This review is from: A Night to Remember (Paperback)
Eve Vaughn's Night to Remember is graphic and not in a detailed way alone but with the explicit dialogue to go with it.

If that will bother you, don't get this book. It will indeed be a turn off.

Having said that, if you have read any of Ms. Vaughn's work you know she is not for the demure of sensibilities. She is raw and this book delivers in spades!!

Charlie Brown is 'celebrating' what should have been her second wedding anniversary with her husband Paul. But as a fireman Paul gave his life in service to save an elderly woman.

Jake Fox is suffering through a business meeting..when it is over he looks up to see a beautiful woman at the bar.

She has been talking to herself and looks miserable. He puts her drinks on his tab and leaves it at that when she walks out of the bar.

Charlie is in no position to drive, but rooms are thin on the ground because there is a convention in town; she is just about to leave to sleep in her car when she backs into the man from the bar. He heard the conversation she had been having with the hotel associate and offers her a place to stay, as his room has two beds.

Later he awakens to hear her crying and one thing leads to another....she leaves in the morning while he is showering and meets him again 3 years later.
I'll stop there as I have no wish to ruin the read for anyone else.

Now, if you have read Harlequin,and/or Mills and Boons, then you have read this book's set-up before: girl in distress, hottie hero to the rescue, girl flees and later meets hottie only now she has a heck of a secret.

What you haven't read is dialogue and sex scenes this real.
The dialogue and the sex are earthy, they are raw and they are hot.

Unlike several of the other reviewers I didn't see it as raunchy, more realistic, it is the stuff you babble when your eyes are rolling in the back of your head; the things you say when you feel as if you have been punched in the solar plexus; the conversations you have with your girlfriend(s) that make you want to say, "No! Did you really just say that?!" But you know she did because y'all have been friends forever and she can be counted on to tell you the truth.

This is what makes this book so awesome for me.

The pacing was excellent, the mood was perfect and the secondary characters made you feel you got the whole story: they added to, not detracted/distracted from, like a lot of the secondary characters can in an I/R book.

Know yourself and then be honest with what you like to read. When the publisher said graphic sex and language they meant it.
But if you are bold, this will be one of the best books you will have read in a while.

Enjoy!!

This review is from: A Night to Remember (Paperback)
On the night of her second anniversary with her late husband, Charlie just wants to drown her sorrows reminiscing about him in a strange bar. She's certainly not looking to meet anyone, much less than handsome Jake.

Jake is captivated by Charlie the moment he first sees her, and fate seems to throw her in his path with each moment. After sharing a night of unforgettable passion, Charlie disappears, unknowingly taking Jake's heart with her.

Three years later finds Charlie unexpectedly working for Jake's company. He's never forgotten her, and is all too ready to rekindle their passion. But will he forgive her when he discovers her long-held secrets?

Eve Vaughn has done a commendable job with character development and plot with her book A Night to Remember. At no time do the lead characters, Jake and Charlie, ever feel like strangers to the reader. The plot is well thought out, and the continuity is sound.

Where this story fails, in my opinion, is in the mechanics. Both the dialogue and the prose are, at times, stilted, reminding the reader they are reading a written story, rather than flowing so naturally you feel as if you are living the story. Add to that the grammatical errors, and the mechanics disrupt the story often, making it difficult to immerse oneself in the story. While not overrun with grammatical errors, they happened often enough to distract. More than once, the word `pursed' was used instead of the word `pursued'. The prose contained repeated, although not plentiful, sentences with clumsy structure.

On top of that, the love scenes came across as coarse and vulgar, instead of hot. While explicit language, when used properly, can be titillating, the language used between the two lovers in A Night to Remember doused what could have been some steamy scenes so that they were only tepid.

That said, Vaughn shows promise with this offering, and managed to move me to tears with two separate scenes towards the end of her book. I am hopeful that future publications by this author will refine the mechanics and allow us to concentrate solely on her story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finding love again after the pain of loss!, July 20, 2007
This review is from: A Night to Remember (Paperback)
Charlie Brown suffered the loss of her husband on what should have been their first wedding anniversary. It's been a long lonely year since then. Rather than spend it alone of with people who would only feel sorry for her Charlie has chosen to drown her sorrows at a bar.

Jake Fox has spent the evening wining and dining potential clients and is thrilled when the meeting is finally over. Jake decides to stay and indulge in another drink as a reward for putting up with the members of the Banner group.

Jake notices Charlie the moment she enters the bar. In fact it's watching her that makes getting through his meeting bearable. When the bartender cuts off her alcohol, she learns that he's taken care of her bar tab but she's in no mood to be courteous and personally thank him, she asks the bartender to take care of that and she leaves and goes to a nearby hotel. All of the rooms are booked and with a convention in town so are the rooms in every motel in the area. Unexpectedly, Jake overhears her conversation with the desk clerk and he has a solution to her problem. He has a room with two double beds and he's willing to share. Sometime during the night he hears her crying and comforts her but their sexual attraction takes over and Charlie asks him to make love with her. The events result in an unplanned pregnancy.

Charlie disappeared from the hotel room while Jake was in the shower and hasn't seen or spoken to him since so he has no clue of what has transpired in her life. It isn't until three years later that fate brings them together again. How will Jake react to Charlie's sudden reappearance in his life? Will he be pleased that he's the father of a two-year-old little girl?

Even Vaughn's A NIGHT TO REMEMBER will have readers experiencing a vast array of emotions. Charlie's an easy character to empathize with - she's a strong woman who's been through a devastating loss but getting through it the best way she can. Jake is a genuinely likeable character. I loved how he was wiling to comfort Charlie when he learns of her loss and he didn't try to take advantage of her. I could hardly wait for his reaction to learning that she carried and gave birth to his daughter without telling him. There's no shortage of sexual tension between Jake and Charlie, but there's a world of emotions and hurt stemming from the past that they'll both have to find a way to get through. Eve Vaughn writes passionate tales that leave readers with a sense of well being, hope and anxiously awaiting her next contribution to the literary world.

1.0 out of 5 stars There are two kinds of escapism/fantasy, October 22, 2010
The kind which though unrealistic is so wonderfully described you happily loose yourself in it. Or the kind which is so unbeleivably ridiculous it insults your intelligence. I am afraid this book falls into the latter category. It started off reasonably well, Charlie Brown (her name is probably the most interesting aspect of this book) sits at a bar, drowning her sorrows on the anniversary of her husbands death. She is too drunk to drive home and unable to get a room to sleep the booze off as the hotel is fully booked. A complete stranger offers her the second bed in his room. What does Charlie do? Well she does not call a cab (or friend) to drive her home. Nope, she happily accepts to lay her drunken self in a strangers hotel room. 'Cos y'know, it's 'chemistry' plus she's psychic and knows for sure he'll not try to rape or kill her. Plus we all know we should never look a gift horse in the mouth. At this point I almost stopped reading but pressed on.
Charlie then proceeds to take off all her clothes and go to sleep nude. Oooookkkkk. During the night she has a nightmare or whatever, he comforts her and they have unprotected sex. Right.
She bails the next day while he is in the shower, utterly 'horrified' 'cos she's just not that type of woman. Yawn. And more yawns as rhe storyline continues to sink downhill faster than a pair of out of control ski's on a steep piste. Throw in a stereotypical tricky relationship with her parents and a 'tell it like it is' friend/sidekick who keep urging Charlie to act like an adult and that pretty much sums up the rest of the story. Meanwhile the couple manage to fall deeply in love. Why they do so in unexplained. They have little to nothing in common (except a child) and when not 'uncontrollably' ('cos it's intense chemistry y'know) falling into bed all Charlie does is bicker and insult him while he acts perplexed by her behaviour.
I really must find another way to pick books on this site because if I go by the ratings I may end up with more duds.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is weak., December 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really want to like this book. The whole concept of boy and girl meet for a one night stand but couldn't get each other our of their mind even years later was leading to a good book. The beginning of the book is really good. But then the story just go down hill where hero characteristic is so weak. He ran home crying to his mom because the girl didn't like him and then ran home crying to mom because he found out he had a kid. Oh and not to mention the best friend sexually harasses the heroine concept, what is that all about? Men don't do that to their best friend's girl. The heroine said no to the hero through the book until the end because she doesn't want to be hurt again. I totally understand she doesn't want to be hurt but that really show any chemistry between the 2 characters. How can you go from no, no, no, no , no to yes I love you and want to be with you? I gave the book a chance but the whole story is so lacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joyfully Reviewed!, March 25, 2008
This review is from: A Night to Remember (Paperback)
It is the one year anniversary of her husband's death. Charlie Brown is at a downtown bar drowning her sorrows, hoping against all hope that her pain will go away; at least for one night. Many whiskeys later, the bartender advises her to get a room at the hotel next door. Charlie is a bit too tipsy to argue with him and decides that a hotel room sounds more appealing than going home to her empty home.

Jake Fox is tired of whining and dining prospective clients and is ready to go home. Jake decides to stick around the restaurant for one more drink after his clients leave and he can't help but look once again at the beautiful woman across the bar. She seems to be very sad and Jake almost goes over to her but figures that she might not relish the company. Plus, he needs to go back to his hotel and sleep since he has booked an early flight home.

Lady luck seems to be on Jake's side because when he walks into his hotel's lobby, the same gorgeous woman is trying to get a room and is being turned away. Hearing this, Jake nonchalantly offers her the use of the other bed in his hotel room. Surprisingly, she accepts. Exchanging names, she and Jake head to his room. It is while crying her heart out, Charlie wakes Jake up who in turn comforts her in a most erotic and romantic fashion.

The next morning, Charlie can't believe what she has done. While Jake is in the shower, she slips out of his life as fast as she snuck in. However, this time she takes a little something of Jake along with her.

Jake searches for Charlie but to no avail. For three years he remembers his night with Charlie Brown; he can't make himself forget. Imagine his surprise when his employee turns out to be Ms. Charlie Brown and Ms. Brown evidently has a secret that she has kept for three years.

A Night To Remember by Eve Vaughn packs an emotional punch. Totally in tune with Charlie's heart ache and sadness, I cried right along with her at times. In fact, I despaired her ever finding any happiness and I have to say that I was ecstatic that Jake was a bit more stubborn than she. Jake Fox --Sinfully handsome and sexy personified. I found him a most worthy man; especially when he found out Charlie's secret. I fell in love with him but alas, he only had eyes and love for Charlie.

A Night To Remember is the first book I ever read by Eve Vaughn. It is because of this, that I read any and everything this talented author writes. It grabs you from the first word and doesn't let up. I adore this book and think that other readers will as well. An added plus is the fact that it has been revamped from the original version for its new release at Samhain. It is just a winner all the way around so much that I can't help but joyfully recommend it!

This book is awesome! It is recommended for those readers with family. Life is not a bed of roses but this is what every woman wishes for in the end of the day. It is very touching and emotional especially at the end of the story. I couldn't help crying but luckily it ended happily.

My husband saw me crying while reading this book and asked me to tell him what was it about? He was surprised to see me got so emotional over it. I told him about Jake and how he cherished Charlie and Cristy, etc.... I am married for 25 years and with 3 loving and obedient children. We have been through a lot of hardship, building up our business. I got to take good care of my husband's bad health (he was borned with heart problem). My husband was from a poor family and life was not easy for him during childhood till young adulthood.

But, I am very lucky to marry a caring, loving and hardworking husband. We are happy with our achievement today! God is fair and nothing comes easy without any sacrifices. So, our lady friends out there, do not give up any hope to find your own happiness! I salute to our writer Miss Eve Vaughn for writing such a beautiful story. I give you a 5 stars! Thank you!!!

This review is from: A Night to Remember (Paperback)
Disclosure: I didn't finish reading because I absolutely could not take this book.

1. Starts On An Iffy Note: The circumstances and nature of the first encounter between our characters(Jake and Charlie) was off-putting-I mean there were so many red flags it didn't really make sense why Charlie felt compelled to go with a perfect stranger to a hotel.

2. Lame Characters: From the get-go Jake was inexplicably enamored with Charlie and obsessed about her after their first meeting when there was(imo) zero basis for these feelings shown in the book. It really weakened him as a male lead for me. Charlie was flawed as well. She's fragile, which is to be expected after losing her first husband, but she's also immature, grating, and just generally eye-roll inducing. The relationship between Charlie and Jake lacked chemistry, probabaly because they lacked any commonalities( save one).

3. Awkward.Stilted. Dialogue:Oftentimes I found myself re-reading passages and scratching my head. Do people really talk like this? Is that considered sexy? DNW

4. Graphic Love Scenes Don't Always Make For A Hot Read: This is especially the case when the author fails to establish and emotional connection between the two involved. That was the situation with this book and it just made me feel like uggggh... What am I reading?

A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Night to Remember (Paperback)
A night to remember would have been more memorable had so much vulgarity not have been used. I almost returned the book but it seemed like a good love story once I got past the raunch... It takes away from the love of the story. Here is a man willing to scarifice his heart for the main woman in his life. If she was really his soulmate he could have done it without the vulgarity. If she was a lady she wouldn't have always talked raunchy. It didn't jibe with how she carried herself but look we're all entitled to spew a bad word or to in the heat of a moment. Once I got past the vulgarity (sewer talk) it was a good read and a great lesson.

I enjoyed this interractial love affair. The characters were lovable and endearing. The plot was good with its brief twists and turns. I couldn't really understand why the male character's sister felt so unforgiving for a mistake that was trying to be corrected. All in all I would defintely recommend this book because the sex was also on the money( tres hot). I'm defintely going to read more books coming from Eve Vaughn.
