Complete, all-you'll-every-need, November 16, 2004
This review is from: Night Stalking: A Twentieth Century Anniversary Kolchak Companion (Paperback)
This wonderful book is a complete, all-you'll-every-need look at the Kolchak movies (The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler), and the 1974-75 television show, Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Coming complete with interviews with many people involved, particularly the primary movers and shakers (of whom Darren McGavin was one), the book tells the story of the movies' inceptions and execution, and then moves into the inception, execution and finally demise of the television show.
I must say, though, what makes this book great is its analysis of each of the movies and television episodes. The movies are each given their own chapter, while the episodes are analyzed individually, with each including a cast list, opening narration (who can forget those?), a synopsis, an evaluation, and finally some memorable quotes.
So, does this sound like it has everything? Well, it should, because it does! If you are a fan of the Kolchak adventures, then you should acquire this book, you won't be disappointed. I give this book my highest recommendation.

Good coverage of an obscure show, August 11, 1999

I actually managed to pick up a copy of this a few years back. I have since picked up the 25th Anniversary Guide that Dawdiziak mentions. The 20th Guide is pretty good, although the coverage of the first two TV movies is a lot more extensive than of the series itself! (This is corrected to some degree in the 25th Guide.) There are a few errors in the cast lists, but generally the book is a good summing up and review of the original '74 series The Night Stalker and the two TV movies that spawned it. The 25th Guide I would give 5 stars for.
