An enjoyable and entertaining nonfiction read.
Lynsey Hickman
In his stories, Dr. Plaster reminds us that doctors have hearts, and that they can be just as vulnerable as the patients they care for.

I was sad when I finished it, (in 3 days), but will read it again.

For those who seek an understanding of the realities of the medical world, not just the sound bytes, this volume is a welcome addition to the medical literature. A must read for all physicians in training and the public in general, Dr. Plaster's stories will bring, in turn, laughs and tears and cheers. Medicine, like politics, is "local" and at the very tip of the spear is the patient and those who try to do their best for them. Kudos to Dr. Plaster...

Wonderful! a very enjoyable book to read. And even though it is written by a doctor about medicine, the cases are presented in such a way that any layman can understand them. Instructive and very readable, it is occasionally hilarious - we laughed out loud at some of the stories - and sometimes tragic. The book is written in 48 short stories which are candid, refreshingly humble and sincere. The portrayal of family life in several short sketches is touching and amusing. I encourage anyone who loves nonfiction biographies, anyone in medical practice, and anyone who has visited a doctor's office to read this book; I am sure you will like it.

While we see the ER portrayed in many ways on TV and movies rarely does it do justice to the real world. Night Shift does so and more. As a practicing ER physician I could see myself in so many of the stories told. That said you do not have to be a physician to read this book. It give a new meaning to life in the ER. A must read for medical and non medical ER "junkies"..

I've been a fan of Dr. Plaster's for over 15 years and have enjoyed his columns. As a health care provider, this book really hits home and takes a look at what we do daily and makes it entertaining. Everyone in healthcare can relate to these well written stories. People not in healthcare will get a little insight into the craziness of the ER and will enjoy reading this book. I definitely recommend reading these stories.

I knew Mark throughout junior high and high school. Our parents were friends. Seeing Mark at our 20 year high school reunion, Mark was instrumental in encouraging me to go back to school to become an R.N. I was so impressed by Mark's writing ability and especially his honesty, kindness, and caring in his book. It is written so anyone can understand it. Those of us in the medical profession can all relate to it. It has it's sad parts mixed in with lots of laughter. Mark has the ability to draw you in and make you feel as though you are there in the room with him seeing everything transpire. It was quite bold of Mark to put in what he was thinking at the time of these events. A wonderful book to read, I couldn't put it down. I was sad when I finished it, (in 3 days), but will read it again. Can't wait for your next book Mark!

As the child of an ED doc, I grew up with a dad who slept during the day, worked weird hours, taught us how to make a sling out of a dishcloth before we could tie our shoes, and splinted our Barbie's broken arms with matchsticks. We knew there was something different about his job compared to our friends' dads, but it wasn't until I was older and read Dr. Plaster's work that I started to understand what a "day at the office" meant in the ED. Dr. Plaster captures the moments that make up a shift in the ED- the good, bad, ridiculous, heartbreaking, heartwarming, frustrating and funny. He then transforms and magnifies those interactions into stories that grab the attention of anyone lucky enough to read them. Now that I'm the one sleeping during the day, working weird hours, and teaching my kids how to make those slings, I appreciate Dr. Plaster's writings even more. Thanks for a great read!!

This book is a little of everything. Stories that make you laugh, cry, gasp, blush...From one chapter to the next, the only thing I came to expect was that I didn't know what to expect.
