Night Stalker is Great!,

I have been a fan of Carol since I first read Night Passage over five years ago. Since then, I have been stalking bookstores looking for her work.Night Stalker is about a woman stalked and harassed in her home by an unknown assailant. He invades every aspect of her life and it is quite unnerving to read as it unfolds. She gets the police involved but they are unable to help much at first. She soon finds a possible ally in a police detective but he seems to have trouble with her credibility. It left me guessing as to the stalker's identity right to the end. Of course, all of the guesses I made were wrong and it was real fun to finally find out who the stalker was. Night Stalker is a fine mix of mystery, horror, and romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I do not usually read a novel in just three days but could hardly put it down despite my other obligations. A great read, I can't wait to start her second novel, Skin Deep. I highly recommend checking out Amazon and other book outlets and

as generic as the title,
By David Group (Buffalo, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Night Stalker (Paperback)
Night Stalker is just one of the zillion books revolving around a woman being harassed and attacked by a mysterious stranger. However, the victim is maddeningly passive and complacent about her own safety, to the point where you find yourself thinking "Check the locks on your doors!" "Call the police!" or "Carry a can of mace or a stun gun!" The identity of the stalker is interesting, but his actions and goals leave more questions than they answer.

Heart-shattering romantic suspense-Don't miss this one!,

This review is from: Night Stalker (Mass Market Paperback)
What is it like to be harassed and stalked, in your own house? In Carol Davis Luce's atmospheric, landmark suspense novel-precursor to the best of the romantic suspense genre-Alex Carlson has moved into her father's house to regroup from past problems and regenenerate her art career. The house is just what she needs; beautiful and secluded. But someone doesn't want her there. And that someone is playing for keeps. Soon Alex is brought face to face with the horrific lessons of her childhood, and the origination of the menace is much closer than she thinks. NIGHT STALKER kept me up until three in the morning. The writing just grabbed me and kept me turning pages, even though at some points I have to admit to being creeped out. This is the kind of book where you want all the lights in the house on, and try not to listen to the branch outside, scraping at the window...

Could have been so much better,

The main character, Alexandra, was so unlikeable and pathetic that it didn't matter how suspenseful the story-line was, I couldn't get past how much I hated her. She came across as stupid, whiny and childish. Several times throughout the story the reader found her wanting a man to soothe her frayed nerves or needing a man to come rushing in to save her. The only other women in the story include Alex's horny best friend who was constantly just telling Alex to hook up with any man who paid attention to her, her "witchy" neighbor and a "busty" cop. I question how this book could have been written by a woman. Alex didn't seem interested in self preservation, constantly making decisions to stay home alone rather than seek a safe place or delay having an alarm system installed despite the detective telling her to do so on several occasions.SPOILER ALERT: Strangely enough, in addition to the stalker, whose identity makes NO sense, Alexandra seems to attract creepy guys who want to rape her. Being a single woman, living alone, I'm not as much paranoid as I am aware and precautious, but had it been me in the story, the minute ONE guy tried to rape me I would have taken every precaution to prevent it from ever happening again. I certainly wouldn't have waited alone in my isolated house night after night for my stalker to get me.

Nigh Stalker,
By A Customer
This review is from: Night Stalker (Paperback)
Here's a fact... Night Stalker is, by far, one of the best writen of it's kind. The characters are real and focused. The plot twisted and unconventional. The language is simple, yet exact. I am an avid reader of books and have rarely found the time, let alone any interest in reading a book more than once. Perhaps that is why, having read this one nine times, I recomend this book to my friends. In sum, this first book of Carol Davis Luce, is exceptional!!!

NIGHT STALKER is a terrific pageturner that both men and women will enjoy. There is mystery, horror, suspense, and just the right amount of romance!Be sure to read Ms. Luce's other fine novels, which include NIGHT PREY, SKIN DEEP, and NIGHT GAMES.

So ...read the promo here on amazon....what trash. Mostly it was misleading. Well yes her name was Alexandra carlson....but her life had been together 3 years, no? She lived in the house 19 years...all through her 16 year marriage and then 3 years of divorce. Had lived in Reno all her life, in fact house was her family home...as for romance...not really. Sex... yes ,the dynamics weren't really romantic. But the mystery...now that was spot on. And it was a good one too. It was the mystery that made it almost a 4 for me. I have read better, the character developement for me was wanting. But for a page turner, and for the price it is worth the read.

I completely agree with David Group. I can't stand it when the victim is too stupid to see what is happening to them. SPOILER-- She had no clue that it could have something to do with her family history, even when the very first warning contained a key phrase from her haunted childhood !! REALLY? Then she continues on--REPEATEDLY-- putting herself in danger by insisting on going back to her home-- where she was attacked --ALONE-- without a weapon of any kind! The story was fine, but I get distracted by the fact that the main character might be a moron.

Entertaining, But Far-Fetched,

The book was interesting, but it was pretty far-fetched. The plot could've been much better than it turned out. I like realistic thrillers. I felt like some of the actions of the characters of this book (crazy or not) didn't make a lot of sense. It was good, but could've been better.
