Perfect Read-Aloud for Halloween, January 5, 2005
This review is from: The Night of the Paper Bag Monsters (Halloween) (Paperback)
I picked this book up at a thrift sale a few years ago - and have treasured it so much that we're buying another copy from Amazon to last through our next two toddlers. The characters, Alfred and Susie, prepare for a costume contest by making their own costumes from big paper bags. But a simple accident during their efforts turns into a childish tiff - that leaves them creating on their own until the contest that evening. The illustrations are just perfect for younger children and the adult reader. The diaglogue is short but allows for wonderful vocal expression by a read-alouder. It's also great to find a halloweenish book that not the typical pumpkin, witch, trick or treat bit. Just a treasure of a book!
