Disappointed,
By
This review is from: Night Secrets: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
I was very disappointed with this book. After reading and enjoying "Night Fall", the first book in the "Night" T-FLAC/psi triology, I was really looking forward to this one. I liked the characters and thought the story had potential but it just didn't come together. Too many things were left hanging. I want to know why Lucas's powers kept "going out" (as Simon's did in "Night Fall"), why/how Sydney acted as a power boost, what was really going on in the warehouse, what was up with the semen samples, what is going on with the room service waiter, is Mason Knight somehow involved and what's the story behind "Christy"??? The book ended with only vague, partial or no answers to all these questions. It was only loosely tied into the first book with only brief mention of Simon's relationship to Lucas & Alex Stone who was introduced and set up as the main character in the next book. I'm sure, as another reviewer mentioned, that this is a ploy to get us to buy the next installment which is a hardback. I understand setting up the next book in a series, it's done all the time, but this one was done poorly with the first installment pretty much stand alone and this one totally NOT standing alone. I will read the next installment, "Night Shadow", if for no other reason then in hope of finding out the answers to all the unanswered questions from this book but I am very disappointed in Ms. Adair for doing this to her readers. I read all of the other T-Flac & T-Flac/psi books and although I did like some better then others I loved them all and considered Ms. Adair one of my must read authors. I hope that she can redeem herself with "Night Shadow" but I will wait and try to get it from the library before I spend my money on it this time.

Not worth the money,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Night Secrets: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
This is book 2 of a trilogy. The first two books are paperbacks and the third is a hardback. In order to get people to pay double the price for a hardback, the two paperbacks HAVE to be great so that people will want to find out how the trilogy ends. This book isn't great. It's not even close to being great. A lady gets a [..] job to write a first person account about cosmetic surgery and ends up with a T-FLAC psi agent who powers are on the fritz unless he holds on to her. Give me an Edge brother any day.
Save your money. I recommend the library if you really want to read the book. That's the only way I'll read the hardback.

Book 2 in the Night Trilogy,

This review is from: Night Secrets: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
This is book two, it's a stand-alone in some ways but you really do need to read the series in order, and the conclusion comes in book three, Night Shadow.
Sydney McBride is a writer who's career needs a hit book. She's writing the story of a luxury plastic surgery in Brazil. Lucas Fox is a wizard and T-Flac operative who come to the spa following a suspect and ends up stranded and Sydney lets him in hoping he's an even better story. Together they uncover a terrible secret and are falling in love along the way. I have read all the T-Flac books and love Cherry Adair's writing but the bad guy in this book was so bad, and the storyline so gruesome it should be noted that it's not for the squeamish. I would have liked a little 'less' detail. :-) Overall a good story and I'm looking forward to the conclusion!

Lucas and Sydney sizzle in Rio!,

This review is from: Night Secrets: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
Sydney McBride has actually gone under the knife to write a factual account in her new spa book about cosmetic surgery. Everything seems to be going fine until a naked man appears in her cabin. She agrees to let him pose as her boyfriend, hoping he'll trust her enough to tell her what is really going on at the spa.
Lucas Fox is an operative for the agency T-Flac in the psi division. He's a wizard whose powers are flickering. He has followed a Half wizard's trace, wanting to know what the man was up to. Lucas soon finds out that there is a whole lot more going on there than cosmetic surgery. He soon discovers that he and Sydney are right in the middle of a vast terrorist operation to sell biotoxins to other terrorists. He and Sydney make an incredible team, and it doesn't hurt that when he touches her, his powers are amplified. With the bad guys right behind them, will they escape? The action is pretty nonstop, and the passion is hawt! Take a ride on the wizard side! Highly recommended!

This review is from: Night Secrets (Audio CD)
This is my 2nd Cherry Adair novel and the 2nd in a trilogy. I bought the audio version of Night Secrets. At first I thought that this novel would not be as good as Night Fall, but I ended up liking the storyline of abducting people all over the world to harvest their body parts to use to sell to wealthy individuals that need them. Definitely a sick idea especially because when the body parts are harvested, the victoms are given a paralizing anesthetic so that they are aware of the whole procedure & feel the pain until they die!! Creepy! The rest of the story held my attention as well. The main characters, Sydney McBride and Lucas Fox are likable with a sexy romance budding between them. Defintely want to purchase the third book, Night Shadows.

I listened to the audio version of this book. For starters, Carrington MacDuffie does a great job as the reader and I like her work. I am new to Cherry Adair and bought all three in this trilogy. So far, from what I have gathered, they seem like stand alone stories and the characters are barely mentioned from book to book and I was disappointed in that. The idea of wizards and teleporting is all new to me but very enjoyable. I immediately liked the main characters, Sydney and Lucas. There is a nice mix of drama, suspense and humor, also a plus. The good guys are very good and the bad guys are very bad. Holy cow, were they bad. I felt, like there were some unanswered questions at the end but it was worth the listen. One thing, it does get graphic and was a little tough for me to listen to during my work commute. As I mentioned, the bad guys are really horrible.
I would recommend but not for the faint of heart or stomach.

This is the second book in a series and I have loved both books, can't wait for the third. I only wish it wasn't just a trilogy. There was suspense and romance. I liked both characters, a lot of times with books I don't like one of the characters. I thought is was a very good all around paranormal/suspense/romance book.

This review is from: Night Secrets: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second in the Night series of T-FLAC (Terrorist Force Logistical Assault Command) novels by Adair, following Night Fall.
Psi Operative Lucas Fox crashes from a bad teleportation experience onto the beach at an exclusive medical spa specializing in plastic surgery near Rio. Lucas, needless to day, is a wizard, with special skills that make him a perfect operative for T-FLAC, and he is tracing some terrorist Half Wizards who are involved in some very nasty business. Lying on the beach in the dark, trying to keep himself invisible, Fox is confused by the sputtering failure of his powers. He is able to gather enough power to escape the soldiers and helicopters searching for him, and teleport himself-naked-into the beachfront cottage of writer Sydney McBride. Her publisher has her writing a book on destination spas, and having been pushed by her publisher to get her breasts enhanced to make the book more realistic, she is recuperating. Lucas uses his powers of Empathic Perception to control Sydney and the soldiers a bit, so the soldiers searching the cottages are convinced that he is her boyfriend. He notices when he is in contact with Sydney that his powers seem enhanced, and he is forced to use her to search the facility for the nasty Half-wizard he is chasing, Escar. While Sydney is attracted to the handsome Lucas, she is also using him. She senses a huge book might come out of her assisting him and discovering exactly what is going on at the spa. As they work together, sparks fly as they get to know each other. Sydney discovers the advantages of being the lover of a wizard and the distinct disadvantages of being along on a T-FLAC operation. Fortunately Sydney isn't just a pretty face as her older brothers have taught to shoot and fight. The two uncover more plots than they ever expected. This Harry Potter with guns and steamy sex is for adults only, and is a spicy and savory addition to the T-FLAC series. The third book in the series is out soon, Night Shadow. Armchair Interviews says: Another in this series from a New York Times best selling author. |
