4.0 out of 5 stars reprint of a solid gothic romance
In 1859 English spinster Helena Trant is on vacation in Germany enjoying everything about the Black Forest as she reminisces about her bookselling father's vacation there and her mother's musing about woods. However, while on a picnic Helena gets separated from her companions. Later on the Night of the Seventh Moon, a mist engulfs and frightens her though she keeps...

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning: Not A Romance--
This was a VERY drawn-out account of all the many bad/sad things that happened to the main character throughout her life. The story solely centered on her and sadly she just wasn't that interesting. There were a few mentionings of unimpressive male characters at the very beginning and then again close to the end. I can't believe I stuck it out, but I did to the end and...

4.0 out of 5 stars reprint of a solid gothic romance, March 5, 2010
This review is from: On the Night of the Seventh Moon (Paperback)
In 1859 English spinster Helena Trant is on vacation in Germany enjoying everything about the Black Forest as she reminisces about her bookselling father's vacation there and her mother's musing about woods. However, while on a picnic Helena gets separated from her companions. Later on the Night of the Seventh Moon, a mist engulfs and frightens her though she keeps reminding herself that Loke the God of Mischief is mythology.

A horseman rescues her though she is not sure from what. His noble horse takes her to his shelter. There Siegfried and Helena begin to fall in love, but she also fears her mysterious rider as she does not understand the nightmare that engulfs her champion and now her.

This is a reprint of a solid gothic romance written by legendary Victoria Holt in the 1970s. The story line is classic gothic with a brooding hero, an innocent damsel in distress and a mysterious castle in the mists of the Black Forest. Although the narrow path of the story line is obvious with no spins occurring outside the sub-genre boundaries, sub-genre fans will enjoy Helena's student adventure in the euphoria and nightmare of love and life.

5.0 out of 5 stars On the NIght of the Seventh Moon, December 13, 2010

A wonderful author - Victoria Holt (also penned many wonderful works as Philippa Carr and Jean Plaidy) - is an author you can't get enough of. This romance takes the reader back in time, is historically correct and no other author can tell a story quite this way. I really hope to see more of this author's work available in Kindle format. Although this wonderful author died tragically several years ago, I do hope her books become available in Kindle format in the future for those of use who love these works so.

I've read most of Victoria Holt's books, but this has always been my favorite. It all seems so magical and perfect at first and then things just completely fall apart for our heroine. As I said, I have read most of Holt's books...started as a young teenager. I would love for more of her novels to become available in Kindle format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reading, November 14, 2011
This review is from: On the Night of the Seventh Moon (Paperback)
I love this book! The first time I read it was in high school, I needed a break from the 'required' reading books that I thought were just trash and I absolutely fell in love with Victoria Holt and her writing! I have re-read this book so many times I can't say how many. This is my favorite, I am finding it harder and harder to find good books that don't have a bunch of sexual graphic material and find myself returning more and more to her books, I appreciate what other Victoria Holt fans say about her books, it is a big help to me. Keep'em coming

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Holt, July 13, 2011
I loved this book when I read it at age 14 and I love it now at age 45!

Young, innocent heroine.

Darkly mysterious hero.

The scene in the hunting lodge gives me shivers to read even now- this is pure romantic seduction with no icky graphic details.

I am so grateful to have this in my Kindle collection.

Victoria Holt never fails to surprise the reader at every turn. The characters are substantial and the plots are imaginative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless books, January 26, 2011

I have been reading Victoria Holt's books for over 30 years. Also love her other books written as Philippa Carr. I have always loved this book. I have reread her books so many times I know most by heart. Reading her books are like visiting old friends. Sincerely hope that soon all of her books as Victoria Holt and as Philippa Carr will be available on e-books. "On the Night of the Seventh Moon" has always been one of favorites. It combines romance, mystery,

gothic and beautiful writing so well done you can picture every thing perfectly in your mind. If you have never read any of her novels, this is the perfect one to begin with.
