Book Description

July 1, 2005
Faced with the break-up of her marriage and the loss of her small son, Juley Allen decides to take a temporary post as paid companion to an elderly lady. The job will take her to Mexico, to the beautiful Hacienda Morelos, and to an expected reunion with her first love, Charles. Within a short time it has become clear that Charles's feelings towards Juley are as passionate as ever, and their romance is reignited. But a dark cloud looms over their future, a threat which prevents Juley from disclosing her true feelings, and the hidden secrets in her past . . .

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Shortly after her son's birth, 25-year-old Juley is told that she has only a few months to live. With the help of her doctor, she arranges for her baby, James, to be adopted by a loving couple, and then she takes a temporary post as companion to Sarah, an older woman, in order to fill in time until her incapacitation and demise. But life with Sarah is an adventure, especially when she decides on the spur of the moment to visit her sister, Agatha, in Mexico. Discovering that her first love is Agatha's neighbor, Juley, facing death, abandons her principles and engages in a torrid affair even though he is involved with another. Hampson's heartrending story is fraught with passion, drama, and pathos, and she pulls no punches in revealing her characters' faults as well as their more admirable traits, making this a good candidate for readers who enjoy a traditional romance with its attendant emotional upheavals and requisite manipulations.
