Probably their best....,

overall. Start to finish this was a strong effort by Foghat."Drivin' Wheel", a rockin version of "Take Me To the River" that would do Al Green proud, "Burnin' the Midnight Oil", "I'll Be Standing By" and the title track are all standouts here. I happened to see them in concert in support of this release in late '76 and was very impressed, not only by the band's high energy show but by the songs from this LP. Not a weak tune on it. Should be in the collection of any true Foghat fan.

I have owned this cd since it was released in 1990 on Rhino Records, But have recently bought it again for the previously unreleased tune "New Place To Call Home" if you haven't heard this song, its an outstanding tune similar to the song "Paradise Alley" from the album "Boogie Motel" I highly recommend this cd.

From the classic hit 'drivin wheel' which explodes out and frankly makes me want to race my car down a mountain listening to it. I actually did that once but no longer as I almost flew off a giant cliff doing it! To great songs like 'burning the midnight oil' this is a 70's metal band/slash blues rockers heavy pounding piece of musical heaven. The band would never be this heavy in content again although they continued to release some interesting music. They were still 'boogie monsters' here and that's a term that describes this one perfectly. There isn't a bad song on here if you love boogie rock that is clear and played by pros and sung by the late great dave p.

It should be noted that Foghat started out as Savoy Brown, Dave, Tony and Roger left to form their own band and recruited Rod Price on slide. Craig MacGregor joined on the Fool for the City tour on bass, this is the first album with him. I like this and Stone Blue best, but am very partial to Energized and Rock&Roll Outlaws as well, so if you like Foghat for Foghat and not just Slow Ride you will love this cd. This has what I feel is the best Take me to the River ever recorded by anyone, Driving Wheel and Don't Run Me Down(which I believe VanHalen stole for Poundcake) rock out hard, all great driving tunes too, especially Night Shift. The guitar work is killer, Foghat never got just due for the great musicianship they portrayed and continue to. This is a Foghat fans album and if you aren't one, it will make you one.The review about the song times and 45 version is wrong, I just bought this and they are all exactly as long as the LP. You probably ran into a Rhino album, I had many an issue with Rhino records releasing 45 versions of songs especially Slow Ride, this release is true to the album. This is the original, thought you should know, I bought it 1/10.

Great Album Made Even Better By Remastering,

This review is from: Night Shift (Audio CD)
This reissue of Foghat's NIGHT SHIFT, which was a great album to begin with, is made even better by warm, thick remastering and the inclusion of the previously unreleased "New Place To Call Home", which was listed on the original LP jacket but not included. This version rights that wrong. The singing, guitar playing, and rhythm work are all top-notch, and although FOOL FOR THE CITY and LIVE are slightly better, this album still tops most of what's called "rock" today.

Why I won't touch this one,
By
This review is from: Night Shift (MP3 Download)
Drivin' Wheel is the best song on Night Shift. It was easily my favorite track. It was originally longer than the 4:29 version you see most places. I haven't looked it up on my LP but I think the original version is 5:11. I think the 4:29 version was the 45rpm record that played in jukeboxes. I want the original. I am not disappointed that some kid, who probably didn't know the difference, included it on a Remastered release of all things. I am disappointed in the Foghat representative who must have signed off on it.
