We picked this book up in the UK recently (different publisher) - it's the new favorite book in our house. My 4 yr old has memorized all the words - can't go to sleep without reading it. Even my 7 yr old will come in when he hears us reading this book. Great for boys and girls (the pirates ARE girls after all). Beautiful illustrations, lovely rhyming, can't say enough good things!

a must for PIRATE picture book lovers!,
This review is from: Night Pirates (Hardcover)
Lovely illustrations take the reader into pirateland; the slowing moving text across the pages makes sleepytime come for certain. We crave anything about pirates and this is a fun bedtime story to add to our list.

Yeah, Girl Pirates!,

We love this book! We are parents who love anything pirate. We were so happy to find a book for our 2-year-old daughter about rowdy girl pirates. Often pirate books are about boys. Its fun that a boy gets to come along on the adventure, but its the girls who are the main protagonists. The illustrations are great too.

It has really cute illustrations, and they shine with the wonderful, just-a-little-bit-exciting text.
Tom's bedroom is invaded by girl pirates, who welcome him aboard their boat when they steal the front of his house for disguise. All the pirates (and Tom) go, they non-violently steal treasure from the grown-up pirates, and Tom ends up back home safe in bed. I have yet to meet a kid who didn't enjoy this book.

there's nothing worse than having your kids ask you to read a book that doesn't flow well, is too wordy, or that's just plain boring. as a teacher and mama, i LOVE this book! it has perfectly cadenced wording, flows very well, and contains our favorite children's book quote: "If you don't give me back my treasure, I'll tell my mummy!!"
JUST BUY IT you won't regret it...even if you don't like pirates. (who doesn't like pirates!?!?!)

Girl pirates in an engaging adventure,

This is one of my favorite children's books (and fortunately my 3-year old son likes it too). The illustrations are original and fun, the story as enjoyable to read, and the heroes are LITTLE GIRL PIRATES who spirit away a little boy on a grand adventure. You can't help but love it!

GREAT Book for your pirate loving kid!,

I bought this book in St Thomas, while on vacation away from my kids. My son who just turned four, loves pirates - so when I saw this book, I knew he would love it. The illustration is beautiful, and the words are so nicely placed - well it just makes it interesting!
I enjoy reading it to my 3 kids, I have 2 girls and one boy, so the fact that the pirates are girls, with one boy pirate, it just makes it fun for everyone! My son has asked me to read this book every night for the past month and a half, and tonight, he read (memorized) the book, and read it to ME! He loves "his" lines, which I cue him to say throughout the book. A fun read - we will enjoy it for many years I am sure!

Wonderful Book,
This review is from: Night Pirates (Book & CD) (Paperback)
The cadence of this book is such that it is easy to memorize. My son has had it memorized since he was 2 and we now say it together almost every night, sometimes without the book. Just a lovely story and cute characters overall.

I recently stumbled across this book at the library and borrowed it since my 4-year old son loves anything pirate-related. He now insists on reading it every night, sometimes more often! He loves that the little girl pirates steal the front of the house, how the little boy gets to join the little girl pirates on their adventure, how the kids steal the treasure from the grown-ups, how the grown-ups are afraid of the kids, how the captain of the grown-ups shouts the curse, "If you don't give us back our treasure, I'll tell my Mommy!" and how the little girl pirates don't put the front of the house back on correctly. He gets the biggest kick out of those last 2 parts!
As a parent, I like how the words flow so smoothly, how easy it is for my son to follow and how it encourages him to use his imagination. I did have to give him the warning after reading it before bed that there were to be no pirate adventures for him that night since he needed his sleep! LOL! I highly recommend this book for other preschoolers!

My son thought is was hilarious that the pirates were little girls pirates! The illustrations by Deborah Allwright are cute and unique with her use of different patterns and textures to her buildings and trees. The words almost rhyme, but not quite and there were a couple spots where I felt like my rhythm got off, but my five yr old didn't notice. :) I also like that it's a short story with great pictures but not at on of reading. Perfect for bedtime!
