Feisty characters,

This review is from: One Night of Passion (Avon Romantic Treasure) (Mass Market Paperback)
Georgiana Escott has one night to find a man to ruin her in order to avoid marriage to the old and despicable Lord Harris her Uncle Phinas has arranged a marriage with for her. Knowing she will be subjected to a test to confirm her virginity Georgiana doesn't have much time. She decides to attend the Cyprian's ball where England's most notable rogues are sure to attend. Here Georgie meets the dashing Lord Colin Danvers, who has just been dishonorly charged from his station. Though resistant at first Colin, eventually succumbs to Georgie's aggressive advances. The next morning Colin finds Georgiana gone... Finding out that her guardian and Lord Danvers is one and the same, makes the reunion of the stormy lovers filled with animosity and suspicion. Finding themselves on the same ship with Georginna's baby in tow, their reunion is stormy. Colin suspects Georgiana of being a French spy. Georgina resents Colin for being the mastermind behind her marriage betrothal to Lord Phineas. Their wonderful night of passion remains in their minds however and they find themselves drawn to each other. The book actually has two parts to it, the first being quite light and erotic as the seduction comes to play and the second being more serious once they meet again. The change in Georgina from seductress in the first part to angry and resentful woman in the second part is a hard switch to accept as a reader. I would have enjoyed one or the other, as I had quickly grown quite attached to Georgina in the first section. Overall, this story is a wonderful read, and Elizabeth Boyle introduces feisty characters and an interesting plot.

engaging Regency romance,
This review is from: One Night of Passion (Avon Romantic Treasure) (Mass Market Paperback)
Her guardian whom she has never met signs the document that forces his ward Georgiana Escott to marry a vile old geezer. However, before they wed, her fiancé requires proof that he is marrying a virgin so he hires a physician to examine Georgiana. The night before her nuptial physical, Georgie visits the infamous Cyprian's Ball to insure she fails the test.Branded a traitor, former navy hero Colin Danvers is a man without a country. Needing to escape his troubles, Colin goes to the Cyprian's Ball where he meets Georgie. Both share an incredible night unaware that he is her guardian. Georgie's ploy works in terms of marrying the geriatric, but fails because she cares deeply for her one night stand lover with no hope for a future with him. ONE NIGHT OF PASSION is an engaging Regency romance that picks up steam from the moment Georgie and Colin meet at the ball. From that point on Georgie comes out of her virginity in several ways that make her into a mature individual that the audience will like. Colin is an interesting hero because his disinterest in what happens to his ward fits a person with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Though the story line depends on the coincidence of a rather petite sized world, fans will enjoy Elizabeth Boyle's entertaining historical. Harriet Klausner

A Fun Romance,

This was my first book by this author and I liked it very much! It's a great fantasy to meet up with a handsome rake at the Cyprian's Ball and Miss Boyle takes that fantasy to the max! I knew Georgie wanted to lose her "virtue" to be spared from an arranged marriage but I wasn't sure if she really would go through with her plan to seduce the first scoundrel she found. It was cute how Colin and Georgie met up at the ball, and the sex scenes steamed up right away! There is plenty of adventures to keep things moving in the second half of the book and now I am very interested in seeing what Colin's rascal cousin (Temple) is going to get into in the next book. I also really liked Georgie's sister Kit and hope that she gets her turn sometime too.

One Night of Passion is the story of Georgie Escott. Her sister Kit has stolen a letter off the desk of their uncle that says Georgie is to be married the next day to Lord Harris. This is shocking news to Georgie. She confronts her aunt and uncle and learns that indeed she is to be married to Lord Harris. But, there's one stipulation, Georgie must be untouched. She is due to have an exam the next day to prove she is. She and her sister come up with a plan that is sure to get Georgie out of the marriage. She'll go to the Cyprian Ball and seduce someone to get her out of her marriage. At the ball she meets Colin, who is Lord Danvers, who is her guardian, who signed the papers saying she would marry Lord Harris. Georgie and Colin don't know who each other are but fall in love with each other at first sight. Will her plan to get out of her marrige work? You'll have to read the book to find out! This was such a good book. The story was well written and was easy to read and quick to read. The characters were well written and the plot developed at just the right pace. Everything came together for just the right read for a day spent inside or even a day outside relaxing with a good book. A book to read again and again!

Energized chemistry galvanizes one night of passion,

Subjected to an imminent marriage to the infirm Lord Harris her uncle Phineas has pre-arranged, Georgiana Escott is forced to ruin herself in order to fail the virginity test conducted by her perfidious husband-to-be. The decadent Cyprian's ball arrives timely to suit her scheme - and it is at this fateful event that she falls head over heels for the righteous Colin Danvers who is branded a nefarious traitor by the Admiralty. In a coup-de-theatrics, a brawl ensues between Colin and his arch-rivals who tried to advance on Georgiana. He rescues her and Georgie is all the more determined that Colin is the one to share a night of passion with. It is one year later when they meet with Colin embarking on his espionage mission - and the elusive Georgie bearing his child arouses his love and suspicion of working as a French spy for Bonapartes....Elizabeth Boyle's newest romance sans intrigue bears an uncanny resemblance to the plot of her previous effort Once Tempted. It is thus fortunate that the infectious ebullience of Georgie manages to salvage the coincidence-ridden plotting. Her quick wits and Colin's chivalry make them an intelligent golden couple. One night of passion is thus a fleeting pleasure with the energized duo steering their love voyage out of the fog of deja vu.

I usually enjoy Elizabeth Boyle's books, but ONE NIGHT OF PASSION contains so many inconsistencies, coincidences, and unbelievable events that it detracts from the story. It's not just that the characters do not behave true to their time period, sometimes their actions make no sense at all. It seems to be too hurriedly written and not edited at all!

Heroine thwarts her greedy uncle's plan to marry her off to an elderly 9x-married man for money but with a conditional medical proof of her virginity. She goes to a Cyprian ball to find a rake to rid her off her virginity. She meets an honorable but just-recently discharged captain instead who tries to help her. Finally giving in to heroine's pressures & schemes, Hero has an unforgettable night with heroine only to find her gone the next day. He looks for her everywhere but cannot find her. One year later, they meet again but in suspicious circumstances.
This Boyle book began well. I thought heroine's aggressiveness & craftiness in getting hero to sleep with her was amusing. But she became irritating in latter half of the book. Even though she was the one who put the pressure on Hero having sex with her, she ends up blaming him for being a womanizer & debaucher of innocent after the deed was done. And the book changed focus from the main characters' romance to a spy-action theme. Disappointing. It was hard for me to get through the latter half so I started skipping pages. Nothing changed. I'd skip this one unless you like spy-type romances.

Lord Colin Danvers, has recently been dishonorably discharged, as a traitor from the Royal Navy. Desperate to escape his troublesome thoughts he goes off to a Cyprian's Ball and hopes to be pleasantly distracted. One thing that is clear from the beginning for me was that Colin was not guilty of these charges against him and that he was a highly honorable person.
The most unlikely person to be at the Cyprian's Ball is Georgiana Escott but she is one very desperate lady. Her Uncle Phineas has prearranged a marriage to the infirmed Lord Harris. One of the conditions is Georgie be a virgin and the exam will be the next day. The only solution as Georgie believes is to not be a virgin and what better place to be deflowered than at the Cyprian's Ball. At the ball she meets Lord Danvers, who is unbeknown to her the very guardian, who signed the papers allowing the marriage to Lord Harris. Georgie and Colin do not know who each other are which of course complicates their future relationship. Colin is so very intrigued by this young Cyprian that seems more than interested and willing. He wants to treat her honorably as that is the kind of man he is. But Georgie was determined and sizzling passions ensue and lead to One Night of Passion but the next morning Colin wakes up and the lovely Georgie has disappeared. Georgie was one of the better female characters I have read about recently. She was a take charge girl, who really had a interesting way with words and dealing with situations. She was a challenge for Colin. He just found her so different and they seemed to sizzle right off as two destined for passion. I loved the way they met - the one night of passion they shared that night was totally believable and the way they meet a year later on the shores of France was a perfect way for them to come together again. Georgie would show her uniqueness aboard a ship and also she did have a little surprise for Colin. Neither had forgotten the other and it was not long before they rekindled what they had shared that one night. This is a story about spies and danger but the plot is believable and the romance is not overshadowed by the dangerous mission Colin is on for the Crown. The only problem I had which kept me from five stars is the ending. For me it was a little rushed and in the epilogue I would have appreciated discovering a little more about their life, their children and not that she was just sailing off with him on another secret mission. But all in all I loved this story about two exciting characters that in a night of surprised passion truly found their sole mates! A solid four star book for me and looking forward to many more from Boyle.

The only complaint I have is that in the epilogue they don't even mention the other characters and what they are up to... Hopefully we will get Kit's story after Temple's.
