Night Ranger - Growin' Up In California

Biography

Night Ranger truly epitomizes the sound of the 80’s while at the same time transcending it. Since their reunion in 1996, they have brought their guitar-crunching, melodic brand of Hard Rock into the 21st century with unparalleled talent, energy and creativity.

Night Ranger’s legendary hits "Sister Christian," "(You Can Still) Rock in America," and "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" are songs that have… Read more in Amazon's Night Ranger Store

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys rock LIVE!, June 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have never lived live recordings when studio choices were available. The Uprising Damn Yankees CD made me think that maybe they weren't all badly mixed noise irritants so I downloaded this and the Live in Japan MP3 album (because I couldn't decide after listening to the promos). I really like them. They are much better than the YouTube alternative (though it would be nice to have a DVD of them playing the concerts still available and affordable). The sound is great and the vocals are great. While studio cuts are still more polished, these guys are really wonderful live and you can tell they still have fun playing. When I look over my other reviews, I am rather appalled that so many of their CDs are out of print. The cuts they play are just too short to give people the real feel for how good Night Ranger still is. If the cuts don't sound good to you, go watch some of the concerts on YouTube and see how much fun they are. I think you'll like this download as much as I do. I like that they had songs from all their albums not just the oldies on this. The title might be a bit misleading. The new music is much funnier and rocking. I can't wait for their new Somewhere in California CD to come out. Watch the YouTube promos. The new song fuses new and old Night Ranger beautifully.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night Ranger never sounded so good!, March 24, 2000

I could not believe how incredible this live cd sounded the first time I heard it. It is incredible! Just look at the track listing! This is one of those cd's that you have to crank, or you won't get the full effect. If you are curious about Night Ranger, or are just looking for a great cd to listen to, here it is! Highlights are: Touch of Madness (rocks!), Sing Me Away, and the acoustic set consisting of Sentimental Street and Goodbye.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night Ranger in your living room., August 6, 1999

Great album! The sound is crisp and clear with no distortion or feedback, like in a lot of live albums. It sounds so good, you'd swear the band was live in your living room, or you were up on stage with 'em! The selection of songs is superior to their old "Greatest Hits" album, since it includes some of their more recent hits. I considered giving this 4 stars simply because I loathe guitar solos on live albums. However, after several listens to the album, I realized that the solos fit well into the context of the concert. They are also mercifully short! Nice to listen to some good, catchy, guitar-driven rock for a change, instead of the drivel being produced today. These kids today don't know what they're missing! If you miss the thumping, fist-in-the-air rock of the 80's, you'll love this album. I highly recommend it (if you can find a copy!)
