and son died when he lost control of the small plane he'd been piloting, is willing to help, but he doesn't want to get emotionally involved. He manages to keep his distance until he learns that Spencer's parents have been murdered and it appears that Jordan and Spencer are next on the killer's hit list. In an effort to keep them safe, and to help himself come to terms with the loss of his own family, Beau moves Jordan and Spencer to a remote beach house where his protective skills are put to the test. Although the suspense in this offering is on the thin side, well-drawn characters and a richly developed romantic subplot more than make up for the loss.

From Booklist

Jordan's best friend, Phoebe, begs her to take care of her four-year-old son, Spencer. Jordan knows that Phoebe's attorney husband has defended members of the underworld, but she doesn't believe it's a matter of life and death as her friend claims. When Phoebe and her husband's lifeless bodies are fished out of the water, however, Jordan realizes that Spencer's stories about an evil pirate are more than just figments of his imagination. Meanwhile, Beau has been struggling with guilt over the death of his wife and child. After meeting Jordan, he once again finds himself in the position of protecting someone, and he's not sure he's up to it. Not content to endanger Jordan, Beau, and Spenser only with a murderer who has no qualms about killing children, Taylor places this unfortunate trio in double jeopardy when a major hurricane hits. A brave man and woman risk everything to save a little boy in this spine-tingling tale of suspense that will appeal to fans of Iris Johansen and Elizabeth Lowell. Shelley Mosley

3.0 out of 5 stars A great suspense with lukewarm romance......, January 21, 2003
This review is from: Night Moves (Zebra Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
NIGHT MOVES was a romantic suspense that I picked up with high expectations. Needless to say, I was dissapointed, but I would recommend this book to those who enjoy more suspense than romance.

Jordan Curry's life-long friend drops her four year old son off in the middle of the night with instructions not to tell anyone where he is. It is a matter of life and death.

Beau Somerville is an architect who was set up on a blind date with Jordan. When he waits and the restrurant and she doesn't show he goes by her house, thinking that he got the day wrong.

Beau is immediatley drawn to the small boy who reminds him so much of the son he lost. Ms. Taylor takes us on the journey of Beau, who is trying to overcome his demons and trying not to let Jordan and Spencer down. Jordan doesn't want to be involved with anyone, but finds herself reluctantly attracted to Beau. Chaos ensues when a hitman is trying to find Spencer after murdering his parents.

I thought Beau was a little to weak for a hero of a romantic suspense. Jordan let Spencer hurt her feelings a little too often. And Spencer acted way to old for a four year old.

I keep a pile of books to trade and books to keep and re-read. This one will get traded in.

4.0 out of 5 stars exciting romantic intrigue, July 8, 2002
This review is from: Night Moves (Zebra Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
Out of the blue, Phoebe, her best friend from her Pennsylvania hometown, arrives at Jordan Curry's DC home. Jordan would do anything for Phoebe, her former maid of honor who helped her get through being jilted at the alter. However, Phoebe's request is a shocker especially since the woman provides no explanation as to why. Phoebe begs Jordan to watch her four-year-old son Spencer for a while. Jordan agrees assuming that Phoebe's desperate need has something to do with the work of her spouse Reno.

Soon afterward, Jordan's blind date Beau Somerville arrives. Seeing the kid shakes Beau up as it reminds him of his loss, that of his wife and child. When the media announce the murders of Phoebe and Reno with the disappearance of their child, Beau decides to help Jordan keep Spencer safe. As they fall in love, a stalker closes in on the little boy, leaving two adults with no time to ponder their baggage obtained from the past as the demon haunts Spencer in the present.

Night Moves is an exciting romantic intrigue that is brimming with action. Jordan is an intrepid heroine who conquers her fears to do the right thing. Though why Beau got involved is not as easy to accept, fans will feel for a traumatized Spencer, whose apprehension of an attack seems so real that the audience will want to comfort him. Though the romance takes a back seat to the suspense, readers will delight in Janelle Taylor's latest thriller.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little boring, October 24, 2007
This review is from: Night Moves (Zebra Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was looking for a new mystery/thriller to read and decided on this author. The book is OK but it seems that there are only the 3 people in the whole book. It's gets a little boring just dealing with the same characters, things seem to be drawn out as well. I don't think I would buy any of her books but would probably check them out thru the library. I am really struggling to get thru each chapter because there is no action going on there.
