I bought this workbook when I bought the book and it hasn't actually been any help at all. It does have some pages to rip out and use for keeping track of sleep patterns but I did not use them, any paper you already have works just fine.

I was surprised to see anything but great reviews for this book. This is a wonderful guide for any parent whose child is having sleep problems. It claims to be a common sense method and it certainly is - when you're a sleepless parent you really want a sleep technique that works and that does not require a bunch of mental gymnastics. This workbook format is terrific for the busy (and tired!) parent, it's easy to use, even if you do not have the original book that this workbook is based on (Good Night Sleep Tight).

If you read my review of The Sleep Lady's Good Night Sleep Tight, you know that I absolutely love her technique. I was having some terrible trouble getting my girls to go to bed and sleep through the night and was in desperate need of some help. I followed her techniques and was able to consistently sleep until my alarm went off. That was unheard of in my home. I will be honest and admit that I didn't stick with it like I should have and I still have a terrible time getting my girls to bed, but the technique definitely deserves merit. This workbook is almost like a "cliff notes" version of Good Night Sleep Tight and is just as essential for a new mom. New moms are tired enough and it can be really difficult to find time to read anything, let alone a 400+ page book about sleeping. So, the condensed version is really a lifesaver. As a matter of fact, when I finished reading through it for my review, I passed it along to my pregnant friend who was thrilled to get it. This book is perfect for any mom with a kid under the age of 5. The Sleep Lady, Kim West, has techniques all younger aged kids and I would imagine that most of them are just as phenomenal as the two stages that I tried for my girls.

This book is great, it really helped us get our two year old to sleep through the night as well as got our newborn off on the right track. This book also gives great parenting tips, and encourages you to develop your own parenting philsophy. This is defenitly the book for you if you want to get you child to sleep through the night with fewer tears then the cry it out method.

I bought the three books, the "52 Tips", "Good Night, Sleep Tight Workbook..." and "Big Book". And after wasting my money and precious time reading ALL of them, I realized how she doesn't know what shes talking about, and her strategy is just a copy of one of Dr.Sears idea (but he recommends for older babies and calls it FAde Away).DONT WASTE A PENNY WITH THIS USELESS METHOD!!! Besides that, its definitely not good for breastfeeding babies and for bonding. A 6 month old child is not ready for her "shuffle"... My son, after a month I've tried it - with NO SUCCESS, now is getting back to normal... Poor thing...

Good resource for planning and carrying out a sleep coaching program,

The Good Night Sleep Tight Workbook is a nice book for parents who don't want to let their child "cry it out," but don't have any idea of where to begin. The first two chapters are a review of concepts from Kim West's first book, Good Night, Sleep Tight. Ms. West breaks down each month from newborn to age 2 1/2 -5 and gives tasks and goals that should be accomplished along with sample sleep schedules. The Sleep Lady Shuffle, from the Good Night, Sleep Tight book is reviewed in chapter three. This technique is the cornerstone of Ms. West's coaching plan. Basically, it is gradually moving the location of your chair away from the crib until you are out of the room, thus teaching your child to fall asleep on his own. Chapter seven is about creating your plan. There are several sample plans with specific times for waking up, feedings, naps, bath, and bed times. There are plans for babies who need feedings during the night, and older kids who do not. Then there is a section with blank spaces which the reader could fill in to create his/her own plan. These are thirteen-day plans (they could however, take longer). At the end of the book, there is a sleep log where you can record your progress. Finally, in chapter twelve, there is a list of resources containing bedtime stories, books with information on childcare, books for new siblings, bedtime music, websites related to sleep, and information on postpartum depression. This is all useful information. My children are older now, and sleeping through the night, but that certainly was not the case for the first two years of their lives. I did try the Sleep Shuffle technique when they were babies for about a month. I know that this technique does work well for a lot of people (I had friends who used it with excellent results), but it did not solve my children's sleep problems. I will not give this book less than five stars, just because the sleep shuffle technique did not work for me. It is well written, with easy-to-follow plans and suggestions. If you are a sleep-deprived parent trying to get your child on a good sleep schedule where you are not a crutch for helping him fall asleep, then read this book. -Sherry Ellis, author of That Baby Woke Me Up, AGAIN

I started reading this book when my baby was 5 weeks old wanting to do whatever I could as soon as possible to get my baby to sleep better and sleep more. The book is very informative. I like how sections are broken down according to age. My child is now 9 weeks old and the suggestions from the book that we have tried have worked. He is sleeping much better!

Bad for breastfeeding, bad for babies,

Dr. Sears and also Elizabeth Pantley have written much better books on the subject. West's advice is not evidenced-based and is harmful to breastfeeding and parent-child bonding.
