Under Rated Star,
By Cliff (Canton, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night To Remember (Audio CD)
Joe Diffie is the most under rated male country singer today. He may not be real flashy, but few can come close to matching his great voice. If you don't own any of his CDs, get this one, I'll bet you will order his others after you hear it. Try to catch Joe live too, his show is great!

An album to remember,
By R.A.M. Verheyden (huubpee@wish.net) (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night To Remember (Audio CD)
I bought this album for the title track. Because country isn't that big in Europe, I have to pay 20 dollars or more for an album (record companies don't see a market for country here, so they don't release country singles). So instead of just buying the CD-single, I get a better value-for-money if I buy the entire album through Amazon. I ordered it with a batch of other country albums (Steve Wariner, Ty Herndon and Brad Paisley), and I really didn't have high hopes about this one (bar the title track). I must say that after hearing them all through, I found this album to be the best of the bunch. By now you'll probably have guessed I like "A night to remember", but there are many more good songs on it. "I'm the only thing I'll hold against you" is one such track. I can't understand the lyrics though: the title implies anger about a cheating lover and it starts out that way in the first verse. Then he forgives her and takes her back, taking part of the blame himself! Talk about love, but this makes the story a bit unbelievable. "The quittin' kind", the new single, has a great guitar riff which livens up the song (and the album). The next track "Better off gone" starts off too slow, but the great chorus makes up for this. Another great song is "It's always something", which is one of my favourites. Are you still with me? Okay, next highlight is "Are we even yet?", about two lovers who constantly keep making each other's lives miserable just for the fun of it. Last of the good ones is the very cynical "Don't our love look natural?", which is somewhat ruined by a country growl in the line "It faded in its prime". A tiny bit over the top. Only drawback: at just over 34 minutes, the album is too short. I know vinyl is still big in the States, but even an LP can hold more music than that!

A good mix of Country with a few great upbeat songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Night To Remember (Audio CD)
I dont know what the reviewer was thinking when he said a 'couple' of good songs. I rarely find a CD in which I could enjoy 9 out of 10 songs on the first listen, unless of course its a greatest hits album. I bet at least 2 other songs will be on CMT or across the radio waves after "A Night to Remember". One of them is track 4 "The Quittin' Kind' which is an excellent upbeat song. The other is track 5 "Better off gone" which is a slower song that picks up on the chorus, really making it great. This is my first review because I really dont like to take the time for this, but I just HAD to back this CD because its obvious Joe Diffie put a lot of work into this one.
