Book Description

January 4, 2011 A Blood Coven Vampire Novel (Book 5)
After their parents' shocking revelation about their fae heritage and an attack on their lives, the McDonald twins are forced to hide out deep in the Swiss Alps at Riverdale Academy, a secret vampire slayer training facility. And with no way to contact their vampire boyfriends for rescue, they're going to have to play nice with the locals.

But when Sunny starts acting strange, Rayne realizes that there's more to fear at Riverdale than getting staked by the student body-leading to a showdown in Fairyland that may cost the twins their lives.

About the Author

Mari Mancusi used to wish she could become a vampire back in high school. But she ended up in another blood sucking  profession—journalism—instead. Today she works as a television news producer for the NBC station in Boston and has won two Emmys for her work. As if writing and TV producing weren't enough to keep her busy, Mari also enjoys snowboarding, clubbing, shopping, 80s music, and her favorite guilty pleasure—video games. She lives in the Boston area with her husband and two dogs.

More About the Author

Mari Mancusi always wanted a dragon as a pet. Unfortunately the fire insurance premiums proved a bit too large and her house a bit too small--so she chose to write about them instead. Today she works as an award-winning young adult author and freelance television producer, for which she has won two Emmys. When not writing about fanciful creatures of myth and legend, Mari enjoys goth clubbing, cosplay, watching cheesy (and scary) horror movies, and her favorite guilty pleasure--playing videogames. A graduate of Boston University, she lives in Austin, Texas with her husband Jacob, daughter Avalon, and their dog Mesquite.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous continuation of the Blood Coven series. February 20, 2011
By Erica
Format:Paperback
I think this was my favorite book in the series yet! This was another Rayne narrated book, and differing from my prior dislike to her character, I thought Rayne really branched out in this book. It was a book full of many twists and turns, I could never guess where Mancusi was taking readers.

The characters in Night School were a mix. I felt some of the characters were undeveloped while others really grew and developed more. Headmistress Roberta felt very unreal to me, and I didn't get much grasp of her as a person. Rayne on the other hand, grew a lot and some of her immaturity issues I had problems with in the past disappeared. The addition of new characters adds a lot to this great series.

The plot in Night School constantly had me guessing! I wasn't able to guess as all where it was going. Mancusi threw in so many twists, I was constantly surprised, and I absolutely love the direction the story went off in. I really like how this series isn't strictly vampires but throughout the books have incorporated other paranormals. It's a lot of fun to read.

I can't wait for the next book, Blood Ties. After the epic ending of Night School, Blood Ties is sure going to be good! I love how this series constantly gets better and better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night School January 21, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is book #5 in the Blood Coven series and I love them all. In this book, Sunny and Rayne find out that they have fairy blood in them and they need to hide from the fairies who are after them. I love the tongue in cheek writing style--humorous but real all at once. Rayne is a tough vampire slayer who also happens to be a vampire; she rocks. Can't wait for #6 to come out this summer.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enchanting vampire series that keeps on entertaining January 18, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Trouble always seems to find Rayne McDonald. Even when she means to do good, things never quite work out as planned. This time is no different.

After learning the truth about their parents, Rayne and Sunny are hidden away in Switzerland at Riverdale Academy, a boarding school dedicated to developing the finest vampire slayers in the world.

If it wasn't ironic enough that she was a vampire and a slayer, now being stuck in a school of well-trained vampire hating students really takes the cake.

Having kept the truth about her vampire nature from her parents, Rayne is left with no choice but to give up her vegetarian vampire ways and get her next meal straight from the source. Specifically, one of Riverdale's elite Alpha slayers, Corbin Billingsworth.

And if things weren't complicated enough, Rayne, in a rash attempt to protect her sister from being forced into becoming a fairy princess takes matters into her own hands. Consequences be damned.

Without phones, computers or any means of escape will Rayne be able to control her hunger without revealing her secret? A secret that will surely get her staked in a "stake first ask questions later" environment. And with strange things happening in the Night School building will Rayne manage to stay under the radar, or will her curious nature once again land her in hot water?

***

Night School is yet another light, charming and humorous story in this series told from Rayne McDonald's perspective. This fifth installment in the Blood Coven series picks up right where Bad Blood left off and focuses on Rayne's adventures as she tries to cope with being a vampire trapped in a slayer school, all the while remaining hidden from the fairies who want to capture her sister and force Sunny to become their princess.

As in all the other books in the series, nothing goes off without a hitch and Rayne is once again forced to be the savior in a situation that was mostly caused by her actions.

Author Mari Mancusi has written another fun, delightful story for young adults and a guilty pleasure story for those not-so-young-adults. While there are some parts in this story that are fantastical and go way over the top, the author always manages to make these ideas work, through her character Rayne's sarcasm and disbelief.

Although there are a few loose ends, this does not leave you hanging...that is unless you read the sneak peek of the next book, which is included.
