Probably the best "live" album I own., June 5, 2003
This review is from: Night of Nights Live (Audio CD)
I am usually not a big fan of "live" recordings but I must say that this 2 CD collection imported from Australia is the exception to the rule. It was a huge surprise and absolute joy to discover that The Seekers were alive and well and still performing after all these years.
The Seekers were popular in the U.S. for a time in the mid 1960's but remain extremely popular in their native Australia as well as in the UK. This sensational "live" performance, recorded in 2001 features all of the groups U.S. hits as well as a number of songs that were major hits in England. Enjoy once again the great hits "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World of Our Own" as well as the 1967 smash hit "Georgy Girl". These "live" performances sound just like the original recordings that were made some 35 years earlier! Quite a neat trick! "Night of Nights 'Live'" presents the complete concert from start to finish including all of the "chat". As an amateur musicologist, I was able to pick up on some information that I was not previously aware of. For example, I had always heard that Paul Simon wrote the 1966 classic "Red Rubber Ball" by the Cyrkle. It turns out that Simon was living in London in the mid 1960's and that he actually co-wrote that song with Bruce Woodley of the Seekers. Also, Judith Durham performs a solo rendition of Petula Clarks 1967 hit "This Is My Song" which was written by the legendary comedian Charlie Chaplin when he was in his 70's.
Also included in "The Seekers: Night of Nights 'Live'" are a pair of tunes from the group's 1997 studio album "Future Road". If you are a fan of the Seekers then I can highly recommend that one to you as well. There are only a handful of artists who I would care to listen to for an entire evening at home. The Seekers are one of them. Although the genre is different, their unique sound places them in the company of groups like the Mills Brothers and the Statler Brothers as a joy to listen to. Meanwhile, I continue to maintain that lead singer Judith Durham is one of the premiere female vocalists of the past century. Very highly recommended!

I want to give this CD 10 stars!, May 9, 2005
This review is from: Night of Nights Live (Audio CD)
I remember seeing this cd for sale at the end of a Seekers concert at the Melbourne Concert Hall 2003.Not realizing that it would probably be my most played cd ever.I still play it often 2 years later.
Judith Durhams voice is simply supurb on this, and is so clear.
I love playing those gospel songs and of course the hits.
One of my favorite tracks is "You Can Tell The World".
I doubt anyone could sing that better than Judith. They had a special sound, and on this cd i believe it is at its very best here.
All the hits are here and some sound better than the original.
But they did not make the songs sound too much different than original versions.
Ive been a Seekers fan since i saw them sing at the 1994 AFL grand final.
If you are a Seekers fan and dont have this, get it.
I was only 1 when the Seekers broke up in 1968,but i have been fortunate enough to see them in 2003 and 2004 in concert.
This cd definitly catches them at their best.

The very best, June 28, 2004

If you don't own this CD then you can't call yourself a fan of the Seekers. They are in top form here. The arrangements are a bit fuller than you might expect due to some orchestral arrangements but it never intrudes. Wonderful CD. Get it. You won't be dissapointed.
