5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best "live" album I own., June 5, 2003

This review is from: Night of Nights Live (Audio CD)
I am usually not a big fan of "live" recordings but I must say that this 2 CD collection imported from Australia is the exception to the rule. It was a huge surprise and absolute joy to discover that The Seekers were alive and well and still performing after all these years.
The Seekers were popular in the U.S. for a time in the mid 1960's but remain extremely popular in their native Australia as well as in the UK. This sensational "live" performance, recorded in 2001 features all of the groups U.S. hits as well as a number of songs that were major hits in England. Enjoy once again the great hits "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World of Our Own" as well as the 1967 smash hit "Georgy Girl". These "live" performances sound just like the original recordings that were made some 35 years earlier! Quite a neat trick! "Night of Nights 'Live'" presents the complete concert from start to finish including all of the "chat". As an amateur musicologist, I was able to pick up on some information that I was not previously aware of. For example, I had always heard that Paul Simon wrote the 1966 classic "Red Rubber Ball" by the Cyrkle. It turns out that Simon was living in London in the mid 1960's and that he actually co-wrote that song with Bruce Woodley of the Seekers. Also, Judith Durham performs a solo rendition of Petula Clarks 1967 hit "This Is My Song" which was written by the legendary comedian Charlie Chaplin when he was in his 70's.
Also included in "The Seekers: Night of Nights 'Live'" are a pair of tunes from the group's 1997 studio album "Future Road". If you are a fan of the Seekers then I can highly recommend that one to you as well. There are only a handful of artists who I would care to listen to for an entire evening at home. The Seekers are one of them. Although the genre is different, their unique sound places them in the company of groups like the Mills Brothers and the Statler Brothers as a joy to listen to. Meanwhile, I continue to maintain that lead singer Judith Durham is one of the premiere female vocalists of the past century. Very highly recommended!

I remember seeing this cd for sale at the end of a Seekers concert at the Melbourne Concert Hall 2003.Not realizing that it would probably be my most played cd ever.I still play it often 2 years later.
Judith Durhams voice is simply supurb on this, and is so clear.
I love playing those gospel songs and of course the hits.
One of my favorite tracks is "You Can Tell The World".
I doubt anyone could sing that better than Judith. They had a special sound, and on this cd i believe it is at its very best here.
All the hits are here and some sound better than the original.
But they did not make the songs sound too much different than original versions.
Ive been a Seekers fan since i saw them sing at the 1994 AFL grand final.
If you are a Seekers fan and dont have this, get it.
I was only 1 when the Seekers broke up in 1968,but i have been fortunate enough to see them in 2003 and 2004 in concert.
This cd definitly catches them at their best.

If you don't own this CD then you can't call yourself a fan of the Seekers. They are in top form here. The arrangements are a bit fuller than you might expect due to some orchestral arrangements but it never intrudes. Wonderful CD. Get it. You won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the Best, October 23, 2008
This review is from: Night of Nights Live (Audio CD)
American audiences have not been "big" on the Seekers probably because mixing folk and gospel with pop and rock isn't standard or appreciated here in the States. That's a huge error and this recording proves it. There is something on this CD for everyone--and most listeners will find 99% of it extremely favorable. The quality of the recording is excellent, too--many live albums sound so much like a boom mike hanging in front of the band was the only pickup means--the engineering here is far superior. The Seekers sellout in Australia for a reason----they are really, really excellent, polished musicians. You won't go wrong giving this CD a go!

5.0 out of 5 stars You"ll love this......., April 12, 2007
This review is from: Night of Nights Live (Audio CD)
What a treat for any Seekers fan to own. The sound of this cd set is beautiful. Judith's voice is at it's best, and the guys on their instruments never sounded better. A rare group that sounds every bit as
good live as in the studio. If you are a Seeker fan... get this concert on cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Great Concert By One Great Folk Band, June 29, 2007

I grew up with the music of The Seekers and fondly recall many of their tunes on a regular basis. I often times associate milestones in my life with the music of the times or recall the actions of my youth whenever I hear tunes that relate to my past.

Night of Nights is a recorded reunion tour that puts out there, for all to enjoy, a compendium of Seekers music that will never grow old. Primarily universal folk, rock, calypso and gospel this recording reattaches us old timers with the days of our youth.

Age has not diminished the quality of the music put forth by The Seekers. This live recording just goes to show that sometimes the best get better with age.

If you're 40 years or less in age, your parents would most likely love this as a gift. It is superb.

Would give this a 10 if the system would let me - just excellent! The boy's sound great as usual - and I think there's not a good enough adjective to describe Judith Durham. The song listing above is not what's on the 2 CD's. Here it is:
1-01 You Can Tell The World
1-02 Love Is kind, Love Is Wine
1-03 When the Stars Begin to Fall
1-04 This Train
1-05 Morning Town Ride
1-06 When Will The Good Apples Fall
1-07 Red Rubber Ball
1-08 Puff The Magic Dragon
1-09 I Am Australian
1-10 The Light from the Lighthouse
1-11 Open Up Them Pearly Gates
2-01 I'll Never Find Another You
2-02 Someday One Day
2-03 Walk With Me
2-04 The Shores Of Avalon
2-05 You're My Spirit
2-06 Colors Of My Life
2-07 The Bush Girl
2-08 Myra
2-09 Just A Closer Walk With Thee
2-10 Ten Thousand Years Ago
2-11 This Is My Song
2-12 Keep A Dream In Your Pocket

How do you rate a group who's music is timeless? These folks have been together longer than most of our population is old. They are great; their music is great; they remain friends for more than 45 years and are about to celebrate 50 yrs together. What remarkable people; what remarkable music! Love this group.
